To all the sceptics (I am counting myself here) -- when I first read the recipe -- I thought... wow, gross. lol But, my curiosity got the better of me and I gave it a shot. Wow! Yum! Kind of has that foamy-latte feel and a really nice flavor! I did it on an up-day and added a shot of half and half and a few tsp. or coconut sugar -- wow -- I think Starbucks just lost some business! lol

No sugar on DDs if you're trying to keep the "fast" going, though!

Thanks Jenny. I knew not to do this on DD, I am even afraid to add the butter on DD. I am wondering if it would be smart to abstain from Bulletproof until late after 11 on UD? Just in case you stall the fatburning???

Did you read the whole thread, and find where I mentioned my blood sugar results?
The idea behind the BPCoffee is that it doesn't turn off the signals that you're fasting,
but the fat gives you energy/brain fuel. So, it shouldn't stall the fatburning.

Sunday, just make sure you count the fat cals then you will know if there is a stall/gain and when it started.

I need to read how they tested that theory.

If you give the body an energy source, it responds so I'm skeptical that the signals are not turned off by it.

Blood tests? Had to be, right?

I don't know how or if anyone tested it, but if the "signal" is insulin, fat by itself doesn't turn it on.

If a person is in a fasted state and using body fat as fuel, ingesting fat might not disrupt the process (as protein & carbs do).

This is just me, but I've tested my blood sugar over & over again after having nothing but fat in the morning, and my body doesn't seem to get any signals!

Oh! I just thought of this...if anybody still has ketostix, maybe you could test that way? If you're in ketosis when you wake up, you could have your bpc and check again afterwards.

I am going to do this! Thanks for reminding me! I never did the Atkins plan so I forget that ketostix work with this method.

I first read the initial recipe as saying the MCT oil was optional if you didn't have any brain function. I thought maybe the recipe-writer was saying don't wait to put oil in coffee if you need it that much - just drink coffee quick.

I am fascinated by this but am thinking, wouldn't it be better to keep having my coconut oil in my oatmeal. Hmmm...

If I do try this, I will definitely add the stevia. I'll never be un-needy enough to drink this unsweetened.

Hey, that original recipe is METRIC, so I don't know if you can blame it on us Yanks!

PS--I just checked out his (Dave Asprey's) website, and he *did* get the idea from Tibetan butter tea.
I think he is a Yankee, though.

Oooh .. I happen to have Butter Rum, too!!!

I started to try this coffee today (DD), but opted to wait until tomorrow in case it doesn't hold me.

I did some googling on it the other day and boy I have a huge thread where IF'ers were debating on whether or not it broke a fast due to the calories in the butter and oil. Most felt like it did because of the calories. I know most low carbers feel it doesn't because the fat doesn't mess with the insulin. I don't know if it doesn or not - I just thought the debate bordered on comical.

I saw this debate too and it was definitely comical. In my case, I figure it doesn't matter either way. If it doesn't break the fast, then I get accelerated benefits of JUDDD. If it does, then I'm still only drinking 200 calories and will keep the rest of my calories to 300 for the day.

A lot of IF'ers use cream in coffee as a crutch anyway...no diff really. If you can afford the cals and still achieve your goals, why not?

Okay, so I whipped up my coffee, butter and CO this morning since it's an UD for me. The first taste? Added some sweetener (I had flavored coffee, so I just added some sweetener) and a little whipped cream on top. Made it oh so ! I used just a half portion - cup of coffee, 1 T each of the butter and oil.

As for filling me up, it really hasn't done anything. But it is good and something different. Might be really good when it's time to add some SF Pumpkin Spice, Gingerbread or any other seasonal syrups.

All righty - so I am starting my DD hungry with a 96 calorie coffee in front of me. Quite tasty, but I really hope it is worth it!

I'm attempting to do a total fast today to recover from the delicious but stomach killing Big Boy, Onion Rings and Hot Fudge Cake I had for dinner last night. I had a bullet-proof coffee around 11:30 with 1 tsp of CO and 1 tsp of butter, which I measured out the calories for the whole thing at about 67. So far, so good.

I just want my poor stomach to recover from last night. I woke up feeling bloated and miserable as heck. No matter how many times I get yucky feeling from eating too much bread, I still punish myself by doing it again, even though I KNOW what happens

I sweeten my coffee, so would salted butter be a problem? I love salty and sweet.

I tried bulletproof tea today with hot black tea (green is on my shopping list this week), 1 T coconut oil and 1 T salted butter since that's what I had on hand. It looked gross til I whizzed it in the magic bullet but that transformed it into a creamy, frothy treat. I added a small splash of sugar free vanilla syrup and it was really good. That might become my new DD morning ritual since the bulletproof guy says it doesn't impact your blood sugar or technically break your fast. (I fast until 5ish on DD)

Yep, even the Tibetans, who invented butter tea (which inspired bulletproof coffee) don't put up with a pool of oil on top--they churn the heck out of it--without a bullet blender!!!

BTW--salt is used in making butter tea.

I was sceptical about this but it's delicious! I guess the calories are not that different from a latte with sugar. I only had salted butter but it was still delicious. I added cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg too because it seemed to lend itself to it. Good for the weather right now too!

^ I think coffee with butter is weird in the US too, although it reminded me of hearing about people in Tibet drinking tea with butter.

About half our nights are spent at a cabin with no electricity. I have tried to make my BP coffee out there by shaking the heck out of it in a jar with a lid, but it ain't the same. Grateful for my blender. Love this stuff.

JoyJoy--I made butter tea in my French press by pulling the plunger/filter up & down several times. It mixes/emulsifies it pretty well. (I have an immersion blender, but I'm very lazy about getting it out because I don't have working electrical outlets in my kitchen. )

I cleaned it afterward by putting in some hot water and repeating the "plunging".

So, if your bpc is very important to you, that might be something you could try.
Also might be a bit safer than shaking hot liquid in a jar!

I make my BPC with 1.5 cups black coffee, 1 tbs butter, 1 scoop Isolate Whey (vanilla), and lastly an egg cracked on top of the whey. Blend imediately as you don't want the egg to start to cook. Delish! I have tried it without the egg but it never gets creamy. Tastes nothing like raw egg. 291 calories and I have this as my first "meal" of the day at around 2pm. Will tie me over until 5-6pm easily.
