How did I get here from there?

I wrote this on May 1, 2012:
I meant it, too.
On May 3rd a family member took a big step down a slippery slope in his 4 yr battle against Renal Cell Cancer. I went out of town to help with his care. Sadly and mercifully he passed away on July 31. During much of August I helped w/ the things that need doing after a death.
I smoked and I ate the whole summer away. (these activities DID NOT help with my emotional distress at all, but I convinced myself they did)
I have gained back from 186 to 197.
Tomorrow I will be 65 years old ~ did you hear me? ~ 65. I can not believe it. I first became aware that I was 'too big' when I was 12 years old. Except for a 6 year period during which I stayed at 159 pounds on what my family named the tic tac and diet coke diet I have have fought and lost the endless battle with my 'too big' body.
I did find myself during quiet times over the summer coming back to read here. You are all so dear and so supportive.
Thank you for being here and being so faithful to helping those of us struggling to feel some of the success you share so generously.
I am starting again.
I have not smoked in a week, but I eat to compensate.
I am going with Juddd vs. Atkins, because I overeat on strict LC and am amazed at the number of calories I take in daily.
I just read this thread and it really helped: What JUDDD has taught me
The JUDDD BUDDDS are the main reasons I chose this plan, though.
I promise to try to contribute to the forum and to be honest in my posts.
I am giving myself JUDDD for my birthday and since today is my first DD I will celebrate, reasonably, tomorrow on my birthday.
Thank you, if you read this far.
67 years old
It is time.

Quote from SoHappy: I realized the world would never run out of goodies. I could have them forever. I didn't have to eat them every day, every Up Day, or even every week anymore.

Pat, I'm new here to the JUDDD forum, I just wanted to thank you for your honest post. (LOL, I remember the days of the tic tac/diet soda) I'm really loving how easy JUDDD has been to lose weight. You have a great attitude, I bet you'll be a great deal lighter and feeling great by Christmas!

Hello, Pat!

Looking forward to seeing your nutritious, wise choices and your wonderful success!

And, hey, on your first week without a cigarette, which is very cool. Our experience in our family has been that relatives who gave up cigarettes have lived such long, healthy lives that they've gotten to the point they've even surprised themselves. So I hope that for you!

Back, Pat!

I remember you from last Spring.

for a stressful Summer. Autumn is in the air - everything is new again. I am impressed. You have already told smoking who is boss, recognized how much over-eating really helped the way you felt, and found your way back to a place you are always welcome.

Now, let's see get that old JUDDD Magic working for you!

Pat, I'm so sorry for your loss. You are wonderful for helping your loved ones with all the details that need attention after a death.

WTG on quitting smoking! That's a major accomplishment. And getting back to JUDDD will be just the thing. Now it's time to take care of YOU.

Pat, your post touched my heart. I believe doing this for yourself is a wonderful thing to "throw yourself" into. You can do this. You are worth it. You will be in my prayers! I agree that this the greatest place to be and the support unmatched!

Hi Pat,
I too echo what everyone else has said here--what an amazing support group this is! I wish you the best of luck on your journey to health--I quit smoking two years ago September 3rd and can totally relate to the eating/not smoking challenges...
