Hi guys!

First-- thanks PJ and everyone-- the collards WERE a huge hit, and I'll make those more often b/c they were delish!

Ok-- the dinner was a HUGE hit!

We started with the sesame sunflower crackers (Dana Carpender recipe, first book) and pate and cheese and the first of 5 bottles of wine!
Everyone made it just about on time, and my cousins came first so I got some time to chat with them which is great b/c I never ever see them.

I warmed up the soup tureen with hot water, and got eveyrone to the table. I've never served soup to a big group though and my friend sitting beside me insisted that I delegate and also let people help me very sweet

So we got the squash soup dished out, and went around and did a word of Thanks from each person

Then we cleared those dishes, and got going on the turkey, which had been out and resting for a couple of hours I think... Eveyrone got to see it (like, a viewing LOL) and then I cut it up in the kitchen, and served it on the turkey platter.

Roasted mushrooms from the pan and some juice, and extra chicken broth becomes gravy in the blender. Remembered the cranberry, put out the collards and cauliflower and the dressing, and when I brought the sweetpotato (OMG today is a DD and this description is KILLING ME! ) to the table everyone was like what's that!

Meanwhile, my Venezuelan friend (who sounds like Sophia Vergara) was reading the menu to everyone!

DH helped clear the table and put some food away, and we got coffee and tea going.

I brought out the pecan pie, my friend's pumpkin pie, and the banana pudding (which after serving the 2 other pies and the cardamom/spice ice cream (huge hit) no one had much of the pudding, ah well, more for me!)

so we sat around and everyone complained about eating too much, needing to workout the next day or not eat (wink wink ) and it was just a huge amount of super fun! The mix of people all got along really well, lots of laughs!

Thanks everyone for your advice and support here!

p.s. the table setting (using my grandmother's china), the turkey and sides posted below

missed my flight. I knew it was going to be that much fun. And look at that table setting. Not fair, I needed to be there.

(Though I may have shocked your friends.)

Brilliant job Soren. Where else but on JUDDD?

And Cindy, we had set for 8 but one was sick and stayed home... You would've fit in, no sweat!

And yes, where else but on JUDDD could I get my DH on the same plan as me, so we could enjoy that meal guilt-free.

It looks and sounds delicious, Soren. Love the table setting w/grandma's china! After seeing your pics and reading your descriptions, I don't think I can wait another month and a half plus until my Thanksgiving! So glad it was a success.

OMG, those are gorgeous pictures.
And Dawn saw the FB pictures?!??
Once again, I am surprised to learn that you might all be real people, and not just the greatest fantasy group of friends ever.
Glad it was wonderful, Soren.

Yes, I'm real! If you want to find me on FB (open invite, no pressure) look up Soren and find the pic of me with my greyhounds, or PM me for more help.

I do post a lot of food pics, so be forewarned!
