Woo - hoo! I have a scale! I don't know how much I weighed last week, but I'm at just over 160 today - and feeling sick and bloated from too much food, lol. Can't wait for my first weigh-in tomorrow!

Hi CiCi. Good to see you here too! Saw you and Molly talking about this and did a little research and thought I'd give this a try!

And thanks Piratejenny for the blood glucose info. Will be staying away from major carbs, and will totally be trying the lemon water. Want to do a few tests to see what happens. There is just so much info on this site it's hard to take it all in!

What the heck, I can do this, right?

Hi

I started JUDDDD this morning! I started on an up day because I have been low calories for the past two and a half weeks. I'm feeling really nervous about eating so much food after having eaten so little lately! Does anyone else feel like this? I guess this feeling will go away once I know that it's working!?

Good plan, an UD is a great way to start.

Don't let the guilt get to you. Enjoy some of your favourite foods and eat to nourish yourself. You'll be glad you did tomorrow.

WooHoo, Molly! Love this place. Great support and lots of enthusiastic Newbies, too. Contagious!. BTW, Congratulations on your amazing progress. Do you have your stats somewhere?

To everybody, I am loving the freedom of JUDDD and the scales have been moving down quickly my first week. Think that will slow down now. My belly was noticably smaller this morning so I tried on those tight pants to see if it is my imagination. Still a little muffin top going on but definately wearable. I have been a bit obsessed with researching the science behind it and spent way too much time on the internet yesterday. Don't want this to be another obsession. It is such a relief to be free of the food obsession. Feel good, really quiet and calm after the down days.

Julie, After what you have already done, you can surely do this.

Hi BUDDDs! I'm so excited to hear about everyone's experiences as newbie JUDDDers, and it's so encouraging to have you veterans here cheering us on.

I had a good UD yesterday. I hit 2196 of my 2272 calories yesterday. It was more of a challenge than I expected, and thanks to a "dessert" of bacon, I made it. It was YUMMY too!

Now, going into DD #2, I feel really good. Coffee with HWC for breakfast so far, I'm planning on celery and chicken bouillion for lunch, and some nice sirloin steak and roasted brussel sprouts for dinner. Sounds pretty satisfying to me.

I was really interested to read (can't remember if this thread or another) how many of you have a whoosh the day after a really hungry DD. I will be curious to see if that's the case with me. I think the thought of that will keep me on the straight and narrow when I'm feeling hungry, so GOOD INFO!

I think I'm going to really like this JUDDD thing. I can see how it can get me through the holiday season in one piece - and a smaller one at that! Thanks guys!

Yesterday's UD I had, among healthier other things, a freshly baked fruit teacake, lightly toasted with lots of butter on and it felt really decadent!

Today, I wasn't terribly hungry till 4pm, when I had a big salad. I'd like to thank the person who told us about Aldi's smoked mussels. I've bought several tins for DDs. However, I'll drain them more thoroughly next time because I worked out my salad at around 200 cals!

Next, I found myself subtracting that from my total DD allowance of 315 and working out what I can have later with what's left. Felt weird but - hey - seems I've now entered into the swing of this JUDDDD thingy.

Weight came down nicely in the first week, then went back up a bit at the weekend and is now creeping back down. So that seems about right too. Lovely to hear what the other newbies are discovering. We can do this!

Glad you are enjoying the rotations so far. Love your beautiful avatar by the way.

Hi FlossyLiz, posting together we were! Yes, smoked mussels and other strong flavours really improve a DD salad. I love anchovies and they get me through often.

It's Down Day #3 for me. I find that I really enjoy my DD's but I am having problems with my UD's. I find I'm so hungry on my UD's and I can't stop eating and a lot of it is junk. Anyone else find UD a little out of control?

This is a fairly common problem. We all think the hard thing will be the DDs, then discover that isn't the case at all.

The best advice is to plan ahead. It may seem a nuisance but if you are having trouble getting used to controlling things then a little structure is the best way to go.

By all means allow yourself some of your favourite foods but have it planned ahead and counted. As you get used to the rotations and start to feel and see the benefits you will be able to take a less rigid approach.

Lee, yup. That was my experience too. And I'm not sure what cured it. It might have been playing with my DD foods, staying lower carb overall (refined carbs still make me a bit nutty), or just time.
Be patient, if you can. Some days go perfectly, some not so perfectly. As long as we're working the rotations JUDDD will do its thing.
So happy to see everyone here.

Hi, would like to join in with you all. Seems like an inspirational group here. There are some fantastic posts on the JUDDD threads.
I donít really have any close friends that are also battling to lose weight and sometimes it can feel like a long lonely road. So itís encouraging to read other peopleís stories of success (and failure as well...because I know all about that)
Looked up my calorie allowances and they are 1878 on an UD and 378 on a DD.
(378... Gulp!. Serves me right for being so short )
Today was a DD and have had 340 cals, Iím really feeling hungry and Iím having to white knuckle it for now...

Dolores C, remember that lots of people start higher (500ish) and either stay there if losses are good or work their way down gradually.
There's an adaptation, for sure, but no need to suffer where you don't need to.

OK, next question - I was busy and forgot to have a snack this am... and it looks like I'll end up coming up at about 360 calories today, when my DD allotment is 408.. for a DD is it OK to eat less?

Absolutely. I am allowed right around 400 calories for a DD, and I had 267 yesterday. Some fast completely with no problems.

Thank you! I never thought in a million years I'd be someone who forgot to eat, lol. I have low blood sugar and get woozy/dizzy if I go more than 2 hours without eating, usually.. Today - no wooziness! This is so cool.

So, I weighed in this morning, down 4 1/2 pounds since I started 8/24, makes me 165.5 (I'm 5'11"). What's weird is that the weight isn't coming off the same as it used to. I thought I wanted to get down to 155 but I'm thinking perhaps more. Since menopause, so much of my weight has gone to my waist, the clothes I've worn in the past when I was 165 fit me much better. I went to pick up some tops today to exercise in and the larges still don't look right, but I look pregnant in the x-larges. I'm glad the scale is going down, just wish I was seeing it more in the fit of my clothes.

WOE: 75lbs lost on Atkins now JUDDD
Start Date: May 2011
Well I might as well say howdy... I did Atkins last summer and lost 50lbs or so and maintained that weight for a year with only minor changes to my diet. I was drinking a lot of soda and sugary drinks so that was a big part of it.

Anyway, I still had more to lose so for August I did Atkins '72 and it worked great. My weight went from 275 down to 248. The problem is that I'm dying for some 'treats' and I know they'll stall my weight loss on Atkins. I can't say I've been cheating but I have been experimenting around about with total carb count and where it comes from and my weight loss has really slowed.

So... I'm going to try JUDDD. I've already had some limited fasting days while on Atkins, nothing specific, just one of those things where at the end of the day you realize you haven't eaten much. They've been in the 800-1000 cal range so I don't feel it will be too much of a stretch to do JUDDD and 500 cal limit. I don't think it'll be simple either but the appeal of being able to eat some carbs that otherwise would stall me out appeals to me.

I know when I get to my goal weight I will be able to maintain that. I've learned a lot about nutrition and how it affects my body and I don't see any reason why I would ever let myself get to where I once was. My problem before was that while I could lose the weight I could never keep it off and that just frustrated the heck out of me.

I'm reading Dr Johnson's book right now and my first DD is tomorrow. I'm going to drink a couple protein shakes and that's it....

Wish me luck!

Good Morning! 2nd UD for me here today, and I was down 1/2 a pound this morning. That's 2.5 after just 2 DDs.

I haven't felt TOO hungry yet on those DDs. I know I'll have plenty of uncomfortable days ahead, but am gleaning ideas all the time from these threads on tasty, satisfying DD eats, and how to deal with the hungries when they hit.

I'm meeting friends today for lunch, and have already planned out what I'll have, so I should be able to meet my UD calories today. I am liking this A LOT so far.

Well it's lunch time and I'm doing good on my first DD so far....

I do have a question, If I know ahead of time that a party or something is going to fall on a DD how can I switch my days so it'll be an up day. Two UD's or two DD's? That's the only one I haven't figured out just yet. Weekends with the GF were easy because I'll always have an UD either Sat or Sun...

It is great to see so many doing so well.

CObra, Based on what I've read here, two up days seems to be the way to go. There are a lot of different intermittent fasting techniques and the others have fewer down days. Also, someone said it takes 72 hours for your body to think it is starving and slow down the metabolism so two down days in a row would bring it close to that. Some also use a medium day to transition.

I'm too new to speak from experience, just repeating.

Oh, I just experienced my first forgotten meal, too. Since it is a DD I get to plug the cals in later. I do find it difficult to eat enough calories on Up days if I am eating for nutrition. Just don't have the capacity of preJUDDD days and it's only been a week. I got some coconut oil to supplement with as I would prefer to keep the calories high enough to make maintenance easier when the time comes.

I wouldn't recommend two UDs to change your rotation. The general consensus is to throw a MD (mid or medium day) into the mix. A MD is the average of your UD and DD calories. For example, if your UD is 2000 and your DD is 500, you'd add 2000+500 = 2500, then divide by 2. Your MD would be 1250 calories.

You can insert that wherever you want, but it makes the most sense to me to put it after a DD, so you have DD, MD, UD (think small, medium, large). Then, on your next DD, you'll still be well-fueled from your UD. I don't think I'd want to go into a DD after a MD. Make sense?

Well day 1 is drawing to a close and I've consumed a whopping total of 570 calories with a goal of 550. I think that's close enough for government work...

I feel good overall, like I can do this. I did have waves of hunger and I tried to hold out till it got bad then I had a 150 cal protein shake and a 140 cal atkins bar. That was about 4:30 and 'dinner' was just a few minutes ago; an atkin's meal bar with 240 cal. The balance of the calories was crystal lite raspberry lemonade for another 40 cal. I've found for me that CL does a great job of managing hunger.

I suspected given the lower days of eating with atkins that I would be able to do this but I worried that hunger would cause me to throw in the towel. After DD #1, and given how many others are doing this, I'm please to say I feel this is doable for me. I loath the idea of counting calories but really all I have to do is come up with a 'menu' for DD's and that will be that. The shakes and bars will do for now but I will get bored and I do like cooking so I will have to figure that part out and learn to be vigilant about calories on my DD's.

Tomorrow I have plans to stop by an old favorite Mexican place for lunch that I haven't been to in a while and then for dinner there will be Sushi... Lots of Sushi...

And lastly, this is just quirky enough to fit my personality. I was talking to the GF last night about this and when I got to the part about only eating around 500-600 calories on the DD she responded "That sounds very ungood..." And it hit me... I will actually look forward to telling people "No thanks, I'm not eating today..."

I'm weird, I know....

Starting my second DD today. Usually eat a bit more on a Saturday and we sometimes have wine with our meal in the evening so it will be interesting to see how that goes.
Is it possible to have 2 UDs on Fri and Sat and then rotate the rest of the week?
Weighed in on Friday morning (After first 340 cal DD) and was at my lowest weight for a long time (159lbs @ 5' 1" - Spongebob Squarepants!)
Was up to 182 lbs at one point. This is the first time I've been in the 150s for years and I feel as though it was the DD that pushed me into it.
Happy weekending everyone.
(I'll probably be back on here later climbing the walls )
