I'm going to sleep!
My goodness, I never realized that loss of sleep could make you hungrier AND burn less fat. It's related to ghrelin secretion, apparently.
In an older study, even if you diet and lose weight, more of that weight lost will be FAT if you get enough sleep. I had no idea it was so important. I usually NEVER get enough sleep...but not anymore. I'm convinced. From now on, sleep is a priority. Good night, everybody. ![]() Lynne |

Yes, sleep has become an important part of my WL plan!
I'm surprised they didn't mention cortisol in that article. Did you see this thread? (It hasn't been active lately.) Circadian Rhythm Reset |

Everybody knows about this but me?
Figures.PirateJenny, I remember seeing the circadian reset thread, but I didn't relate it to "not getting enough sleep"; I missed the connection. I guess I've bought into the "calories in calories out" line of thinking for so long that I'm scratching my head at the idea that sleep deprivation can affect your weight, and make losing weight harder even if you're doing everything right. I wonder if some people are more affected by lack of sleep than others, weight-wise? Lynne |

Our metabolisms are so different - the more we share info, the more obvious the differences become. I am sure weight-wise this is as true of sleep as it is of food. Now, go take a nap |

So it's more complicated than sleeping enough, but I thought you might enjoy the additional info. |

My sleep is very mixed, but improving with JUDDD. I have a sleepwalking / eating problem which has now been cursing me for over 15 years. I see much more rapid weigh loss the better I sleep. This is compounded by losing better by getting better quality of sleep and not consume food in my sleep. I would love to try the circadian rhythm reset at some point, but right now that is just too difficult with my lifestyle and living in an apartment with streetlights not far from my windows. On that note I'm going to get ready for bed.

I had to put two layers of "block out 99% of exterior light" curtains up in one house. After that, the bedroom finally got dark. (Had to use heavy duty curtain rods)

I always lose after a good night's sleep, and often gain when I don't have good rest. I think there's definitely merit to getting a good, uninterrupted night's sleep.
