DD experiment and sleep on JUDDD

I'm experimenting today! I've been having hungrier-than-average DDs lately so I'm trying:
-breakfast (which I don't usually have on DDs) of 2 pieces bacon for 53 calories
-my first bulletproof coffee with 1 tsp. unsalted butter and 1 pack splenda (don't have any coconut oil).

The bacon is to see if I sleep better on a DD night by starting the day with a bit of protein/fat (idea from piratejenny!).

The bulletproof coffee is to see what happens to my appetite level (hopefully the bacon doesn't interfere with the effect). I'm drinking it right now and enjoying it.

Sleep on JUDDD: Pros and cons?
Before JUDDD, I had no problem falling asleep, but I had problems waking up! I had to have two alarms, because I'd sleep through it so often. I also took naps frequently.

On JUDDD, I wake up easily, even on weekends! Sometimes earlier than I want to! I only take naps now when I've been short on sleep (my fault, not insomnia). I think this is more about JUDDD than the weight I've lost, because I didn't see this benefit when I was this weight before.

DD nights: Sometimes, on DD nights only, I have a hard time falling asleep. I also wake up to go to the bathroom at least twice (not typical for me). So I'll see if the bacon helps, maybe throw a little exercise in today?

I'm interested that so many people have noticed changes in sleep patterns, either sleeping better (yay!) or having insomnia (boo). I checked out the circadian rhythm reset thread, but don't have patience to try to get the practical application from the studies today ... anyone want to give me the down low summary?

I'll report back on how the bacon/bulletproof combo worked out ...

I've become really irregular about sleeping - when I have the choice to be able to do so, I stay up late on UD's and go to sleep early on DD's. And I tend to find it difficult to wake up on UD's because the DD's usually leave me feeling weak (I am not one of those who is energized by DD's). I think sleeping irregularly like this isn't really a good idea though because I feel tired a lot.

Hope you enjoy the bulletproof coffee!

Results:
- sleep after protein in the am - great!

- hunger after bulletproof coffee (and bacon) - above average. drat. could be the bacon. could be that i'm just going through a DD hungry phase! Some DDs are so easy . . . . others I just try to make it through by thinking about what I can eat the NEXT day.

You omitted the coconut oil (which appears to be important b/c of the MCTs) and added protein. That is changing the equation. The ONLY point of Bulletproof coffee, hypothetically, is to continue the fasting state with fat. Fat does not register as something that should break it. Protein and carbs may.

But as I've mentioned a few times in the bulletproof coffee threads, it OFTEN gets me through the day with a much decreased appetite. It does not ALWAYS do so.

If you consider doing it again, get the coconut oil and/or use 2 tsp of butter. I'm not sure I've ever gone lower than that.

I've definitely been having insomnia problems starting around week 11 of JUDDD. I think this may be related to the study of fasting female mice who become smarter and sleep less. I'm not sure if I'm any smarter, but...

Yeah, I knew I was combining two experiments in one which is very unscientific of me I don't have any coconut oil yet, but I will pick some up one of these days!

can I make this great sounding coffee without a blender? I do have a whip, you know the kind one uses to make gravy!

That might just work Leonak.

I didn't want to have to wash my blender all the time, and don't have a real immersion blender. What I do have is called an Aerolatte that I got from Bed Bath and Beyond. It's a tiny little battery operated whisk you use to whip up foam for lattes. I just put the oil and butter and sweetener in with the coffee and whip it up for about a minute. works great.

DD experiment, day 2:
bulletproof coffee with TWO tsp. unsalted butter (still no coconut oil in the house). Skip the bacon this time

One of the reasons I've been resistant to try the BPC is because I didn't want to have to mess with the blender/bullet. I forgot I have an Aerolatte too, which I've never used. Now where did I put it??

Results of bulletproof coffee with 2 tsp butter, NO bacon ...
good! only mild hunger until dinner. (I didn't intend to skip lunch, but I forgot it and the cafe was closed!) Also noticed I was energetic and very alert. I also slept well. So early, highly unscientific results indicate breakfast protein may not be a sleep factor for me, but may increase hunger. possibly
Tomorrow's experiment: Stephdray's recipe: 1 tsp coconut oil (I got some today!) and 1 tsp butter.

AND, Steph, GREAT new avatar! What a lovely photo.

Bulletproof coffee down day 3 experiment (coffee + 1tsp butter + 1 tsp. coconut oil).
(I also had a couple other cups of coffee as I am a 2-3 mug/day girl).

Results: Didn't need to eat until 4:30, NO hunger, but I had a mild headache in the late afternoon. Felt exceptionally alert and sharp today, even though I only got 6 hours sleep last night.
Hmmmmmm very interesting.
