WOE: Moderate Carb JUDDD (Lost first 4 lbs on WW)
Start Date: 7/4/2012 -- 42 lbs lost total
First Month on JUDDD: Report

The total for the month is: 6 lbs lost.

That's a nice steady WW pace. However, I think it would have been faster weight loss if I hadn't taken one week off plan, during which I went on vacation. I'd initially lost almost 10 lbs, went on vacation, gained them all back, and now I'm back down by 6 lbs. All within the month. So I'm not disappointed in this result. Actually, I'm pretty happy with it because, hello, this is a month during which I went on vacation!

It's also a month during which I took an unplanned road trip, ate out with friends at restaurants at least once a week, attended two back yard cook outs, including my own, and ate foods that have been forbidden to me for almost ten years. And I didn't eat fake versions of them or tiny portions of them either. When I started out here, I said that I wanted to feel normal. Well, so far, JUDDD lets me feel pretty normal at least every other day.

I found levels of control inside myself I didn't know I had. I also learned things about myself and when and why those controls fail. I am only occasionally an emotional over-eater--I suspect that I'm more often a social over-eater. In a way, JUDDD gives me a way of handling that by planning most of my social time on up days.

There have been some rough down days. And though they've become easier, some of them even a breeze, I had a pretty bad one on this past Sunday that nearly broke me. Because of that, I do fear that there may come a time when I need a break and switch to another plan for a while. However, this is not how I ever used to think. I would not think about taking a break. Switching up. Returning to rotations and consistency. No, I would think, it's over! And dive into an ice cream cone of unhealthy behavior. So I think JUDDD is certainly helping me with the psychology of dieting, too.

Ultimately, though, it's all about results. I have to get this weight off me or it's going to kill me. So I'm in for another month. Let's see what happens!

I think 6 pounds in a month with all the wonderful foods and experiences you've had is just wonderful! You are learning about yourself and your body. I predict once you have a full month with no vacations under your belt, your DDs will get even easier, and your UDs even MORE enjoyable if you can believe it.

Happy for you, Steph. Glad you gave it a month's try and look forward to hanging around here with you another month. Yes, I think we do learn something about ourselves this way.

I couldn't have done it without you!

As for the DD's, most of them have been quite manageable. The only thing I can think of for Sunday's debacle is that I had a subway sandwich with a very sugary sauce--it was so sweet it was sticky. And as soon as I ate that, I was ravenous for the rest of the day. I held it under 700 calories, but only by the skin of my teeth. I don't think all carbs are the devil but it may be that on a down day I have to avoid them like they were.

Steph, congratulations on the month. Just to throw this into the mix, DDs didn't become easy or enjoyable for me until about eight weeks in, if I remember it accurately. Now they're both. It's like I'm a completely different person, doing them.
That's not everybody's experience, but it makes me glad you're giving it another four weeks. Lots of great discoveries ahead.

You have had wonderful weigh loss Steph, when you look at the great month you have had.

And as time goes by, if you are having a killer of a DD, you can allow yourself another couple of hundred calories. It will slow down your losses, yes, but it will meant you don't hate JUDDD.

We aren't letting you go now lady!

What a wonderful first month loss, especially considering all the fun you had! Yes, there was some struggle in there as well, but most things that are worthwhile include some struggle.

You should be proud of how far you've come and all that you've learned about yourself!

I would say it was the sugar that likely did you in on that dd. For me, sugar and simple carbs are the death knell for a dd. It just revs up my appetite and it is a miserable state of affairs. But even so, you still kept it to 700 calories! It might not have been pretty, but you still did it.

Glad we'll have you around for another month.

Such great perspective! I think a six pound loss in a month with a week's vacation in it and all that other fun is fantastic!

I've been so interested to notice that several veteran BUDDDs seem to take a break by going to a higher percentage of calories on down days. That could be an option if you need a break in the future ... I'm keeping it in mind if I ever need one!

Congratulations on the 6lb loss!

Vacations are tough to throw in to any weigh loss plan. I think you are doing fabulously! Glad you decided to keep JUDDDing for another month (as much for you as for everyone that loves reading your posts!).
