It sounded to me like there weren't very many negative things they could say about it! Pretty encouraging, overall.

Thank you, lowcarbinca. That was a quick find on this article, which I believe came out today..?

As far as the author of the article, she seems to have an open mind, be ready with the facts about the proven health benefits, and come pretty close to accuracy when talking about Alternate Day/JUDDD.

The dietician she interviews briefly late in the article isn't answering the topic, because she is advocating increasing exercise with simply a different percentage of calorie restriction. That's an interesting thought, too, but doesn't stick with the topic. I notice she owns her own business and trademarked plan.

Remember, journalists are charged with telling two sides of any story, so I think the author is just making sure to do that.

It's interesting, too, to learn about the drug concept and have the dietician comment on that, but again, the topic was Alternate Day Dieting.

All in all, I think it's a great article, she even mentions watching Eat, Fast, Live Longer, which is a GREAT help to those considering Alternate Day.

The only real inaccuracy that I see - It was inaccurate to say Dr. Guarente disagrees with Alternate Day/JUDDD, when in actuality, he's just saying it's hard to diet and having a pill to take would be nice. He doesn't disagree with the results at all.

That is an interesting article!

I've only read the first page, have to run, finish it later. Just wanted to pop in and share this interesting quote from the first page:

However, he (Professor Guarente) told Decoded Science that he disagrees with the alternate day diet – not because of the results, but because of the difficulty involved in following the diet correctly. Guarente believes that a drug could do the same thing as the alternate day diet, but without having to go on a diet.

Bolding is mine.

I think what i like was it really was not bashing the concept of weight loss thru our JUDDD method.. and that they did not deny that it can do both,, lose weight and become healthier.. but instaed what i read was there warning to those with diabetic conditions to make sure that they speak with there Doc in reguardss to if it would be good for them personally.. So this was a win win article i think. In part we all know that for some,, this diet with its challanges is not for every one~

I confess, I'm sort of smirking at the 'Don't eat less, just exercise more!' advice.

By my calculations, I would have to power walk for almost 15 hours a week to match what's been going on here--and that is fifteen hours I don't have.

I still exercise, but I don't do it for weight loss. I do it for a healthier heart

WHAT an interesting article! Kudos lowcarbinca for finding and sharing it.

My take away is, that was the mildest trashing if IF/alternate day caloric restriction I have seen. They tried, oh they tried. But, compared to other, older responses by experts I have read ("No one, absolutely no one could ever alternate calories for more than a week or two" "Doing that will destroy your health" "Can't work. nuf said.") Compared to that, these experts were almost benign. As Stephanie points out, still ridiculous, but...

Could it be some of the current research our ever so capable and smart researchers have found and shared... could it be the research is beginning to sink in?

Golly, I would love it if this WOE went mainstream!

Next thing you know, JUDDD will be featured on Dr Oz.

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

I think, with all the research, it's hard to gainsay it - but then there's a lot of research on low carb too, and everyone still loves to hate LC!

The underground bodybuilders who do leangains and other "Warrior" type IF have been doing their share of publicity for ADF. I think within the next year, the research will definitely be instrumental in newly published articles and health news, because the Horizon video seems to have given fasting the validity that possibly Dr. Johnson's book didn't achieve with JUDDD.

To be honest... I read the book, and found it a bit fluffy. He didn't sell me on this at all - it was all the actual research I found online, plus the success stories here.

Same here. Although, I appreciate the fact that he wrote the book and it gave me a groundwork to go with, I do believe the science behind it.

I just read the article, so some are suggesting taking "A Drug" rather then following our JUDDD?

For me I do not take any drugs unless it is absolutly necessary!

But the above is just my own thoughts too

I hope to never take another drug......
Anyway, we all know that does not work.
A drug has been created for pretty much everything and look at the results; bandaid, at best. Death at worst.

Okay, the reporter refers to the science which is pro then chooses two experts with conflict of interest in seeing people do this. Of course the guy wants to promote a drug (which he is working to develope$$$) over lifestyle change. And the dietition with her own theory to promote. IMO a pretty wishywashy article.
However, I loved being able to watch the video.

Well, hasn't pterostilbene been shown to have the benefits of fasting?
(Not a drug, but a "pill".)

I didn't think much of that article, to be honest. Very short, no real information, reliant on experts promoting something from which they can personally profit.

I totally agree with casmira. Not much to it. I'm hungry for new information...more details. But at least it's getting some attention.

I just liked the fact that it included all those studies as resource material, and the BBC video.. I LOVE that video - it's such a must-watch.

It's definitely good to see the latest links and I definitely want to read any article about JUDDD, but it's a little frustrating when we don't get the level of detail that those of us who are devotees need!

I suppose those these articles aren't written with us in mind.
