How did I miss this thread??? I was just asking questions about this in another thread yesterday!

I may have to order both of these b/c I am finding that I am getting hungrier on down days and I don't like it! So far UDs seem fine. Does anyone know if there are either the Pterostilbene or Resveratrol are no-nos with other meds?

LG~ the turtle always, always wins chiquita!!! XOXO

Flutter is there a Vitamin Shoppe in your town? I also heard someone say they found a resveratrol/ptero blend at Walmart.

I may have to retract my statement about not seeing any results but then I would forget to take it most of the time.
I have been taking two a day all week and I "think" I see a lessening of appetite. Already had plenty of energy. Any more and I would need something to calm me down.

I was so impressed with the fading scars (ptero & res seem to work synergistically with coconut oil used as a body lotion) that I doubled the dosage. Will let you know what happens.

Cindy, when I lost I averaged about two pounds a week. But when I average in the self-induced stalls and vacations, I averaged about .6 pounds/week. It's the journey!

So interesting about fading scars.... hmmm... ... yes, if good things happen on the outside where, in reality, we see so little of "ourselves", how much more must be happening on the inside. That would hold true for all SIRT beneficial helps, including (especially?) alternate day dieting.

My experience with pterostilbene was not profound, I didn't think. But when I stopped it, I realized I felt greater mid-afternoon hunger. That told me that perhaps I needed to rethink.

I'm beginning to think that if only one dose per day is to be taken, maybe I should take it about noon or 1, to try to intercept that mid-afternoon hunger.

Does anyone have an hour past which they would NEVER take it? (because of sleeplessness, etc.) Do you think the effects are greater in the hours after taking it, as I do, or is anyone convinced it's all about the build-up in the body, not the doses individually?

jaymar, that's a good theory - try the one that has good recommendations first, and that way you won't still have question marks if you don't feel it helps.

Agreeing with Carly and Babs that if I had to say which seemed to do more I'd probably choose pterostilbene. But then, as I said starting out, so much happens inside, we just don't know.

I am not sure if there is a connection but I have faithfully taken two pterostilbene per day since Sunday and I have lost weight this week although yesterday I was starving all afternoon BUT I skipped the afternoon ptero due to having a pretty severe headache and didn't want to make it worse.
Whitlin' I am thinking it builds up since just taking one every once in awhile when I would remember did not seem to do anything for me but consistency this week HAS made a difference.

I've only taken a 2nd pill about 5x, but I'm sure it helped on those days. I think I would not take it after 1pm since I like to go to bed around 9pm and I get a good deal of energy from it.

I started taking the ptero last wednesday...just one at a time..had a bit of a headache yesterday and also today...it may be the congestion meds I'm taking as I get over that awful flu..I'll keep taking it for a while, maybe I can tell after a couple of more weeks how it's affecting me..I'm sensitive to a lot of things..so Im gonna keep it at one until I see I can handle it ok..

For about 6 weeks, I've been taking resvertol and 1 Jarrow ptero pill together every day, and I think that they help me with appetite suppression. I hadn't thought about taking a second ptero pill if I get very hungry DDs (which usually happens late at night, if at all); I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for sharing your experiences, everyone.

I would not take the 2nd pterostilbene late in the evening however. If you want to take a 2nd one I would try in the afternoon and see if it helps you out later, but it may disrupt your sleep if you take it at night- YMMV.

I'm sure they do, Dawn. It's normally 12.99, so get it soon while it's on sale if you can. Look in the supplements section, next to the other vitamins. It is not in the weight management section (on the other side of the vitamins in my Walgreens).

Good to know, LG!

Is 50 mg the recommended dosage?

I still can't find anything about taking it with other meds. Hoping it's ok w/ GERD meds.

I seem to have settled down with this one. Either that or I am so sleepy with the January blues it's the only thing keeping me awake. So I'm not getting the over stimulated feeling.

I wouldn't take it past 6.00 pm though or you might well find sleep eludes you.

Ptero has been tested as being safe at 200 mg/day.

Resveratrol gets used up quickly. Ptero is a much slower burn. I am taking them both (250 mg/Res, 100/mg Ptero twice a day). But, if you have to chose between them, Ptero is less expensive and sticks around in the system doing it's thing longer.

After the scars started fading I doubled my doses. Dang if some wrinkles are reducing. I have taken the second dose as late as 03:00 PM. But then, I have not noticed an energy boost. I always sleep deeply and well (unless I am obsessing about something).

Nancy, I'm loving your results. Scars fading and wrinkles reducing! As much as I burn myself trying to use flat irons and curling irons, I need some scars to fade, lol. Wrinkle reduction would be amazing. I just took my first one and chewed it up. It was bitter and then I read the instructions that said let it dissolve. I will report back my results later.

ETA: I was really annoyed with a young woman at a place here in town called Healthy Food Store. I called and asked if they carried ptero (before I found it at Walgreens), and she had never heard of it. While we were on the phone she googled it and said, it's a chemical derivitive of reservatrol and we wouldn't carry it. We only carry natural stuff.

Aw, please don't be too annoyed with her...I worked at a couple health food stores where the owners had certain standards...only organic foods, only certain vitamin lines that they felt were good quality...one place wouldn't carry Solgar or Twinlab, although they would special order it for customers. People called in all the time looking for trendy stuff or something they'd heard about on Dr Oz, and my bosses wouldn't order it til they researched it. *Even* if they thought it might sell well, they wouldn't put it on the shelves if they thought it might be ineffective or harmful.

I understand your annoyance, and she might have been wrong about this particular product--it's a compound *similar* to resveratrol, not derived from it--but IMO it means that they actually care about their customers & they're *not* just trying to take all your money.

If you want to take the trouble to educate them a little bit, ask if they carry the Life Extension line (very reputable and respectable brand); they make a product called pTeroPure.

(You may wish to buy the Jarrow or some other cheaper brand, but Life Extension puts out a magazine that the owners might be familiar with.)

I also know that health food store owners/workers can come across as a bit snobby or judgmental...there's so much misinformation out there about what's healthy...but I know at a couple places I worked, if a customer called or came in asking about something we hadn't heard of or didn't "approve" of (), we would say "we don't carry that, but we might be able to special order it for you" instead of turning them away.

Thanks, Jenny. I'm not *too* annoyed with her, lol. I doubt I will think much about it after this post. I understand what you mean about "trendy" things coming and going and how it wouldn't be good for them to stock every "new" thing. I won't try and educate her though, as I'm sure she will learn more about it in the coming year.

Librarygirl you always have such good avatar photos. Also just now getting the bird theme in both ticker and avatar, Flutter, Melinda.

Jenny, you are a kind person to try to think that through. I felt some irritation to hear about the "artificial" bit, too, but then, there is no entity out there that doesn't bug us similarly sometimes, from car repair places to dr's offices.

Thanks for the updates, Nancy, and the expertise. Wrinkles are not necessarily reversible, but definitely changeable and can be eased through nutrition, so it makes sense! I know that Dr. Mercola has some articles on ubiquinol (CoQ-10) in which he says he suspects ubiquinol of easing wrinkles. Dr. Perricone says eating enough fish or taking fish oil will help. I've read some opinions that astaxanthin will ease them (oh...sometimes found in fish, come to think of it).

Are you still feeling it, mamadodge, Jenn?

Spring is coming, Stargazer! The winter blues don't linger long after things start budding.

I should follow dawnyama to Walgreens. I usually don't mind sublinguals (under the tongue meltaway).

Go for it Whitlin' LOL. I bought 2 boxes!!! I left one for someone else. It was on sale, so how could I only get one box???!!! I first went in and found another box by the same company that was $20, but upon further searching found what Library was talking of. I took one immediately and another at 3PM. Haven't noticed much yet, but then again today was my 1 working day so I was busy anyhow. I will get a better sense to how it does tomorrow and the following days (when I don't work).

Dawn, I bought only one box, but I bought some of the Resveratrol, too.

Whitlin, yes on my birds. I tried to stick with one critter while I'm newer here. I thought it might help. (since I am often thrown when people change their avatars and signatures! I'm slow!)
