Cooking for my guys!

Can any of you tell me how you deal with the "hunger" monster while cooking normal meals on your DD's? When I first started JUDDD, it' didn't seem to bother me. But, on my last DD(today is one, too), I was starving while I cooked! I almost went into another room while my DH & son ate. I usually sit at the table with them & have a salad or other low calorie food. My DH thought I was angry. I certainly didn't mean to seem that way. Will this pass the further I go with JUDDD. Or am I just whining for nothing?! Any of you Pro's have some suggestions for me?

I lost 7 pounds early into my JUDDD journey; but, weight loss has slowed to a crawl. However, my clothes are fitting loser! I'm happy with that!

Shari

I’ve always wanted to be normal, but lately I’ve come to suspect that this is it.

What we do is prepare large meals on Up days and then on DD's I serve my kids leftovers.

Why didn't I think of that?!? Thanks! I can start that today! I made them taco salads on my last DD. I have meat left over from that. So, chopping up veggies is no big deal!

Thanks,
Shari

Luckily my husband JUDDD's with me so we don't cook a big dinner every other day but basically I do leftovers for the 3 kids or something really simple on DD's like sandwiches where I can just set out bread, meat, cheese, etc and leave the room. It doesn't really bother me anymore most DD's to cook (it used to be horrible and does get easier with time) but the not having to cook much on DD's just adds to the ease of it all.

Another secret I have is I usually eat the brunt of my calories around 4 oclock so if I do have to make dinner, I'm not hungry and it doesn't bother me as much.

Brilliant, Zipp!

Shari, my weight loss has followed the same pattern that you describe. The first month, I lost over 7 pounds, this month (the second month), only 1 pound so far. My clothes are fitting loose, and I think I see other signs of less belly fat. Gonna keep it up for now and see what the next month brings.

Thank you, Elise! I'm scared to eat most of my calories so early in the day, since I'm a huge night eater! But, I may try it to see!

Thanks, Luv, for sharing your journey with me! Sounds like we're in the same boat......which is a pretty good boat to be in, huh?

I enjoy cooking on DD's because I anticipate eating whatever it is on the next UD... maybe you should just be sure to save yourself some leftovers. :-)

I'm not currently JUDDDing, but I have to do low-carb due to diabetes, and my son's a vegetarian...so he eats a lot of stuff I don't, and I cook for him almost every day.

I was doing this for a different reason, but found it really kills my appetite--I drink a glass of water with about 1/4 tsp of baking soda, right before I start cooking, or 10-15 minutes before if I remember.

Another thing--if I find myself thinking, "Oh, I wish I could have some of this", I purposely pause, smile, push that thought out and replace it with, "this smells so good!" and savor the aroma...take in big, big, sniffs!

Our sense of smell is more complex than our sense of taste. Sometimes I truly enjoy smelling the food more than eating it.

I read about the sniffing in The Shangri-La Diet; IIRC, the author recommends taking at least 3 big "smells". He says the sense of smell helps us feel more satiated....the molecules going up your nose and into your brain or something.

I think this is quite likely...I remember when my grandma and mom had been cooking a lot, they'd sit down with about 1/4 cup of food on their plate and say, "I've been smelling food all day and I'm just not hungry." It always sounded silly to me! But I found the same thing happened when I was a professional cook!

Thanks, Jenny!! I remember when I was younger feeling the same way after a lot of cooking! That was when I was skinny! I've been cooking since I was 9. My mother grew up on a farm, so southern farm cooking was all I knew! I don't know that I can ever go back to feeling like I can't eat........ but, I can give the smelling a try. Thanks for your thoughts!
