Cotton mouth
I've been on Juddd for two months. From the beginning, I've had a cotton mouth. It's not from lack of water or diet soda. It's something to do with the WOE. Anyone have any suggestions?

I haven't heard of anyone experiencing cotton mouth from JUDDD. Could you be lacking a vitamin or mineral maybe? My first suggestion would be hydration, but it seems like you've got that covered.

Yes, electrolyte imbalance often manifests as cotton mouth or excessive thirst. I've also never had cotton mouth from JUDDD. Everyone here eats differently on JUDDD though, so it's hard to say what might be causing yours? Are the type of foods you're eating now in JUDDD different from what you were eating before?

My diet consisted of very little protein up until four months ago. I had the mindset of calorie/fat counting previously. I guess you could say that my protein and fat intake easily quadrupled a short time before the JUDDD.
I now realize how important protein is. I work at getting in 100 grams of protein on my up days, supplementing with a protein drink(s) when need be. So the protein is really the main difference. Now my diet is much more typical, rather than the majority being carbs. I am wondering about what vitamin I'm missing, hoping that I'm not the only one with this problem. Could you please get tested to confirm that you don't have diabetes? This is one of the most common presenting symptoms. As your body tries to deal with the high blood sugars it dehydrates you like that. I had that before I was diagnosed. It was really bad at night. I would drink glasses of water in the middle of the night and still feel a cotton mouth. this is not normal. you really need to have it checked out.
I suspect it's just cooincidence that you happened to be doing JUDDD when it happened. Good luck! |

I would 2nd getting a blood glucose test. I use to be painfully thirsty when my sugar was out of control. I too, have PCOD and diabetes/ insulin resistance is very common when you have this. They can actually both be treated with the same medication in some cases. Please see your doctor.

I have a cottony mouth, metallic mouth from time to time, BUT I do a combo of low carb and Juddd. My funky mouth is a common problem with ketosis.

I don't have diabetes. I have a friend who does, and a couple of months ago, for grins, she checked my blood sugar. It was normal, no where near high.
I would say that it is a metallic taste, too. I am eating moderate carbs, with a lot of protein. I'm wondering if it's something to do with having so much protein. I'm going to experiment and cut down on that, and see what happens. btw, I have plenty of saliva. It's my lips and tongue that just feel cottony, even while I'm drinking water. It feels something like it does when you burn your tongue, if that makes sense. Last edited by jenericstewart; 10-12-2012 at 04:49 PM.. |

Do you take any meds for sinus or allergies? Any antihistamines or sudaphedrine?

And then...I did get diagnosed with diabetes! ![]() The thirst is much better now that I've been on medication and low-carbing for a while. Quote:
You can ask your doc for an A1c test or even get a home test at Walmart, on Amazon, etc, if that's more convenient. Not scolding you or anything, and I understand that nobody wants to get that diagnoses, but if you do have diabetes, it's best to find out as soon as possible so you can start taking care of it. ![]() Also, I hope you won't get annoyed about all this diabetes talk. If it turns out your dry mouth has a different cause, this thread still might help someone else some day.

Both my parents had/have hypothyroidism. I've been tested countless times, so I'm thinking that might be the problem. Haven't been tested for that problem in 25 years. Diabetes doesn't run in my family anywhere, though I realize I could have it anyway, especially with PCOS. I don't have to urinate during the night or frequently, other than following my many drink fests. I would think, though, that by eating better (more proteins, far FAR fewer carbs) that this symptom wouldn't suddenly crop up. ![]() Thanks everyone! |
