discouraged

by weeks 2 and 3... no net weight loss.

I don't know how this is possible.... based on caloric deficit alone, I would have expected to lose 3-4 lbs of fat.

I lost around 5 lbs in week 1... typical I find on any diet... mostly water/bloat.

In weeks 2/3, I had 7 DDs... not total fasting, but more around the 30% mark (500 - 700 cals... which I still find quite effortful... not easy that is for sure... and then to not have these lead to any loss????). My up days around 1800-2000, not one UUAD... and I do light weights every other day, and teach a 45 min spin class that probably burns about 3-400 cals, 3x a week.

My weight has rockered up and down for the last 2 weeks from 163.8 to 162.7 as the lowest, and back to 163.8 today.

Maybe I am "resting", maybe there will be a whoosh... and maybe this just doesn't work for me, although why I would have no clue, even just based on caloric deficit on DD alone.

this is starting to make me afraid of my last big effort to lose weight, last year on Lean Eating, an online LC/paleo-ish/weights gig I did religiously for about 3 months, but got so frustated with not losing, that I ditched it.

sorry to start the weekend with a big waaaaa! but I really appreciate any words of support that will keep me hanging in, or tweaking this.

Hang in there.. you body is adjusting to this WOE... stalls do happen, just like life happens... I too have been playing with the same wt for about a month now... soooo frustrating...
But I think my body likes it here right now... even tho I dont.... so I will keep plugging away... making good choices... I certainly dont want to go UP in any way...

So hang in there, give it a couple of more weeks... you may be losing/shifting/morphing.... try on those tight clothes, take those measurements... although my # has not gone down... I can now fit in a size 10 that I could not a month ago... at the same scale number....
its just a number... how do you feel? control? healthier... take the small victories as well...
I know that number is important... but no one knows it but you.... (unless you share)...
Hope this helps just a tiny bit....

Hugs
Karen

Patience (and calories) is the key to this plan. I worry when fast weight loss is the expected results and when it doesn't happen...... I am a slow loser and if I had jumped ship back in January when I saw tiny little losses each week, I would not be looking at 145.6 on the scale this morning compared to the 180 I started with. SO my advice is PATIENCE. My loss is SLOW but then I am getting closer to goal and I am very happy and you can be too, but patience is key.
Just keep pluggin along.

I know this sounds crazy but try upping your UD calories for a bit and see what happens. Maybe your body needs more calories and with that spin class I would think you would be burning off quite a bit. JUDDD is not just about calories in, calories out, its more about the spread between calories and the body's reaction to it. I wonder if you exercise is not knocking you UD calories too low and not creating that spread you need. Just an idea.

Hang in there! Your woosh is coming! If you have a chance read Nancy's (gotsomeold) thread! We both experience stalls and then the next week we dump some. The truth is there is no rhyme or reason. We have Sirt-1 flowing like gangbusters.

What JUDDD has taught me

Are you measuring or comparing your size against slightly-too-small clothing? Because quite a few of these IF/CR WOEs come with the warning: you may lose inches before you pounds. As Sunday says, that has been my normal pattern for a long time. Giggle, I remember shouting "How can I have lost seven inches and the scale hasn't changed?!?!?" one morning.

Also, it does take time for JUDDD Magic to take hold. How quickly each body becomes saturated with sirtuin proteins is metabolism dependent and highly individual. Four weeks is a good average. In which case, you are almost there. (spoiler warning: Sunday took eight weeks...but that is unusual, and when the magic takes hold, it really takes hold.)

I'm sorry this is happening. But some of our biggest losers went through a similar slow start. It is not time to despair yet.

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

And some of us <sigh> are slow losers forever. I am going on 6 months with Juddd and have lost ~23 pounds. Less than a pound a week and I admit it - sometimes I cry when others zip off 10 pounds in a month. HOWEVER it IS working, albeit slowly, when nothing else has been working at all for years while I am in menohell. Keep the faith!

Toora, I lost and gained the same four pounds in the first month, then lost something like ten pounds in the second month. I suspect JUDDD was doing other stuff in month one.
Hang in. The first weeks are hard. It gets much easier.

ok, thanks for and suggestions, every one.

gosh, menohell is a good term... new to me (although I have heard of menopot re the belly fat ). certainly I lost 90 lbs so much easier at 39/40 than this struggle of the last few yrs (I am 48, perimenohellish... still periods, heavy actually, but night sweats etc, so the change is enroute).

I am going to stop with the frequent weighing for now. I just find it too upsetting, like 2-3 hours of utterly foul, dark, pissed off, victimy mood. Ugg. I know I need to weigh more often when I am in maintenance (eventually!!!) this time around (I really let the 35 lbs that I regained creep on... interestingly, I am not alone in this denial: Women are in Weight Gain Denial « Bel Marra Nutritionals | Health Advice | Natural Health Products

I think I will stay the course JUDD and weigh in at the end of month 1, in about 10 days. And remeasure my waist... which has shrunk... and my pants are baggier.

oy! at least I am not saying screw it and stuffing my face (so dumb , but BTDT a bazillion times... nice way to gain weight if it goes on for a while )

thanks again... exhaling.

Hang in there. JUDDD is awesome, but the actual loss of pounds is often in fits and starts. I always say when my losses stall..."I'll get frustrated tomorrow..." Eventually the weight starts dropping again.

And you are only dieting half the time....

Glad you are going to continue, I am sure you will soon see the scale move. But I'd be thrilled with the baggy pants... remember, the pants don't lie.

At 48 is when I entered into the dark zone. Not to be discouraged because I have lost weight since the entry into this zone, but it is weight that snuck in from behind me in the darkness and to be quite frank, I could have sworn it hit me while I slept.

JUDDD works, but it does take much more time than some of us are accustomed to. I understand, because at first, I felt that JUDDD was much slower than other plans and then I came to the realization, I am not losing swiftly period!!! So might as well, go with the plan that is slow and steady.

update

didn't weigh myself since my tantrum, but today (day #27), 6 days after my tantrum, I am 160.9... down ~ 3 lbs from that dang 163.8 bounce up/down number. whew

glad I am sticking to JUDDD (even though I still find my 600 cal DDs hard! I don't know how you ladies on only a few hundred cals get through the day... and night... I have been awake hungry in the middle of the night a few times).

and glad I am not weighing myself too often given my propensity for rage and confusion .

what is also very cool is how my UD is only 1800 or so cals, but that feels like heaven/luxury compared to a DD, and so I feel every other day I am practicing eating within bounds, not overeating, and enjoying it.

Bravo tooaroola!!!

There is still hope your DDs will get better. Bodies can adjust. And, as you say, isn't eating 1800 calories every other day awesome?!?
