The Coconut Oil

I think it's important to the formula. Something about the MCTs. I tried it with the butter alone, and it was helpful, but once I realized I was consistently getting more appetite suppression out of the kind with the coconut oil, I have never altered the formula since.

I had bulletproof coffee this morning. It's now 7pm and I just felt my very first mild hunger pang all day. If it stays mild like this, I won't eat anything else today.

Steph, you are an inspiration! Do you only do it on DDs, or do you do the higher cal version on UDs also?

Only Down Days.

On Up Days I'd rather spend my calories on ice cream.

LoCarbGal, what is HWC? I have figured out most of the abbreviations, but that one has eluded me!

I am going to find some CO this weekend. Any suggestions on the best type?

Thanks!

I am not on JUDD but I would like to try the Bulletproof coffee. I love anything coconut so when I saw this it sounded good. There is one day a week I usually don't get to eat until 7pm so I thought this might work out. I would possibly skip the butter...but I will try anything once! I saw an organic brand of CO at the grocery store yesterday so I might try that but I am going to check the label. Is there anything on the label I should look for??

it doesn't taste coconutty, if you do want that (most don't). Look for extra virgin on the label, and it should be in a dark container (less likely for it to go rancid), though it does keep on the shelf for quite a while.

Yep, that's right. As far as brand, this is my first try, and I got Nutiva. Soren's right, it doesn't really taste very coconutty, maybe just a hint or a whisper, and in coffee that doesn't stand a chance.

I like the virgin CO from Trader Joe's. It does taste coconutty. I also have the cheap LuAnn version I got a WM. It does NOT taste coconutty. I'm thinking about getting some coconut manna from WF this weekend, though that wouldn't work in BPC. It just sounds nummy.

There's a nice liquid coconut oil on netrition that I use. It's wonderful.

Thank you everyone for your comments and tips. Drats! I can't use HWC. The greatest majority of dairy products give me screaming migraines. If I use a triangle of Laughing Cow Cheese, I can't use it or any other dairy for a few days I can maybe squeek by with a tsp of butter for a BPC every day. It was definitely a huge drawback when I tried low carb.

This comment really sat with me. I enjoy my straight butter and then tea on the side, but I'm thinking, if it works for Steph, it will work for me (fingers crossed)

so I busted out the blender, measured 1tsp unsalted butter, 1tsp of my solid coconut oil, some truvia and some splenda, and my black-tea based pumpkin chai tea.

Enjoying 16oz right now Used the "blend hot water and soap" technique for cleaning the blender (which is the only drag... how lazy am I that I don't want to have to clean the blender? )

Today's plan has me out and about until about 5pm, so hopefully this will keep me going till then!

This morning I made up my BPC, sat down at the computer and started sipping. I forgot to add my sweetener! But it wasn't bad. I could taste just the hint of the coconut oil, very pleasant. I knee-jerked and went back to the kitchen and added my sweetener, but now I wish I had just sipped at it w/o. Somehow, it's not sitting too well on my tummy. I'll try it w/o sweetener one of these DD mornings!

Full disclosure, I don't use sugar, but I love sweetened drinks! Coffee, hot tea, iced tea, crystal light. Drinking anything unsweetened would be a BIG DEAL for me!

I don't think the lowest calorie version (80 cal) is very tasty. It's ok. It's coffee. But I don't drink it for taste. When I've done the 200 calorie version, I've thought it was quite tasty, but I never want to spend those 200 calories on coffee!

Well, I am sitting here at the computer sipping on a BPC with the addition of CO in with the butter for the first time. It really is not bad! I did not spring for the most expensive because of cost. I just bought one in the oil section of the grocery store. Once you get past the "mind" thing of putting solid "grease" in your coffee, it really is quite tasty! I really cannot taste coconut at all. I will be interested to see how it holds my hunger today.

HomeWorker-- did you use the blender, or just melt the butter and CO? the blender seems to make a big difference, in that it's not just grease floating on top.

I used my Bullet. It works great. The fat and coffee never separate.....it is just the "thought" that I am doing that! Like I said on another post, I have HUGE texture issues with my food!!

Thanks!

Before I had any CO in the house, I had tried the BPC blended with butter only. I actually liked the taste better than the blend (maybe because I have the extra virgin CO which really tastes like coconut).

So the other day I couldn't be bothered with the blender, so I tried stirring a tsp. of CO only right into my hot coffee along with a splenda. No butter. You lose the nice foamy effect, but the CO stirred in nicely! You can see the oil in the coffee, but the taste was the same to me.

I've done it two days now, and 1 tsp CO seems to work as well for me for appetite suppression as 1 tsp. CO + 1 tsp butter. And then you can have twice as many of them for the same DD cals ... might not be for everyone, but I liked it for a busy day.

This is what I like about my Bullet. It is so much easier than having to clean my full-size blender. I just rinse out the cup and throw it in the dishwasher. I have a dish sponge on a handle, and I use that to clean the blade.....takes about 10 seconds. I NEVER use my full-size blender unless I know what I have is too large for my Bullet cups.

Whoa! There's a *pumpkin* chai tea out there? I love my vanilla chai but I'm off now to look for pumpkin.

I have yet to try BPC with only a tsp butter/CO. But I think I'll give it a try in my tea. I don't think that would add enough flavor to coffee for me to be able to drink it. LOL
