I just realized in the last couple of weeks these are the "I must have them now" items that I've actually gone specifically to the grocery store to purchase:
Grapefruit Almonds Apples and bananas (same trip) Strawberries (to be fair, I sent DH for these last night) Who have I become? This isn't me! Of course there was nothing remotely healthy about today's lunch, but I still enjoyed the heck out of it. ![]() |

I live in the same country, I the same province, in fact. Did it get me an invite for Thanksgiving? No, it did not. Just saying.

The freedom is amazing. I've only been doing this a bit over 2 months and my freezer is full of the treats I've made myself for both up days and down days.
Last Saturday, on an up day, we attended a beer dinner with app'ys galore, tortilla soup with lime creme fraiche, ribs, cheddar taters, corn and apple pie. Most of the ribs and pie came home with us (the chef walked thru the dining room assuring everyone he'd ordered extra take-home boxes for the evening ). Then the next day we headed out for 3 days with friends and that was lots of eating and wine. I weighed in at just over a pound up. I think part of that was the knowledge that I can eat what's there, yet I can get by on less than 500 cals w/o feeling hungry. So I was able to be reasonably sensible yet not deprive myself at all. In the past I'd have surely overdone and come back 5 pounds heavier and hating myself. I have more of a long-haul mentality on this WOE than on any other. I'm not looking for instant results and the ups and downs on the scale don't worry me. During my 3-day visit my friend and I discussed making "Our Lady of (Drown Your) Sorrows Cake with Heavenly Frosting" from one of Adriana Trigiani's books. I'll probably make half a recipe as mini-muffins and skip the frosting, but know that I can have one or two or even three on an up day. It is definitely very freeing.

![]() I don't know why, K, but until recently (like, this week...) I thought you lived in Vancouver! I promise-- next big meal, you are on the list. We know Cindy of course will invite herself If anyone else wants in, let me know-- I have a guest room, can borrow an air mattress, and our couch is VERY comfortable and sleeps 2. Zib-- I don't know who Adriana Trigani is, b/c I've been so deep in LC, I've got almost no new cookbooks in the last 8yrs unless they were Dana Carpender or George whatshisname. Is there any way you can PM me that recipe? You also inspired me to go back to the cookbooks I do have, specifically the Silver Palate ones from those 2 catering ladies... THIS WHOLE BIG WORLD OF FOOD IS BACK AND I'M NOW OFFICIALLY FREAKING OUT ![]()

I'm ROFLing right now, because I just got zinged with it about 5 minutes ago. I was on FB and a friend was posting about crockpot recipes (we just got hit with fall weather yesterday). And it just hit me that, for the first time in YEARS I can consider ANY CROCKPOT RECIPE I WANT. I don't know why that made a difference. It's just that I've spent so long digging for either WW or lowcarb crockpot recipes that I was just stunned (and I was rarely happy with any of them). Dammit, I'm going to go make something with cream of mushroom soup RIGHT NOW.

A few months before I started JUDDD I donated a bunch of 60's and 70's cookbooks I had carried around (and sometimes read like novels) for oh so many years. There are few things I regret doing ... wish I could take back ... but when I think of how close I came to being able to cook those meals again
![]() Oh well, off to search for reasonably priced vintage cookbooks ... Zib, it sounds like you and JUDDD were made for each other! |
