Tips for DD?? I messed up!
Yesterday was a DD and I did great until about 8pm...it started with a couple saltine crackers and I went haywire. I ate probably 600-700 cals of junk after that! I feel awful today...mentally and physically. Nights have always been the hardest time for me (binge time). Anyone have any tips that might help make it a little easier? I believe this can work.

First off, don't beat yourself up. There is a learning curve here. We are learning what certain foods do to our bodies. Some cause cravings and trigger that urge to fill up on junk. Look at your day. What kinds of foods did you spend your calories on? Possibly what you chose is not what keeps your body satiated. For me, I need lots of lean protein. It kills my hunger and cravings. Yesterday was a DD for me and with all the talk about bullet proof coffee, I decided to try something like it that would be refreshing but have more protein than fat. I put crushed ice, a cup of cold leftover coffee, a scoop (20 grams of protein; 90 calories; 2 grams carbs) into a blender with a teaspoon of gluc powder and a teaspoon of EV coconut oil. That's what I had in the afternoon. For me, if I eat anything early in the day I just wake up the hunger monster. That was sooooooo good, refreshing and satisfying that it lasted me the rest of the day. I was not even hungry for dinner but really have been trying to up my protein so I had some fat free plain Greek yogurt stirred into some ground turkey (tastes a little like stroganoff to me). The other thing to remember is that sirtuin enzymes are your friend. It takes a while, some suggest a full 2 weeks of rotations, for it to be fully operational in your system. Call it a high DD for yesterday. Drink lots and lots of water today to flush out the sodium and carbs. Try to analyze what kills your hunger. For some it's more fat; for some lots of volume from non-starchy veggies; for others like me, protein. You may have to experiment with this but you will figure it out. Once you do, plan and automate your DDs. If you do have cravings in the evening, have something ready whether it's a big salad with EVOO and ACV for dressing or a cup or 2 of Greek yogurt which is packed with protein (and actually helps me sleep really good). Planning is key. Hang in there! You got this. You can do it. Make sure you are getting a good night's sleep every night. Your body needs sleep time to produce Leptin which lets your brain know you have enough nutrition coming in. Let us know how you are feeling today. Do you feel less yucky as the day goes on? Believe me, you are not alone!! In the beginning I messed up a lot and had that yucky feeling the next day. It started to teach me that I don't want to feel that way! So, it's a good thing because we are learning. ![]()

Great advice, Yam-Yam. It does take a while to find what works.
Deborah, we all seem to go off the deep end once in a while. The beauty of this is it doesn't set you back very far if you just pick up, dust off and get back on rotations. You can do it. |

Yamyam has it covered on all points.. also another thing i have done is.. soup.. you can do progresso soups in a can if you need or just broth can be a filler to make you feel like you ate with a small amt of caloires in the evening.. Plus dont beat your self up.. I am what.. 7 months into JUDDD and last nite.. i was so ravinous i got out of bed at 9:30 pm.. went to the kitchen on a DD and made a veryvery high caloire grilled chesse sandwich!! And i slept like a baby.. Life happens and sometimes we just need to listen to our bodys just for that one time!![]()

I am a saltine freak!!
Once I put that first cracker in my mouth, I'm a goner!
So, I don't go there. Processed carbs are my downfall. I try to drink chicken broth with an egg stirred up in it....kinda my version of egg drop soup. Or even a can of any type of soup you like, if it's low calories. Also, cottage cheese or yogurt with some sugar free davinci stirred in for a bit of fruit flavor. Protein helps me a lot as some have already said. A slice of ham wrapped around a pickle works too.Just start again.......this is do-able! And you can do it. ![]() Shari |

My evening cravings ended after I began having a hot cup of herbal tea with 1 tbs. extra virgin coconut oil stirred into it at 8 p.m.

Thank you!!! You all talked me off the ledge! lol After doing LC for a year I should know better than to eat saltines, but what can I say????
I think I need to stay far far away from processed carbs and sugar no matter how low calorie they are. They trigger the beast inside. But as you very wise women pointed out there is a learning curve when trying something new and tomorrow is a new day...a DD. I'm gonna give higher fat a try and if that doesn't work I'll try higher protein the next time. I am so happy I found this group! thanks again ![]() |

I sleepwalk eat, so if I don't want to risk eating it (and I may never know if I don't leave evidence or wake my wife) I don't bring it in the house- end of story. I think my wife has a few treats stashed away, but since I don't know where they are I don't seem to go looking for food in odd places when I sleep walk it's no problem. It may be extreme, but I really don't keep any UD foods in the house. Today is an UD and I went to the grocery store on the way home from work and bought stuff for tonight's dinner. I still sleepwalk eat a couple times per week from what I can tell, but I save 100 calories just in case and all I have to get my hands on are magic pops, kavli crisps and plain FF greek yogurt. My 100 calories should cover that even if I ate a bunch of it.

Saltines would do that to me too. Or an open bag of potato chips.

IMO carbs aren't the devil. They are just evil on DDs. They will destroy me so I stay away. Now, on an up day, all bets are off. But on a DD that cracker probably did you in.

I do not count carbs. But count me in the team who saw vastly increased evening appetite when I ate bread/cracker type products with the evening meal or as a snack later.

It you need the satisfying crunch at night look into Kim's Magic Pop or Kim's Deli Pop. There are some seriously low cal ( 10 cal- 15 cal per "pop") that can really satisfy.

Count me in the no processed carbs group for DDs. I have some 1/2 inch cuts of celery just sitting on the counter today for that absentminded kitchen checking behavior. Just one offers a bit of crunch and reminds me not to open the fridge.

![]() Keep the celery sticks soaking in a bowl or tub of ice water. They stay fresh for amost a week- no wilting and then you don't even have to chop it each DD. Just grab an go. |

Today was a DD and I feel like I'm getting the hang of it much better! It was also grocery day and I was concerned it may not go well. But I did just fine. I did buy some celery and cucumbers to snack on for DDs. It will be hard to get used to celery w/out peanut butter but I will try. I haven't weighed myself because I had a couple rough days, but I feel really great today. My brain seems clearer (if that makes sense) on DDs. I also actually joined the gym today! Been thinking about it for months....so maybe I really am making progress!
Thanks for all the tips and support!!!!! ![]() |

You could make up a Tbs of PB2 with water till runny and drizzle it into your celery sticks through the day. Only 22 cals and you'd be getting protein as well as taste.

PB2 is defatted, powdered peanut butter. It's wonderful! And it only has I think 45 calories for 2 T. If you click on the blue PB2, it will take you to Netrition's stock and you can click on the nutritional information. I
it! |
