My First Down Day While Sick :(

Last night I went to bed with the most ferocious headache. I took a shower to see if it would help and it did not. I took two tylenol and passed into the world of sleep only to wake up early this morning with intense stomach pains.

Convinced I might vomit, I took some Pepto Bismol. (I have no idea how many calories are in this.) Then rolled around in misery for some time before finally falling back asleep.

I slept in until 1pm this afternoon. I never do this on a work day. Never.

My stomach is still in turmoil and I can't quite tell if it is nausea or hunger, so I'm trying to keep to my DD but treat myself a little more gently. No bulletproof coffee today--I made a protein shake.

If this doesn't work and, at some point, I decide I need toast or whatever it is people are supposed to put in their bellies when they're sick, this DD might be a bust. But we'll see how it goes.

Best thing to put in your stomach when sick is nothing I'm afraid. Body can think about repair not food digestion. Hope you feel better soon...you will...

Steph I'd suggest you only eat if you actually feel hungry. Our bodies tend to want to fast when they're fighting a bug. Do drink plent though.
I hope you soon feel much better!

Chicken stock might help. Or even the light progresso chicken soups?

Yep... can't go wrong with clear liquids (especially if you are puking or, um, ya know...) so that you remain hydrated.

I had something similar the other night, but it might have been self induced. Apparently, LC steak sauce DOES have an expiry date... In 2006. don't ask.

and according to the mysterious "internet" Pepto has no calories-- it's a suspension with no oil, sugar, protein, etc.

However-- since it will "stop you up", you need more liquid, and might have a bit of constipation after the "main event" is over... just keep the fluids coming, and you'll be ok.

sweetie! Take care of yourself!

Just a word of caution for anyone who happens to read this thread: One should NOT lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking many medications, including aspirin and acetaminophen/paracetamol. Lying down can slow down or prevent the medication from reaching the stomach & dissolving; it may remain in the esophagus and cause irritation, such as heartburn.

Steph, IDK how long you waited before going to bed, but if you think that might be the problem & are still experiencing pain, I would take some aloe vera juice and/or plain gelatin (no artificial sweeteners, so maybe add to broth); both are healing to the esophagus and stomach lining.

(PS: It may take daily doses of aloe &/or gelatin for several weeks to heal severe damage, ulcers, etc.)

I went right to bed afterwards. My stomach has been cramping and heaving all day. Doesn't feel like heartburn. Feels like the stomach flu. But one never knows. Maybe it was the meds. I'm going to have soup tonight.

Hope you are feeling better! That's exactly how I was yesterday afternoon and night. Yesyerday was my DD so the whole day totalled 70 calories as I felt too sick to consider anything but water by 3pm. I went to bed before 7:30pm. I woke up feeling much better today so I hope you will wake up well in the morning!

Good tip PJ! I've learned it the hard way, when advil or whatever doesnt' go down right and then things are just worse b/c you are dealing with that AND whatever made you take the meds in the first place

Steph- -how you feeling?

I have not had a stomach flu in a long time, but the memory lingers. I hope this was a less than 24 hour bug and you got some good rest last night. Eat whatever feels right and stay hydrated!

I'm feeling a little better today but my stomach is still weird. Stabbing pains this morning oh joy.
We will see how it reacts to an up day! Thanks for asking.

I'm glad you feel better! Maybe it was something you ate on your UD? My stomach can be super sensitive at times...

Hope you'll feel better today, Steph. Listen to your body when you're sick, as it will prioritize for you and fight the illness above all else anyway. Everything else can wait until you get well.
