I've never tried that. How do you even do it, like what do you eat? Everything I can think of with protein also has some (even if a small amount) of fat or carb. I'm thinking real food, but you may have some purely protein products to help you. Just curious, and will be curious to hear your results.

Yes and when I do I always have good results. A good choice for me is tilapia fillets. I buy them frozen. You can put one or two in a Zip-n-Steam bag, toss it in the microwave for 2 minutes and it's ready. One fillet is 80 calories and 20 grams of protein.

I also go for hard boiled eggs and/or egg whites. Oh, and fat free, plain Greek yogurt with Truvia.

This week I had filet mignon at a restaurant the other night. Last night when I got home I took one out of the freezer, thawed it and grilled it on the George Foreman grill. I did have it with cooked spinach.

Today it still sounds good so I might just take another one out of the freezer and have it for dinner! Protein works wonders for me.

BTW: anyone who has not tried Zip-n-Steam bags.....YOU SHOULD! They are awesome.

And, right on each bag is a long list of foods and how long to cook them in the microwave. They make the best "baked" potatoes I've ever eaten. So moist. Same with corn on the cob. They even have a website with terrific recipes that take only minutes. (One of my favorites is a western omelet. You just throw in the eggs, cheese and veggies and whatever else, like ham and then squeeze it to pop the egg yolks. Then toss in microwave. It comes out soooooo good!)

I haven't; but, I'm entertaining the idea. I think my weight may have stalled because I went from LC'ing to JUDDD. My body doesn't do well with carbs. You'd think I'd know that by now! I'd love to know what others have experienced doing LC on JUDDD. How do you keep your calories low enough on a DD?

I lost over 100 lbs in 2 years on JUDDD eating very low carb, mainly protein. My DDs were almost exclusively protein with egg-white 'omeletes' made in the microwave and tuna mixed with no fat mayo. I sometimes ate chicken breast instead of tuna. I always had no more than 10g of carbs (often fewer) and low to no fat.

I also ate LC on UDs because I am extremely carb sensitive.

I only came to JUDDD because being post-menopausal and hypothyroid, I have to eat at such a low caloric level to lose that it was too frustrating to do it on a daily basis. Caloric cycling was my salvation--and I still practice it to some extent. I've been maintaining for close to 2 years.

What works for me is eating as little as possible during the early part of the day and then vegetables and more vegetables for lots of LC options. I do:

salad mix with fat free or 30 calorie italian dressing

sliced cucumber with hummus or light sour cream mixed with salt, pepper, seasonings, and dried onion for some impromptu dip

a lettuce wrapped sandwich with turkey slices, pickle, onion, whatever

a piece of laughing cow cheese on a fiber cracker

steamed greenbeans

shirataki noodles with pad tai seasonings (I don't need this as much as I used to)

and lots more I can't think of now. I just pick one or 2 of the above and have essentially a late lunch and dinner with them and stay pretty full. Also fruit doesn't seem to bother me anymore so I occasionally do that as well.

I find that if I eat mostly vegetables (which never made anybody fat even on low carb) paired with just a little protein I lose weight rapidly and am very rarely hungry. Its when I eat too much processed food and white carbs that I get in trouble although JUDDD has made it possible for me to have some carbs without gaining weight.

I quickly put together a list of foods to eat for today on an hourly basis. It will give me 3 carbs total(after subtracting) fiber, 27g. fat & 29g protein. I know I need to work on fat grams. I'll just see how this turns out........

If this doesn't work for me with the much lower carbs, then, I can give your LC veggie day a try. At this point, I'm willing to try almost anything!

Right now, because I damaged a nerve in my back, I have to eat something every few hours or the med they have me on will, apparently rip my tummy out and stomp on it.

Oh, I miss my good old DDs with nothing until dinner!

I tried protein only. But my body seems to require some carbs (in the form of veggies). Just protein, or protein and fat, triggers hunger in me.

I know it works very well for many people.

GOOD experiment!!!

Thanks, Nancy, for your input! I've never done these types of experimenting with my diet before. Maybe I need to, just to find out what works for my body & what doesn't. All I DO know is that many carbs make me eat like a horse!!

Nancy, I was concerned about being really hungry all day. But, this worked beautifully for me!! The Whoosh Fairy came to see me & took 3.6lbs with her!! So, I know what to do for DD's. I may not always be able to eat hourly; but, I will when I can. My DH called a little while ago & asked, "Is this your UD or DD?" He wanted to know if I wanted to go out to eat. I told him it was my UD and then I said absolutely NOT!! I don't want to take a chance on gaining right now. He understood! He even congratulated me!(I hadn't see him before he left for work). He's being really, really supportive of me!

So, if you think you can do this, I recommend it! Thank you iamMeekness for asking this question!

Shari

Shari! 3.6 pounds!?! Wow, talk about a successful experiment!

I truly, truly believe one of the greatest advantages JUDDD has over so many other WOEs is, it allows - even encourages - us to experiment with different eating patterns and foods. Said another way, JUDDD encourages self-knowledge. And, so far for me, self-knowledge = for the first time ever maintenance is both a pleasure and nbd. All of my experimenting during weight loss leaves me truly knowing how to maintain. I don't have any worries that my weight is going to creep up and out of control again.

Kristin, bless you! I need all the good thoughts I can get - I can barely walk and we are packing house, set to sell house #2 near Atlanta in two weeks.

I have done many practically zero carb DDs. They're usually higher in fat than protein though. It works well at times, and the lack of carbs really helps to suppress hunger for me.

I have not tried it, and don't plan to. In my case, it's mainly because my favorite proteins are generally higher fat and therefore higher calorie.

Thank you, Nancy! Sounds like you may be over-doing with your back! I've had a spinal fusion, so I do understand the pain. I have a nerve that runs from my fusion that was aggravated from shingles about 12 years ago, that gives me fits at times. I hope you get some relief soon!

I know myself well enough to know that carbs will creep in eventually! But, for now, I'm motivated to keep them really low. And you are so right about the hunger suppression of lower carbs with more fat & protein.

The foods I ate yesterday weren't all my favorite; but, I liked them well enough for one day! I'm making a list of foods that I can have for DD's that I can choose from at any time during DD's. Some may have more fat than protein or vise versa. I guess I'll learn what works for me as I go! And there may be times that I eat 2 items & wait 2 hours to eat. Who knows? I may fall on my face; but, oh well, I've done that before! All that's important is that I get back up and keep going.

Yes, most of my DD are protein only. I start with a large breakfast of 60 gr of protein (lamb, turkey or salmon). 80% of my calories come from breakfast and this keeps me full all day. In the afternoon I have some HB egg whites.

My best DD are pretty high protein. If I start with two hb eggs and my coffee, I am not hungry for hours and hours. If I don't eat in the morning, many times I'm not hungry really, but I get a roaring headache about 2 pm that will not go away even after I eat. To avoid the headache, I eat in the morning. Seems to help the low cortisol issue in the morning also, and then I usually sleep better at night that way.

Thank you, Shari. I have no doubt I am over doing things just now (expect to put about 2000 miles on the car in the week or two). This is . But I am the most intense and driven type B person you will ever encounter

Experiment! Experiment! Experiment! Just don't let the calories creep up too high or slip down too low. I had several stalls when I let calories slip. But, overall, I know a lot more than I did about how my body works and what it needs. And I am wearing sizes 6 - 8!!!

Good grief, Nancy!! 2000 miles?!? Shoot me now! But, I understand about the B personality! I can't remember the last time I just sat & watched a movie or tv show! Oh, I watch them, but I've got to be doing something else at the same time! It may be crochet, computer, sewing, etc.

Today I calculated my calories to reflect the 11 pounds I've lost since starting JUDDD. So, now my UD is 1684 versus 1750 & DD will pretty much stay the same. Do you think 3 weeks into JUDDD is too soon to do that?

Since I tend to be a late day/evening snacker, I try not to eat a lot of calories in the morning. And the protein w/some fat during the day really helps me feel satisfied. Then, I don't feel the need for a "pig out" late in the day!

Hey Shari, when you need to recalculate calories really depends on your individual metabolism.

My rule of thumb is 'recalculate after stalling - and verify it is a real stall'.

From 168 to about 138 I ate an average of 500 DD/cals and around 1500 UD cals. THEN, at 138, I hit a real stall. I did have to drop DD cals to an average of 400 then...which was nbd by that time.

Giggle, averaging DD calories, I never ate as low as the website said! Oh, some DDs were very low because I was not hungry. But, on average, I always ate about 100 cals more than the website indicated. But then - like you, fellow never-sits-still - I think my internal engine revs pretty high most of the time.

YOU do what feels best to you. But frankly, if you are losing consistently I would not worry about adjusting calories yet.
