Can you tell I'm frustrated?
Also google goitrogenic foods for a list of foods to avoid. Many of them can be eaten if cooked first, but some you'll want to stay away from in any form. Soy is a big one, and it's in practically everything, from bread to tuna, to most desserts. I limit soy, but can't seem to completely exclude it.

Dawn.....had to say I haven't had a negative TPO result since 2009. I wasn't aware someone could test negative after the antibodies were detected? I'd love to read any research you might have come across, for sure! I know taking selenium can knock down some of the antibodies but (from say, the 300's to the 100's) but I have never been able to get them below 34, which is where the lab ranges end. I have also heard that over 30 is actually considered positive by many practicioners but I gues that may depend on which lab you use.

Not negative, but "inconclusive" if you're below the reference range. You can have antibodies, but if they aren't in the range, you aren't diagnosed with Hashi's.

As I understand it, some huge percentage of people with TD have Hashi's but it's underdiagnosed for just that reason. I have gotten all my information from either this site, in the Thyroid board, or e-aware, or stopthethyroidmadness.

Hi all - Glad I didn't quit

Hello all - I was on the bulletin board before I no longer logged in daily. I told myself, 'i didn't have time to write and read others' posting. Well, right at that time I started swaying off JUDDD. I know this way of eating works. The first part of July, I weighed in at 215.0. It was hard to fall asleep and each night I would wake up only to find it very hard to resume sleeping. Well, each morning I was late getting up and would rush at the last minute to get to work. I continue to do JUDDD and little by little I was heading downward in weight. I am back as I know this way of eating works. I weigh in this morning at 200.8. I plan to do what I did before when I moved downard. Posting stats each a.m., coming in to say hello to everyone, receiving encouragement from each of you and knowing that I do not have to do this alone. See, it didn't take that much effort or time to write this post. Happy day to all!!!

I still sleep better nights after an UD than DD. I used to get through DDs drinking lots of coffee. Now I only have it in the morning. Helps a little.

I just started JUDDing, but I'm already noticing the same thing!! I woke up at 1:30AM this AM and finally gave up and got up around 4:30 to make breakfast...
I did notice the same thing before I started JUDDing when I was eating very low carbs - which is really odd, because last time I did VLC I got the best sleep of my life. I'm going to try eating something a little carby before bed next DD and see if that helps. I don't drink coffee on DD at all, if that helps.
We'll get it figured out..

Well it's a DD for me today so I'm gonna try eating really late tonight, just an hour before bed. I know I wake up because of hunger, I just know it. I'm hoping it improves... I don't touch caffine after 9am and I work a 10 hour day in an on the go job, so I am tired . My brain wakes up and tells me I'm hungry though. Also waking up to go to the loo to pee all night (probably from filling up on protein). when will it stop! lol... oh well, I'll see how this goes....

It does get better, Guys. This is quite an adjustment for your brain and tummy to have to get used to. On Down Days now you are refusing to feed as heavily as your body was previously used to, in calories certainly and probably in belly-filling quantity as well. That does take a bit to get used to.

But we are an amazing and adaptable creature, and if you don't cave and you just continue to do your Up & Down rotations, pretty soon you're all habituated to it and everything is fine again. AND, you're losing weight, you're enjoying wonderful UDs, and your health will be improving. It's a win from every angle you look at it. So very worth it.

Putting things in reverse is hard....period. If you want to do something that is "gradual" this might not be a good choice. I for one want to put ALL that damage I have done in reverse. The side effects are not that bad when you consider the beneficial health changes that are going on in your body. It's kind of like "Survivor" but you are playing against yourself. I want to win.........and not just for weight loss....but because I lead others. I like that this involves more than weight loss so I keep the longer range goal in mind now.

At least today I did....it was an UD!

I've found that on DDs, I do better if I have a late snack. I usually don't eat too late, but a piece of cheese and a few nuts (or just 1 oz full fat cheese) with a little wine (2 oz on DD, 4 oz on UD) helps take the hunger away. I have trouble sleeping when I'm hungry too. Meditation helps too - being able to focus your mind away from the hunger and on to to the tiredness. I hope you find what works for you! Don't be afraid to experiment! An extra 100 - 150 calories (even over your limit) at the end of the day is better than being hungry all night! You will still lose.

Jbinme - I'm sure you've heard this before, but you look like Rachel McAdams in your pic. Very pretty!

Even though you are sleeping less than previously, I get the impression that you don't feel any the worse for it. It may not really be a problem if that is the case. If you can redirect any anxiety you may be feeling about losing sleep into some kind of relaxing ritual at night, that may help. Thinking yoga, bubble bath, etc.

I started sleeping less in my forties and at 60, still never get more than 6 hours unless I'm sick. Don't seem to need more. Of course, I don't have little kids to wear me out. I do try to put the head down by 10 so to get the best quality for the time spent.

Good luck.

I have been sleeping a bit better but I think your right cici52. Even when I get less sleep I feel fine during the day. I've been trying to not stress about.

Sorry for necroposting and I am sure I am misunderstanding: but why do you go to bed at 8pm? I mean, 8pm to 2am = 6 hours, I would be up then too. What if you just went to bed a little later?

Read for a couple hours or something?

I'm sure I'e misunderstood - :-D Unless I didn't?

It was awhile ago now, so probably everything's fine...but I wondered.

I've gone to bed early my whole life. Can't really tell you why. I never thought of it as a problem. Except when I was younger and wanted to stay up late to go to the clubs. Then I would drink redbull to stay up!
I am not someone who funtions well on only 6 hours of sleep a night.
I usually am sleeping better now. 7:30 or 8:00 until 3:30 or 4:00. I love being up before everyone!

Janette, those are almost exactly my times, too! I love it. Peaceful and quiet in the morning. On weekends, my lovely man and I will have a coffee in bed at four and sometimes have a nap after, then start the day again. That's the best, like getting two days in one.

My father always said "Early to bed, early to rise makes a man/woman healthy, wealthy and wise."

I would love to be asleep by 9pm most nights if I had my way. Life sometimes interferes with that, but I would rather go to bed at 9pm and wake by 6am than go to bed at 12am and get up at 9am. I love quiet mornings, but I'm also more energetic early in the day so I can be productive if I get up and get going.

The hardest time for me falling asleep so early was when my son was a teenager. Oh boy. Who knows what that kid got away with.
