Lowcarbgirl, I hope you enjoy your lunch. You sound very organised.
I ate over budget on my UD yesterday, due to bad planning. So far this week, I've had 3 on-target DDs, one on-target UD and 2 high UDs. Lessons for me there then!

Dawn, thanks for the MD info. Have worked mine out accordingly.
Cindy, thanks for flagging up anchovies. I was wondering what would be good on bran crispbreads!

Lowcarbinca, and Cici, fancy forgetting to eat. I can't imagine doing that!!
Dakini, I have the same inbetween-size problems. From what I've read here, JUDDDing bodies tend to change shape even though the scales don't necessarily alter.
Cobra, I hope you enjoy your sushi.
Dolores, inspiring start with the number shift! I hope your DD is easy today.

I had the same question and the best answer seems to be have a mid day. So you come off your DD, go into a MD then UD. This way you don't blow your calories out of whack. So if you can plan that's the way to do it but having two UD's or two DD's back to back isn't going to wreck your progress.

Additionally I've heard of the 5/2 diet where you eat normally for 5 days and restrict for 2. Weight loss isn't as quick but all the benefits of IF are there.

As for me, I made it though DD #1, 33hrs of fasting and I learned something very important. I had in the past eaten at night for fear that I would wake up ready to gnaw through the refrigerator in the morning for something to eat. Didn't happen. In fact, after I woke up I laid in bed playing with the dogs for 20 minutes or so before getting up, then I collected eggs from the chicken coop before setting down to eat. So I was up a good 30-40 minutes before eating and I ate what I would consider is a normal breakfast. I did't gorge myself.

My low weight on Atkins was 248 and after Thursday with lots of carbs I was up to 251 yet this morning, after my first DD I was once again 248. Could I be lucky and that was the extent of my carb bounce?

And that sounds so nice... Two-Forty...

Hi everyone! My name is Melanie. I just made an introduction post and saw this September newbies thread, oops. I'll do a bit of copy/paste from there.

I've been slowly putting on the lbs for the past decade- 40 to 50 pounds just sort of snuck up on me, but since they arrived one by one, I didn't even notice! I'm 37 years old, and 5'2... it's really REALLY time to do something about all this.

This is my first weekend rotation, and today is my 3rd DD. I'm really into charting progress and keeping myself honest, so i'll be weighing every day and noting TOM and other bits of info for myself.

I do have a question.. I can't permanently add a signature to my posts.. i can add the weight loss tracker thing to each post if I want, but not as a permanent sig as it says the Admin has not given me permission. Do I have to post a certain amount of times to get that?

Welcome Melane and good luck.

As for the ticker, you need 60 posts and 60 days before you can add a sig... I'm 75% finished on mine but still have 30 days left... So while it's not realistic, I enjoy thinking by the time I can post a ticker I won't need to post one...

Glad to see more newbies joining in. I'm glad we're in this together.

So today was my official 1-week weigh in, and I've lost 3.5 pounds. I'm amazed! And it hasn't been all that hard. AMAZED. I've had some moments of growling stomach on DDs, and just a bit of trouble getting those last 100 or 200 calories in at the end of UDs (whooda thunk?) but overall, it's been pretty easy.

Even though my mind is already doing the whole "if I lost 3.5 pounds every week.." which I know isn't going to happen, I really feel like this is jumpstarting my system.

I'm just really excited by the idea that the holiday season won't be torture this year. Or the other option which is the gain of a quick 15 pounds, or worse. I can still keep losing AND have all the treats I want. Wheeeee!

So glad you're enjoying this LoCarbGal. It was just before the holidays that I started JUDDD. In the UK of course we don't have Turkey Day and Haloween is less of an event too. But I was so inspired reading how well people did over that time.

When Xmas and New Years came I too had not problem at all.

After almost 11 years on LC it was a miracle to me.

No, no, not that amazing. I was around 132/4 when I started JUDDDing. I must go and rewrite my stats I think. There I have put 50 lbs lost with Atkins, and 10 with JUDDD. I hpe that is clearer.

I lost the 50 lbs back in 2001 and then found I gained and lost the last 10 lbs again and again.

So in October last year I started JUDDDing and got down to below my 127 goal.

Thank you so much for your kind compliment.

One week in and doing good. If you told me a year ago that I would be eating as little as I am I would have called you a liar.

The scale hasn't moved much but I did go from low carb into high carb JUDDD. I don't think it'll be long till I get that out of my system and the scale will resume it's decline.

How do you measure your DD's? I stopped eating last night around 8pm, so it's been more than 24hrs for me. I was hoping to make it till morning but that just wasn't happening. So I'm at 630 cal with a goal of 555. Still not bad though.

Is it the whole day, 24 hrs, ?? Do you make any concessions to longer DD's? When do you stop eating on your UD's? I used to have a rule about not eating 3-4hrs before bed time but that was so I could finish digestion and then fast for 8hrs or so while asleep. Is it ok to have something closer to bed time? Is it a problem if I go over but space the DD over closer to 36 hrs?

WOE: Whatever plan keeps me around 150 lbs!
Ideally, your DD would be around 36 hours (from the time you stop eating on UD to the time you start eating on the following UD). Say you finish dinner at 7:00 p.m. on an UD, then consume your DD calories -at whatever times, and whatever combinations you choose- then don't have your UD breakfast until 7:00 a.m. the day AFTER your DD; that gives you 36 hours.

Some have found that they stall if they go much over that window because the body enters dreaded "starvation mode" but others can go longer with no disruption to weight loss. It's pretty individual.

to all newbies. I don't have time to talk to everyone but I can sure say how happy I am that each one of you found JUDDD. I can't imagine you not loving it as much as I do.

It's a very simple plan that really works if it is done properly! I watched "Keiras Mom" (Dawn) during my journey and noticed she stayed true to the plan and was always patient and as you can see, has done AMAZING! There are many all-stars here! (far too many to mention)

Never give up!!! I am in maintenance now for over 5 months and love it just as much as ever. I am a JUDDDER FOR LIFE and hope you ALL will be too. Best of luck to everyone.

I am a newbie to posting, but have been lurking and started this WOE on July 10, my 40th birthday ( an UD of course)!

All I can say is Give It Time!!!! I am now 10 weeks in and the last two I have seen the most loss. Up until now I had averaged about a half pound a week (normal for me). Usually with all of the multiple ways of eating I have tried I completely stall out by 6 weeks. This has been steady, and with the FOUR POUNDS I have lost in the last 2 weeks, my average is a pound a week! I NEVER see that! I have about 20 more to lose, so this is great with me.

And I must confess, most of my down days have been between 550 and 700, when the calculator says they should be 430. And most of my up days I easily reach 2000-2200. I do work out 3 or 4 days a week though.

After thew first few weeks, I no longer worry about food! I have figured out what I like to eat on down days, and I eat what ever I want on up days. So no stressing, no wishing I could eat something. I have never lost 10 pounds so easily ( once I got through the first two weeks where I did stick to 500 calories - that WAS tough).

(my husband says to tell you he has lost 13 pounds with no exercise, LOL, guys always have it easier. He didn't lose until 4 weeks in either though)

Oh, I also went on vacation for one week and ate at maintenance level (1000 DDs) with no ill effects. I was back to low weight in a a couple of days. Love it!

Good luck to everyone! Give it time!!!! I'm off to have a lunch out on my UD!

I tried to download it to my Kindle Fire and it was glitchy I guess. It said it downloaded but I can't find it. I just downloaded it to my work computer though (shhh, don't tell anyone!) and glanced through some of the recipes. Many of the higher calorie versions can be made lower calorie by just excluding the oil. Thanks!

Happy Hump Day Everyone! I posted on the JUDDD Newbies sticky and now am marking my spot here...having been a lurker on LCF and especially JUDDD since January, I have to say this is one of the most caring and genuinely supportive online groups I've ever seen......and the most fun IMHO... That would be an awesome party!

No whoosh for me after my hungry DD
Maybe the hunger was because I've had a very stressful week and was probably using more energy than my allocated cals are prescribed for - or maybe I was just having a hungry DD

This weekend, I'll have no chance of doing proper rotations, so will just have to eat "sensibly" and start again on Monday.

Hi Flossyliz--here's hoping for a whoosh coming soon to your nearest scale... Not everyone loses after every DD; I know that some folks here have posted losses after UD's and gains after DD's. But when the scale is not cooperating, it is quite frustrating!

I'm hoping one of the more experienced JUDDD-er's jump in here with the exact details for you (I know there's a thread on this board that talks about this), but you wouldn't necessarily have to give up on your rotations this weekend. You could keep your rotations and just do maintenance level calories for your DD's instead. For example--if you are currently doing 35% of your "normal" calories for DD's, then you could switch to say 50% instead. You might not lose weight over the weekend, but you'd stay in the habit of the rotations, and not have to worry about making up lost ground when you restart. Plus you would also get the boost of knowing you're not cheating or failing with your WOE when something comes up. I wish I would have tried this several months ago when we were in the middle of moving, but it never occurred to me at that time that I could just maintain...

I agree. Great advice Stepinthyme! Having a plan in place like moving to a higher calorie level for a DD is excellent for keeping on plan. It may slow down losses a bit for that period but I find it keeps me from going in the wrong direction and gaining. I also feel better about myself when I do it this way as I haven't gone off my eating plan I have just worked out a way to stick to my diet during difficult circumstances. Much more empowering and it increases my chance of eating reasonably.
I also wanted to say welcome to all of you that are new to JUDDD!
I really struggled with hunger on my UD's at first (strange I know!) but everything just got much easier as I continued to follow JUDDD. I do find both very easy now (I am knocking on wood!) I am in control of my weight again and I don't worry about my weight bouncing around losing the same 20 pounds over and over again. I have been following this plan for almost 6 months now and I don't think I will ever change from eating this way as I now really enjoy the UD/DD pattern.
I look forward to reading your posts and following your progress!

Wise words. I am looking forward the that great JUDDD party, what an UD that would be.

WOE: Jumping around like a flea on a dog.
Start Date: March 2011
Down another 1.5 lbs this week.
Weighed on Fri after DD. Have found the DDs a bit of a struggle (Calories are around 400) but haven't been this weight for a long time.
Still learning how to dust myself off and get back on track the next day if I go over on a DD.
If there was a way to have an UD on a Friday AND a Saturday I would be a happy bunny...
