Transitioning from Atkins to JUDDD

Ok, I've been extremely low carb now for about 6 weeks and have gone from 275 to 248. I'm dying for some carby things. Not much, not enough to really gain any weight but I know it'll stop any more weight loss.

So what I'm hoping to be able to do is transition into a semi-LC JUDDD diet so I can have the occasional treat - like my monthly all-u-can-eat Sushi trip. Yeah, it's bad but it's once a month... And tasty... And I've done it before while being very LC and while I gain a pound or two and stall for 3-4 days I take it all back off and keep going.

Reading about JUDDD it sounds like it can be carb or no carb and it's really just the calories and switching off days. I did the calculator and at my current size it says 3100 cal/day and 790 cal/day for the DD. I figure I'm only eating 2k or so now. How close do I have to be to that 3k number for this to work.

Hi Cobra, well done on you great losses.

Indeed, you can do JUDDD with or without carbs, as it really is all about the calories.

I suggest you start off and do your best to get in your calories, although they do seem high to me. May I ask if you are very tall, or very young?

Introducing carbs is a challenge as you will gain water weight that is for sure. If you don't have binge issues, it often works to just go ahead right away and get the weight jump over with once and for all. But if you are only going to eat carbs very occasionally then you will see the bounce each time you eat them. Some people find that tough.

I will go to Dr Js site and look at some figures.

I couldn't get those numbers even entering you as a male of 18 year and 5'10"

I think you need to go back and make certain that you aren't accidentally using the kilos instead of the pounds, cms instead of inches. Lots of folks do that!

I'll check the numbers again, I'm 36, male, 6'1", 248.

My estimate for my cal needs is 2500-3000 cal/day. Thats using a quick rule of thumb calc, weight x 10 & 12.

You will love JUDDD. It is truly magical for men for sure. My husband started with me on April 18th and by July 1st he was down 37 pounds at and at goal. Your current weight is only about 10 pounds more than what he started at back in April! He is happily maintaining at 198 and his DD's aren't low at all anymore and now, he doesn't count up days at all!

and can't wait to hear about your successes!

Yes those are the numbers I get too Monica.

I really don't think you will have any difficulty doing the Cobra, you men are so lucky with weight loss once you set your minds to it.

Let us know how it is going.

Ok, well I did use 25% and the next level of activity because I'm jogging 3 days a week and looking to go to 4-5 days. 2744 is right in line with my guesstimates...

550 on the DD's.... I've done 800 before, so that shouldn't be stretch. I really wasn't trying to do any IF, it just happens that about once a week due to schedule and not being terribly hungry I have a down day. I'll just have to bring out the food journal because the 800 day I thought was 4-500 till I went and looked...

Yesterday was a slow day for me, about 1,000 cal so today I feast, tomorrow I fast and Saturday me and the GF go for Sushi! She's been wanting to go but doesn't want to say anything because I'm LC. When I told her how bad I was craving it she just said "You have no idea..."

I know, really...

That's what I liked about LC is that you only need to have a general idea of the calories your consuming. Too much or too little is bad but there's a very generous range in between that you can eyeball and do the math quickly in your head and be fine.

This is going to take getting used to but I've done the journal before and found it to be very helpful in learning.

Cobra, if the 550c on a DD are too low, start higher. I honestly don't do what my height/weight/age dictate for DD calories, I simply can't. My DD's are a range of 500-800c. Do you have a smart phone? If so, there are tons of calorie charting aps. I use the livestrong one, although it does cost $$, but I love it!

Hi Cobra--I transitioned from Atkins to JUDD recently. I thought I'd be able to keep it somewhat low-carb but it's not turning out that way. I guess I missed pasta and Captain Crunch more than I thought. I'm still in the "Hey, this is fun!" mode.

This is a great place to be--loads of support here, and lots of interesting threads to learn so much about this lifestyle. I'm enjoying it, although the scale doesn't move down as much as it did with Atkins....but at least I know it WILL go down as I keep with it.

Have fun with it!

Cobra. I saw your pictures in the before/after thread in the main lobby. You have done so wonderfully already!! I think you'll enjoy JUDDD, and you can eat whatever you want, as long as you pay attention to the calories.

Some reintroduce carbs slowly and test the waters. Others (ME!) dive right in. I took a break between Atkins and JUDDD, 2 1/2 days, and gained 3 pounds with adding carbs. I used that weight as my JUDDD start weight and haven't looked back. Some find carbs trigger binges and have to limit them for a while, some indefinitely. Play around and see how you do.

I've been reading his book and what's not to like about this diet... Today is my first DD... I have Sushi to look forward to tomorrow so I think I can make it though today.

My problem with Atkins weight loss mode is I can't have more than about 30g of carbs. Even a little thing of Chocolate milk is 26g... It's not that I want to eat a pound of pasta at every meal or devour a box of doughnuts, I just want one or two from time to time. But then I stall for 3-4 days. So if I have 1 a week then I only get 3-4 effective days. A month I can put up with, 2-3 is pushing it... It was part of why I stopped last year and went to maintenance mode.

I've had days where I didn't eat till around 6pm so I can do this. It may be a little hard in the beginning but my appetite is nothing like it used to be. So it's probably good that I did Atkin's first.

I did bounce up a little bit in weight today, but I know it's water weight so it's not really bothering me. I'm going to give it a week to ten days and see what happens. If it becomes a routine and I'm losing weight I'll stick to it. If not I'll go back to Atkins and I'll have scratched the carb binge for a while...
