WOE: Carbohydrate Addicts Diet/JUDDD/no sugar
Attn: Insomniacs! This worked for me.

Hi, everyone who can't sleep!

I've been struggling with insomnia (even more than usual) since I started JUDDD, and especially on DDs. After a 500 calorie DD, I couldn't sleep at all, I kept waking up every 2 hours and couldn't get back to sleep.

I've been reading through some very old threads, and it seems to be a common problem with our WOE.

So I tried a solution that some people were swearing by: Theanine serene with relora. It didn't work...yet. Keep reading.

Then, in continuing to read some of those old threads (insomnia means you have plenty of time to read old threads ) I saw that I'd been taking it wrong!! You have to take it every day, or sort of "build up a blood level" of it for the stuff to work.

It doesn't say this on the label. I wouldn't have known this if it wasn't for reading a little JUDDD history, so thank you very much for the people who posted this originally, and sorry I can't link to it (no time to look) but it's here.

So for the last three nights, I've been taking two of the pills spaced out during the day, and for the past three nights, I've been sleeping 6-7 hours straight. Then waking up for a few minutes and going right back to sleep.

Last night I slept 10 hours. As I said on another thread, I haven't slept through the night since my son was born 8.5 years ago - I forgot what that was like. It's really good, btw.

Hope this helps somebody else who was struggling like I was. Sweet dreams, JUDDD buds!!

Lynne

So happy for you, Lynne. I guess you have to be sure you give something a good try before you decide if it has helped. Sleeping through a whole night... ... wow. I would probably need to be on a vacation and away from my family and family pets!

Where did you purchase this? And what amount are you taking? DH gets up several times a night ( you know - the men's thing as they age !! ) and I'm hoping it may help him get back to sleep.

I got it at the local health food store. It's made by Source Naturals. And I'm taking 2 pills a day.

Tru dat!!!

Glad you've found something that helps!!!

Just want to mention that it's Sunday who recommended it...repeatedly...in several threads!!! I hope she'll pop in & see this; she might be a good person to direct any questions to, as she started using it at least a couple months ago (IIRC).

Three cheers for Sunday! And Theanine Serene!

I have real trouble falling asleep, often going to bed at midnight or so and not falling asleep until 4 or 5am. Do you think this would help with that, or is it just for if you wake up mid-slumber?

Oh, it was Sunday who posted about Theanine Serene! Thank you, then, Sunday - you saved me!!

Jakelilydad, I don't know about this one. I've heard that melatonin works pretty well for falling asleep.

LOL! PJ! I do try to only spread the good info around.

Theanine Serene was so amazing for my boy that I knew it would work for others as well. He is aceing his Petroleum Geology courses and sleeping like he did before serving in Afghanistan. He had some serious sleep issues and I was becoming concerned that it was affecting him in daily life. He is only 30 and pretty much healthy in every way, except that he has allergies and insomnia. He called me desperate for relief and so I began the research quest for something to help. I read so many reviews on Theanine and the one that kept coming back to me is the one who suffered with panic/anxiety disorder and terrible insomnia. He said that he was able to completely wean himself of all xanax medications simply by taking 2 TS per day.

I am guilty of forgetting to take mine regularly, but my son is taking his every single day 2x per day and sleeping just as easily as before his insomnia.

Lynne, I am happy to know it helped you. I love that it doesn't make you drowsy either! I never took melatonin, but it is important to me that I am alert on my job, so I knew that if TS made me even the slightest sleepy during daytime, I wouldn't continue to take it.

In my life it doesn't matter, but YMMV. I take it during the day.

My co-workers told me this years and years ago, and I always thought they were crazy, lol. They said if you eat lettuce, i.e., salad for lunch, you would be sleepy in the afternoon. I just couldn't imagine that lettuce could make you sleepy! So, it's true then?

Maybe....?

"It is said that the effect of eating too much lettuce is 'soporific.'

I have never felt sleepy after eating lettuces; but then I am not a rabbit.

They certainly had a very soporific effect upon the Flopsy Bunnies!"

--Beatrix Potter

I remember being rather awed by the word "soporific", back around when I was in kindergarten & reading these books! Maybe it got me started on my love of big words!

If you want a trip down Memory Lane:
The Project Gutenberg eBook of The Tale Of Flopsy Bunnies, by Beatrix Potter.
