A Lurker no more!
Hi everyone! My name is Melanie. I really want to be serious about this and I think the thing to do is to stop this lurking and just join in.
I've been slowly putting on the lbs for the past decade- 40 to 50 pounds just sort of snuck up on me, but since they arrived one by one, I didn't even notice! I'm 37 years old, and 5'2... it's really REALLY time to do something about all this. A couple of years ago, I did Atkins to good success, and lost 25, but then forgot about the whole thing. I made the decision to really get serious and lose all this weight in August, and that's when I found LowCarbFriends.com... I lost 5 lbs in Induction, but also started reading the Juddd boards and hopefully, the rest will be history. Everyone here seems so friendly and supportive... and excited! I knew Low carb could work for me if I could just stick to it, but Juddd seems so flexible, and so POSSIBLE for me! I'm eagerly pouring through all the old threads, and I'm now on my third DD. I think this is really something that I can do! Now, if I can just get this ticker thing to work... ![]() |

Thanks, Nancy! I'm really excited.
I'm tracking everything that goes in my mouth on ******, and also keeping a sort of journal on Livejournal. The calculator at the Juddd site gave me 1774 cals UD and 355 cals DD @20% weight loss mode. My first 2 DD's hit right at 500 cals, and that wasn't crazy hard to do! I mean, it was hard, but nowhere near as hard as I thought it would be! I feel like a nutball saying this, but it was harder to keep within my UD calories and I shot over by 200 cals last night by eating at a pizza place and having an adult beverage. Would it be wise for me to really try to keep it to those 355 cals today for the DD since I overshot by 200 cals last night? Or does that not really matter as long as I'm doing the rotations? ![]() |

Melanie
![]() ![]() ![]() ! So glad you have jumped in to the JUDD WOE!! ![]() About your question: IMHO if you can do the lower calorie DD it would be good, but 500 is fine if lower is not doable. Dr. J says he believes totally fasting on DDs would get the SIRT1 gene going faster, but he also believes most people are unable to do a total fast. Especially in the beginning because you don't have the help of built up sirtuins in your system yet. It takes at least 2 weeks of rotations to get that all activated and going. You have probably noticed that most of us are amazed and happy with the ease and joy of this woe. Let me be one of the first to suggest that you take some measurements right away. A lot of us found inches disappearing before we even saw a change on the scale. Kudos for getting the ticker to appear. Like Carly, I have tried so many times. I think my browser might be blocking it. I'll have to try on a different browser some time, but for now I gave up. Anyway! So glad you are here with us and part of the JUDD BUDD family!

I have never consistently eaten at the DD level the website suggests. My average weight loss has been 2 pounds/week since the sirtuin saturation kicked in. As time passed and appetite suppression grew, there were DDs where I just was not hungry and so, did not eat.
I encourage you to keep aiming for 500 until you find a natural inclination to eat less. |

Another welcome from SoCal...this is a great bunch and will be of help should you need it...good thing your tracking food and keeping the journal. They will come in handy. Second the motion on taking the measurements and keeping a skinny pair of pants handy to use as a guide.

You guys! This is seriously the friendliest, most welcoming message board on the internet.
I'm just ducking in before hitting the hay to say I DID IT! 366 calories and no more and I feel really loopy and wacky and so darn proud. Now, off to bed before I eat the world! |

Welcome!
I'm fairly new to this WOE and board, also. I have been struggling as of late, but only because of my lack of discipline... I truly love JUDDD and am ready to get back into the swing of my rotations again. Good Luck to you! I look forward to watching your progress. We can make this journey together! |
