I thought of my JUDDD BUDDDs even in Japan . . .

. . . which is not to say I was actually JUDDDing while in Tokyo.

Nevertheless, the rather wide selection of flavored konjac root (aka glucommanan) that I saw there made me think of all my BUDDDs often.

Please don't be sad, but I did not bring back any gluc-with-essence-o'-squid with me to share.

(and for the curious . . . yes, regular rotations erased all hints of sushi, onigiri, tempura, udon, and that little slice of heaven snack I found called "Sugar Butter Tree" in short order)

p.s. editing to add link . . . a few asked if I would share photos when I returned and there are quite a few HERE for those who'd like to take a peek--thanks!!!

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip! Interesting about the konjac root, I'm so sad to miss the gluc-with=essence-o'-squid

LOL!! They had essence-o'-scallop too . . . file that away for future Japan visits!!! I seriously cracked up when I saw these and my husband wondered what in the world I was photographing.

I bet you lost it when you saw flavored gluc! I hurt myself thinking (and laughing) about it!

When I was in Japan years ago, all I wanted to nosh was that glorious, glorious fruit! I still want more of that

I was laughing my head off! I could have spent my entire trip in the convenience and grocery stores--I love looking at interesting food like that.

And yes, the fruit! We saw both the regular grocery store fruit and also the super high-end "gift" fruit that is perfect in every way and very $$$. We have a photo of a very small bunch of grapes (the size of my hand) that was $100.

The hotel where we stayed put out fresh fruit daily and with each piece I had to stop and say "this is the best xyz that I've ever eaten." That became the running theme of the trip. The cleanest subway. The best service. The best Big Mac. The best tangerine. You get the picture.

Is there a way to view the Japan photos as a slideshow?
When I try to click on one of the thumbnails, they start scrolling SUPER fast and I can't stop on the ones I want to see.

Sorry about that! It shouldn't be that difficult but the blog seems to be a bit wiggy lately. If you click on one of the small sidebar photos, you should then be able to use your arrow keys to move though more easily. Thanks for looking.

Eta: Or anyone here is welcome to friend me on FB where the pics don't fly by. LOL http://www.facebook.com/joycesmithphoto

Awesome! You make me want to go to Japan. Why is their fruit better than ours? I want to know!

I know, Steph! I want to know why EVERYTHING was better. Their acceptable is our exceptional, I am convinced. Even the Big Macs were the best I'd ever had . . . with the crispest lettuce imaginable, super helpful employees, and cool recycling refuse bins. The food at the 7-11 was delicious . . . it sounds ridiculous to say such a thing, but it was true!

I was in NYC two weeks ago and I love it there--used to live there--but all I could think this time was, "Man, this food isn't as good and this subway definitely isn't as clean as in Tokyo!"
