I take Jarrow 50mg, but actually plan to increase that to 100mg. 50mg upon waking and another around noon.

Hi gang-- this is a really loooooong thread
Can someone summarize for me? I wanted to put in an order for other stuff at netrition, and was considering adding ptero, or reservatrol, or the one that has both (?), but only if you think it's worth it?I'm actually wondering about the sleep side affects that some of you may have mentioned? So, is it sleep, and easier fasting? Does it make you less hungry on an UD as well? or do you only take it EOD? Thanks! S. |

I don't know about specific contraindications. I take resveratrol and pterostilbene, but if I had to pick just 1 it would be the pterostilbene. I keep saying I'm going to take 100mg, but still taking just 50mg.

Summarizing?
Wow, to summarize is tough, but I can give MY impressions. Also, do read the first few posts to get the concept of potential health benefits that got attention in the first place. My impressions from this thread only: Most seem to have had some improvement in appetite control, though it is worth noting that some had feelings of increased appetite and discontinued. Some discontinued because the improvement was slight. Some had excellent results with appetite control, worth writing home about. Other positives mentioned were increased energy and possibly better mental alertness. The two main concerns mentioned were 1) headache, usually when taking more than 50 mg, and 2) sleeplessness, usually when taking ptero later in the day. Several solved these by taking only 50 mg and not taking after mid-afternoon. But some decided those concerns were significant enough they would discontinue. The most-mentioned brand - Jarrow 50 mg. Some were able to find ptero less inexpensively, with Walgreens pharmacy being a good bet. (My Walgreens doesn't carry it.) Why ptero as opposed to resveratrol - "half life". Meaning, ptero's effects will last more hours than resveratrol. Also, there seems to be more scientific basis for a greater variety of health claims for ptero. In general, ptero seems to need to build up in the system somewhat for an effect. Best results after using it for a while. So those are my impressions in a nutshell - What am I forgetting, guys? And what did I get all wrong? ![]()

That was awesome, Whitlin, thank you!
I ordered the ptero/reservatrol/blueberry one, will give 1 pill-per-day-in the morning a try, and see if anything changes-- have to get it first, so that won't be till at least 3/12. |

Thank you Whitlin, very good synopsis!
Just want to mention that ptero is very new and little is truly known about human research. People are metabolically/physically different than rats and so we need to take this into consideration. For me personally, I feel like ptero has been instrumental in aiding my fasting and have been taking for a year now. Clinical trial reveals pterostilbene reduces blood pressure in adults Preclinical Studies - Silbinol ETA: Pterocarpus marsupium is the chemical name of pterostilbene. The chemical name is used in the clinical trials. Last edited by sunday; 03-01-2013 at 10:37 AM.. |

I picked up a bottle of pterostilbene, but the store only had 100 mg capsules. I plan to start with 1 capsule in the morning. I'm hoping it will help curb my appetite and boost my energy level.
Also, whenever I see ptero mentioned in this thread I get the image of a blue pterodactyl in my head. ![]() |

I've still been taking 1 50mg jarrow. Maybe 2x per month it dawns on me to take a 2nd one later in the day. I think 100mg will be fine though. Studies have shown that you can easily go up over 200mg if I remember correctly.

I took my first capsule about an hour before lunch yesterday, and wasn't hungry at all after 2:00 pm so I skipped dinner. It's 4:30 am here and I'm just now starting to feel hungry again.
I did get a slight headache after taking the ptero but that may have been due in part to the humid & rainy weather. |

Looks like you get the appetite control well.
I stopped it for a month. After five days back on I found it does take a day or so to work on me but now I can hardly finish my meals! It doesn't sit well with me if I drink but I'm alcohol free for a month or so and so I'm fine. It seems to send you hypoglycaemic if you are prone to it and gives you restless nights if you drink or OD on the sugar. I am also pretty sure it improves skin tone. I do get a lift from it a half hour after my first tablet. It's like a good cup of coffee.

Day 3 of taking ptero and it definitely seems to curb my appetite. I haven't gotten another headache while taking it, so that first day may have been a coincidence.
I don't really notice an energy boost with this supplement but I was mostly interested in it for appetite suppression anyway. |

Ok, so I got my bottle, and now I"m not sure what to do.
Do you only take it on DDs, or every day? Empty stomach or with a meal? Sorry to ask if we've answered this before? S. |

It works best for me if I take it daily. On DD's I take one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The first few times I took it I got a really bad headache but that isn't a problem any longer. I personally think it has to build up in your system. When I take it erratically, I do not feel appetite suppression or evergy either.

Oof, I haven't checked this thread in a while, so this might be too late to help, but here's what the label says:
"If you have a medical condition (especially diabetes or being treated for glucose control)...consult your health care practitioner before using this product." Plus the usual about being pregnant etc...but I have *many* bottles of vitamins & herbs around, and most do not include warnings about diabetes. I have diabetes and all I remember is that it seemed to make me hungrier than usual. |

I wonder if my shaky feeling on my recent PDD was because of the ptero I took on an empty stomach and then carb loaded with potatoes? I had a nasty day but have not had that reaction on other DDs with ptero.

I bet so. I have only had one bad day on ptero and it was like a tension headache that some folks talk about. I am not diabetic, but if you take meds to control diabetes then ptero would really be doubling up on the lowering of blood sugar.

This is my second pterodactyl day..yestrdayI took 50 Mg at breakfast then another 50 Mg at lunch and today I took 250 Mg caps at breakfast. No headaches YAY! My tummy is making lots of 'processing' noises but that is pretty usual for an UD
