Hi, everyone. I would like to officially file my report re: my first DD -- lol. Well, so far so good. I aimed for 500 calories and think I've actually ended up at something more like 550 (due to some stuff like sf jello and milk in my coffee). So not too bad -- but I hope those 50 aren't going to mess me up too much. I HAVE been hungry at various points throughout the day, but nothing unmanageable. Also, I always had a meal or snack coming up, so I could do something about it easily. I've eaten my last meal of the day, which was a piece of fish and some steamed broccoli. I actually felt a little over-ful for a few minutes after eating it! lol Anyway, I don't feel extremely full and satisfied right now (it's about 8:16 -- I go to bed at 10:30) -- but I don't feel awful, cranky and hungry either. Do you guys agree with the sentiment that the first few downdays are the worst? I hope so, because if this is the worst it will get, I really think I can do this!

Sounds like you did great! Since this is only my 11th day it's not a lot of experience, but I do have to say that today was my easiest DD yet. I don't know if it's the JUDDD Magic kicking in, or I'm just learning more about what works for me. Maybe both. But whatever, I would be very happy if most of my DDs go like this from here on. |

Lainey I really think you have got this beat! If you can do this through the terrible heat you are having there think how easy it will be by the autumn? Not too long to wait for your official weigh in and i am confident that you will be doing the Happy Dance. I love your smiley face there.
Deen, most of us find the first few the toughest, but I was a bit like you and did pretty well from the first day. I generally enjoy my DDs as it feels good knowing they are getting the JUDDD magic to work. Well done. You too Marlamp, great job.

Definitely on a JUDDD high around here. Today is my 2nd DD and I feel well prepared and good to go! Had a successful UD yesterday - opted not to eat a truly heinous salad from Ted's Montana Grill - and came home and fixed myself something I really wanted, had a small treat AND stayed under my UD calories!
![]() Trying to psychologically prepare myself for the bouncy scale phenomenon, but after my 1st DD I was down to 285.6 and this morning after my UD I was at 284.8 which was nice to see! So far so good! |

Hi, Illinoisnanny -- I'm not an expert, by any means (I'm a newb, myself) -- but JUDDD is a way of eating where you alternate the number of calories you have each day. Usually it's something like 500/2000 on alternating days. The 500 calorie days help you lose, obviously, the 2,000 days keep your metabolic rate up. There are many health benefits associated with this way of eating, in addition to weight loss. Some people count carbs on both days, some only on "down" days, some not at all. Hope that helped -- good luck! There are a couple of "what is JUDDD?"-type of threads on this board that are a lot more comprehensive.

Hi to all.
I have just discovered that 1/2 a small banana, a full glass (10 ozs or so) of ice (I have the fridge ice dispenser) and a small 4 or 5 ozs skim milk and a TBLS of Truvia Stevia makes a very large very thick milk shake that taste like a lot more banana and milk was used. It is amazing as this is a perfect DD filling think to have and the blender is well over half full and I enjoy this treat so much that I often have it on up days and now with the tiny amount of ingreds. I can be very happy that it hardly cost anything at all. I do a big shake morning and then again at a hour or so before bed as I cannot sleep unless my tummy is happy. PLEASE do yourself a favor and try this drink. I tried it with frozen cherries and did not like it at all so use the banana. Oh, when I am not out of it and can remember to buy it I add vanilla as well.... OMGosh, I made one with coconut milk, ice and Stevia and THAT one was to die for but I have not done it again as I did it on a UD and did not pay attention to the calories but will do that one again as well.
OH, I LIVE ALONE SO A HAND OF BANANAS GOES VERY QUICKLY BLACK ON ME SO I PEEL THEM ALL AND CUT THEM IN HALF AND FREEZE ON A TRAY THEN PUT THEM IN A BIG BAGGIE OR TUPPERWARE. So handy to always have them available.

Hi there, here is a link WHAT IS JUDDD? COME INSIDE AND SEE!! that should make it clear.
I thought someone already gave you this earlier too. ![]() Cahira, I am pleased that you haven't seen a big bounce after your first UD, always makes it easier. You are doing great. Love the sound of your shakes Lainey, though I am not a great one for them myself, and our UK weather is certainly not warm enough to need the cooling properties of the ice... ![]() Slimnana, I think you are very brave sticking with the shakes for your induction, most of us needed real food. ![]() |

My first Down Day was apocalyptically bad. The second one was not quite as horrible. And the third one finally started to be manageable. I have never had another DD like the first one, but they haven't evened out. Some are easy. Sometimes, like yesterday, I feel absolutely terrible. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it other than that I tend to lose weight after the especially terrible ones :P |

My UD plan
I will be eating 5 meals of 300 calories each from the wide variety of healthy food choices in SB, for a total of 1,500 max. So far, I'm loving the simplicity in JUDDDing, while trusting in the process that its magic will soon be working for me too!

SlimNana, with your stats, I got 1669 as your recommended UD calories. You're absolutely able to start lower if you want, but I would recommend trying to get closer to your UD calories, so your body will definitely come out of the stress response of the low DDs. I am hypothyroid too, and eat up to my UD calories consistently, and it's working great for me.
Dr. J does say that you should eat to satiety, and that you don't HAVE to eat all your UD calories. That IS true, but several here have found that weightloss slowed or stalled when they ate too little. Everyone's different, and my advice was unsolicited, so I won't be offended if you tell me to mind my own business. ![]()

My down day yesterday was not too shabby--I'm very surprised! Managed to stay under 400 (but I kinda cheated by going to bed pretty early!)
Had a bit of stomach upset today--wonder if it's from the lettuce and tomatoes I had the night before, or if it's protesting the amount of food I'm eating today? hmm. Going to try Chinese for dinner tonight....been so freakin' long since I've had General Tso's Chicken. I'm afraid to overeat! |

No need to over eat, you can have it again the day after tomorrow! Bring some home and enjoy it for breakfast on you next UD.
Well done on our good DD, hope your tummy settles down soon. |

![]() My two day total still comes out to be 2,000 max., for an average of 1,000 daily. That's the daily total that I've been stuck at eating on SB for the past few years, and I've not been able to lose below my current weight of 155. So I shall have to just trust the process and wait to see if JUDDD is hopefully the answer to my prayers. ![]() Last edited by SlimNana; 08-21-2012 at 12:51 PM.. |

It will probably work out just fine with the numbers you have listed. If you aren't losing well, though, crazy as it seems, try increasing your UD calories. I know it sounds
, but it's happened lots around here, where we had to eat MORE to lose. What a rough WOE! ![]() |

![]() I'm sure after I recuperate from my upcoming hip replacement surgery, and I'm able to get back to working out again, that I should be able to raise my calories on my UDs to reach my goal weight by the end of the year! ![]() I'm looking forward to JUDDDing my way through the holidays in my size 6 skinny jeans! ![]() Last edited by SlimNana; 08-21-2012 at 02:31 PM.. |

Hanging in there and doing well. I think the DD's are easier than the UD's so far. On the down days I eat 600 calories, and just do it. On the UD's there are so many choices! I keep having to remind myself that I don't have to eat everything on any given UD - I always have more UD's down the road that I can squeeze stuff in!

Yes, it takes a while to get your mind around the freedom of an UD.

Checking-in for the first time
Hi. I just heard about your group and joined today. I started doing alternate day eating about 10 days ago. I have had 5 down days and have lost 4 lbs already. I am very excited.
I haven't been extremely strict. I am only counting calories on down days and have gone as high as 800 cal on those days. I have no idea how much I am eating on UD but it isn't any more than I was eating before so probably less than 1800. I am trying to be better this week. Yesterday I only had 379 cal. And I had a way too big portion of carob covered almonds today. I started following the Blood Type O diet about 3 weeks ago as well so am doing mostly low carb. I have been eating a lot more protein and veggies since dropping wheat, corn, and potatoes. I do still eat some rice and sugar since that is allowed for Os but my carb intake, when I was tracking my calories, was usually under 150 a day. I miss dairy though. Now I just need to focus on exercise. I am just happy to be (slightly) under 200 lbs for the first time in 2 years. I did get down to 180 in 2009 with the No-S diet and a kidney infection. It took a while to put the weight back on and I don't know why I wasn't able to stick with No-S. This is similar so I hope to do better. Instead of 5 days of deprevation, I only have 1 at a time. I look forward to chatting with you all. Amber |

WELCOME new people!
I am looking forward to fall and winter for tons of soups for DDs and UDs. A supermarket near me does a stuffed peppers soup that is so yummy that I plan to make VATS of the stuff using very lean ground round, brown rice and of course the peppers, onions and toms. I do not have a microwave but it will re-heat easily on top of the stove from frozen. I use DDs foods for UDs but double or even triple the portion sizes. JEEPERS, I love JUDDDING.
BACK to my gardening. |

Hi all, back home and having my first down day after 5 days away from home, trying to do moderate day and then UD. I didn't weight, didn't want to know. I feel much better today, love the control of a DD! So far only 265 calories and not hungry. I was expecting it to be much worse than it has been.
