New Challenge... CAMPING!
We're going camping for 2 weeks. I've created a meal chart with the attempt to keep the UD/DD rotation but I doubt if I'll keep to my 500/1800 calorie count and I'm not really stressing over it, but still want to do the best I can. We'll be doing a lot of walking/hiking/trekking (whatever walking in the woods for miles and miles is called!), so I think that will counteract any additional calories I have. The one thing I'm doing for the first time since I was in the 7th grade is this: I bought a swimming suit, and we will be going to indulge in a day of relaxation at the hot springs out on the Washington Peninsula! I even tried it on and showed DH, and he did a
which is better than the or or I would have deserved last year!! So, while I'm enjoying my "soak", I'll be thinking about my JUDDD Budds and how you helped me get there!! |

Wonderful!
with you on the swimsuit!I just want to add to not rely on exercise to burn off whatever extra calories - just because we tend to overestimate how many we burn during a workout. So if you are hiking 2 hours a day, depending on your speed and how many times you stop, I'd only allow an extra protein bar or a greek yogurt with a few nuts and a little fruit (200 or so cals). Have fun! |

Hiking (especially backpacking) and running are good complimentary sports. When you are hiking you tell yourself, "This is easy. I'm not running." Then when you are running you can tell yourself, "This is easy. I'm not carrying a pack." Have a good trip. I just cam back from a week-long camping trip and my first DD went OK, but after that I just couldn't manage it. We were with other families and sharing food/meal duties. They didn't want to make the cabbage/chicken/laughing cow recipe for me every other day. I didn't go crazy so the damage wasn't bad at all and was gone after the first DD.Congratulations on the new suit!

Have a great trip! Some of my favorite childhood memories are family camping trips. Although our trips were more of the s'mores variety and did not include 12 mile hikes!

UPDATE: We're back from our trip... needless to say I didn't stick even CLOSE to plan, but that's OK. We know JUDDD is forgiving! I "only" put on 5 pounds or so and if you had seen how much I ate, that's pretty reasonable! We did, over the course of 2 weeks, approximately 30 miles in hiking, and would have done more but on Tuesday of week 1, I was on the downhill trip of a GRUELING 8-mile hike, and had just told DH that "I'm on the way downhill, and I'm doing good" when I stepped on a rock, twisted my foot, banged my thigh on another rock -- well, luckily I had my walking sticks and got right up instead of sitting and assessing injuries, and got down the rest of the 3 miles. We did one more 10-miler about a week later, but the 12 mile one we'd planned was just not doable for me. Foot is still tender but OK. We're heading back to work today, taking my memories with me. OH, AND TODAY IS A DOWN DAY, OF COURSE!!!

Sound as if you were lucky not to do more damage.
Glad you enjoyed the trip anyway. No the rotations will ship those 5 lbs away in no time at all. |

what a fun trip (barring the fall) and so glad you were able to enjoy it.
We have camped our fool heads off this summer and no food plan survived exposure to the camp. How was the marshmallow? |

The marshmallow was WON-DER-FUL!!! I still have over 3/4 of a bag sitting on the kitchen table, lurking... must get them out of sight or they'll be toasted over the kitchen stove!! mmmmmm..... I guess I was lucky that DH was trying to be "helpful" and kept stirring the coals and building the fire bigger...
