Does your partner JUDDD (or something?)

Hello JB's!

I'm back from my last business trip (until December) and I have the whole month of October at home, until our big Mexican vacation.

I think I've convinced DH to try JUDDD.... he loves LC, loves eating meat, but he also likes to eat out and non-LC foods... and you know how hard it is to come back from even just 1 "cheat".

He sees me eating foods he shouldn't (but he often does), and needless to say, his weight loss has stalled. Has probably gained a bit.

Could you let me know, with you doing JUDDD, if your partner does JUDDD, or partial JUDDD, or what they do (assuming they do need to lose weight)?

I'd like some stories of male victories to share with him.

Thanks buddds!
S.

DH did JUDDD with me off and on a couple of times. When he was JUDDDing, he was losing very well. He doesn't weigh, but had to tighten his belt a couple of times. He rarely counted anything, but just skipped breakfast and sometimes lunch on DDs then had a low cal dinner. On UDs he'd eat whatever he wanted.

He recently got approved for gastric bypass, so he's spending his last month before the surgery not worrying about food since that will be his entire focus after the surgery.

Thanks Dawn-- I was thinking my DH would do something similar (though he's into gadgets, so he could track using his android phone).

BTW-- not sure when you updated your pic, but you look PHENOMENAL!!!!

Soren, my lovely man has been doing the 5/2 thing from the BBC show for about a month. He doesn't need to lose an ounce, but he'd love to see his BP decrease. He also had a malignant cancer about 18 months ago, so he's keen to do good things for himself.
He's already fairly happy with LC because of the steady energy it gives him. (His work days are long this time of year.)
He's lost the only fat we could detect on his body - teeny handles above his belt at the back - and I think he's enjoying the experiment.
He's a trouper, though. He was vegan when I was vegan, he was Froot Loops when I was Froot Loops, etc.
We are SO hoping this'll do terrific things for his health.

My grown son announced today that he is going to try JUDDD. As a 24 year old in active training for a triathlon I expect the weight to FLY off him. He doesn't have much to lose but has picked up about 20 pounds in the last two years that he never had before and would like to get rid of. Makes me proud that he sees my success and wants to emulate. I hope he can stick with it.

DH is having his first DD today (with me)... let's just say yesterday was UUAD and leave it at that So far so good, he's had 2 protein shakes, is now having a pepperette (meat stick, we call them) and we'll start dinner soon, grilled chicken and boiled radishes

Hi Soren!

My fiance is doing JUDDD with me--and he's been having more success with it than I am so far. He has a pretty physical job, so I'm amazed that he's been sticking to the rotation--he doesn't have as much to lose as I do (I think he looks fabulous at 215, but he wants to get down to 190) I think he's lost about 10 on JUDDD, where I've lost and gained the same 5 since we started the end of August.

I leave them whole if they are little, cut in 1/2 (lengthwise) if they are big. Boil in salted water till just fork pierceable.
I add some butter, salt, pepper, and chives!
Super yum! way low carb and low calorie (butter optional) Enjoy..

my BF weighs around 140-144 lbs... at 5'7", he is a little guy! He eats small meals/portions (gets full quickly), but then snacks... eg 2-3 snacks after dinner ... and he can skip meals, forget to eat too though (works as a realtor). I think it is largely fair that he is this slim... but one ??? is that he used to do Ironman triathlons, probably trained 20 hrs a week, and has given that all up but for a bit of golf, and some light weights... and he has not gained an ounce. Now maybe he just ate more when he trained more. I buy things he likes that I don't like dill pickle chips or peanut cup icecream... and he is pretty good about not leading me into temptation. He sees changes in my bod and mood about my bod after a month, so he is supportive, and asks if I am UD or DD.

so long story short... he is not JUDDDing... nor is my 16 yr old lean athletic hungry son... just me (and you all )

My wife, although also female, is kinda JUDDDing with me. She has kinda DDs. Maybe around 700 calories and a few extra UUADs but she has lost 20 pounds or so. It's great to have your SO join you even if they are a little less strict.

We got through his first DD-- He had a headache-- not sure if it's the DD or the impending weather, but he toughed it out, and I'm so proud of him.

He's worried about counting all the time... but like some of you mentioned, he sometimes forgets to eat during the work day anyway, so i figure this kind of goes with his natural life anyway. Hopefully he'll bring some shakes to work, and if he has (or doesn't have) those and then I make dinner, I think we'll be ok.

Also, as many of you pointed out-- even a couple DD's a week seems to be a good thing.

Just *MUST* get off this LC-Cheat-Gain cycle he's on, it's of no benefit at all.

Step 2-- see if he likes any of the online/app counters, will report back
(not so much for counting, but so that he can have the info at his fingertips, learn for himself how many cals/carbs in something, and make his own choices, ya know?)

Soren, my LM started out saying he had absolutely no interest in counting. Within two weeks he was asking for the caloric count of everything on DDs. And just yesterday he realized that he can easily lose track of his tally unless he notes it somewhere. So he's growing into his own methods. It's fun to watch.

(Last night I was hungry at the end of the day. Loud, loud stomach. He offered me the last 100 calories of his DD, which he hadn't yet used. I told him I don't think it works like that, but it was sweet.).

My DH is on and off the scales like a teenage girl... He started JUDDDing with me a few months ago, has lost about 20lbs and wants to lose another 20. He's tickled pink by the weight loss and also by how he's getting that "reshaping magic" that we see here. Our grocery bill has shrunk dramatically with both of us JUDDDing too!

It was very sweet! You know how we were discussing sending pants to JUDDD buds as we shrink out of them (NSV thread I think). We could have a pool of left over calories to share with those in need . I use to work at a hospital that let you donate sick time to "bank" for a co-worker who got injured or sick. One could borrow in increments of 50 calories at a time

My DH started JUDDD with me on 04/18 to date, he has lost 39 pounds. He has done very very well. I think his goal is 195 pounds, he is currently at 197. He loses much more easily than I do and lately, he doesn't really follow DD's at all and still will lose a pound here or there. It is infuriating and GREAT all at once. I have been stuck at 170 for several months now (part my own fault, part my freak body!). He swears JUDDD is the only "diet" he will ever do!

Love that!

And I know my DH-- if I push too hard, he won't do it (we're both Scorpios...we need to come to something in our own time). BUT, he also wants to do it "right".

Soren, my DH has been JUDDDing since April 1st and he couldn't be happier. He has gone from 196 to 179. He was wearing a 38 pants and now his 32 shorts are getting loose. He does weight lifting and has gained a lot of muscle. He says it is the easiest diet he had ever done! Makes me happy 'cause I know he will stick to it with me!

My DH scribbles DD calorie counts on scrap paper all over the house! He doesn't track on UD.

Thanks Jade!

Question-- so my DH is about 300lbs right now, and I looked that up on the calculator, for his height, weight, age, and put sedentary (he runs around at work, but whatever).

He's got about 3000 cal on UD, 650 or so on DD.

Here's the question-- how is he ever going to get all his cals in on UD??? He's so busy at work that he forgets to eat usually (which is why I think this plan would work for him at least on DDs).

*He* thinks he'll just eat what I eat. But I only need 2000 cal on my UD, and I usually have B/L/D.

I told him he can have wine and chocolate... last night, I gave him a LC "cornbread" (nut flour) muffin with extra butter on it.

Is this an issue for guys? Not getting enough calories so the plan doesn't work right?

on DD, he'll have a protein shake in the morning, maybe one at lunch if he feels like it, lots of coffee (he's happy to have that back officially-- it's "out" on Atkins) and then dinner with me and he'll just have more of what I'm having, like a 60/40 split I think.

Thoughts? Am I over thinking this (I'm sure)... If he does any version of IF it's better than nothing?

I bet it is...if he's heavy now, maybe the whole forgetting-to-eat-all-day is part of what got him there (I don't know how tall or muscular he is, so I don't want to assume he's overweight )

Does he have TIME to eat at work? If he says it's a medical issue, will his supervisors/co-workers make sure he's covered during his lunch break? (I've had this problem at a few jobs: I was the only person who did what I did, so it was very hard for me to get a lunch break unless we had a lull in customers/work orders.)

Does he like to eat breakfast? If not, maybe you could fatten up his protein shake with cream & nut butter. Maybe he could take some nuts or a jar of peanut or almond butter to work, and at least have a spoonful of that when he gets a chance. Or make him a thermos of high-calorie shakes that he can sip on...if he can have "lots of coffee" during the day, maybe he can sip on a shake?

Have you seen the threads about "fat bombs"?

I was making some the other day and I melted together peanut butter, coconut oil & ghee (clarified butter). I saved some of this to use as my peanut butter from now on!!! Added chocolate to the rest.

Quote:

Only if he's getting enough calories/nourishment at some point! Otherwise his body might enter into a sort of stress response and try to store fat.

My husband does really well on JUDDD and has been doing it with me. He does better than me; not necessarily in pounds, but percentages. He is over 6 feet tall and his BMI was never as high as mine. Technically we have lost almost the same number of pounds. But, the number makes a bigger difference on him, either because of gaining muscle or being taller, or the lower BMI or whatever. Anyway, he looks great and I have a ways to go. He also pays less attention to the numbers than I do. He just basically eats whatever I do for dinner and packs a low carb/low calorie lunch for work every day. He occasionally eats more/bigger snacks or desserts than me. But, he is much taller and has a better metabolism; so it works for him.

I can tell you, any "extra" calories my DH needs, he gets from Beer, Wine or Mixed Drinks. He SWEARS that the reason this plan works for him is he can plan/budget for his drinking. As I stated, my husband is at goal weight and he has been since June. He lost the majority of his weight 37 pounds by July 1st. THat is just 2 1/2 months after we started. My DH swears by JUDDD says it is the best thing EVER!

LOL-- thanks Monica, PJ, and Wiiiii

DH is about 6'3" so he's pretty tall, carries most of the weight in his belly (so, that's super bad for health I think), and is a manager so he *should* be able to manage his schedule better-- yet he gets pulled into meetings and sometimes says he doesn't have time to pee!

Upping the protein shakes on the UD or some sort of fat bomb is a good idea, also him knowing he can drink and eat chocolate (never lost the desire for dessert, even after all this LC time) I think will be key.
We'll get him some nuts for his desk (desk nuts... there's a joke in there somewhere )

Ok, so we have to make sure he eats all (or most) of his calories on UD, and he can fast or whatever on DD, so I think we're good there.

Just checked in with him, says he's doing fine today. Yay!
