BMI Milestones

I love how Dawn has "no longer obese" in her signature! Even though the BMI may not be a perfect measure, I found the categories and thought even the "obesity categories" are interesting milestones. I will be excited just to get out of the "morbidly obese" category. Not so far to go, and I'm down three BMI points since I started at the end of May.

18.5 or less Underweight
18.5 to 24.99 Normal
25 to 29.99 Overweight
30 to 34.99 Obesity (Class 1)
35 to 39.99 Obesity (Class 2)
40 or greater Morbid Obesity

WOE: Whatever plan keeps me around 150 lbs!
I just checked out where I started, because I honestly didn't pay attention to the levels of obesity until I had lost quite a bit~the ostrich effect, I call it.

In October of last year, I was at 39.8, so just a teeny tiny smidge under "morbidly" obese. That was NOT my high weight, which I hit when I had my daughter in 2004. I was about 20 pounds heavier than my October start weight, so I'm positive I was over the line into the morbid category.

I still have 28.6 pounds to go to get to the very top of the "normal" range. I think it's good to have milestones, whether they are weight numbers, dress sizes, or BMI indicators. Great idea!

Chris: Three points lower in such a short time is amazing! You are doing great and KUTGW!!!!!

According to the BMI chart in my doctor's office, I need to lose 17 more pounds to get to the high end of the "normal" range. But, according to Jorge Cruise's chart, the Dukan website calculators and others that take into consideration age, gender, frame size (which I think should be a factor but is not in many generic charts) I only have to lose 9 more pounds to be considered "normal" and "healthy".

The most important thing is that we are going in the right direction and getting healthier every day!

I am currently at a 26 and from what I figured, I need to lose 6.2 more pounds to be at the VERY top of normal. When I started I was 28.4 BMI. 164 puts me at normal for my height and I would like to get to 158 or so! It is nice to see, like today when I gained a pounds, where I was and where I am now....

So I went to the Dukan website and entered my information. According to the site, my "True Weight" which is supposed to be a realistic, healthy, and maintainable weight, is 185. If I sign up today, and follow the plan, I can achieve and maintain my true weight by 12/21/12.

It's just as I thought . . . if I ever reach goal, the world IS going to come to an end! Darn Mayans!

Chris, down three BMI points is wonderful!

I started at 30 and am now at 23.3. I agree, even though those numbers are averages, each point is a milestone.

And now I have this vision...looking at the solar system from deep space. Mars and Venus are wobbling in their orbits. Where Earth should be there is only clutter and shards - debris from the sudden explosion that terminated our existence. Echoing in the void, we hear the last sound made by humanity: Dawn's voice shouting "I made it! I made it! I m..." Silence falls.

I'm approx. BMI of 24 and I'm happy to be in the normal range. I'd like to be in the middle of the range (22 or so) for "safety" sake... I need to lose about 15 lbs.

I'm so glad, and you deserve to feel *great* about your accomplishment! It's not fair that men just lose faster

I am so motivated to see how many people have moved from the 40s or 30s down into the 20s. Thats *huge,* and I'm determined to follow in those footsteps!!

I have his book, "The 3-Hour Diet" and it's on page 129. It used to be posted on line and you could Google it, but i just tried and it's not there.

Anyway, I looked up 5'3" 35+ years old and it says 119-152 is a healthy weight range for you. . Just looked up 5'9" and it's actually 142-183 healthy range. So, I must have looked at 5'8" for me before.

I also just noticed that he sites the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as the source of this chart.

BTW: If anyone else wants to know your number according to this chart, let me know and I'll tell you what it says if you don't have his book.

Just looked at an on line BMI chart and according to that one, I've gone from 34 at my highest weight of 230 to 27.5 at current weight. It is a bit different from the BMI chart in my doctor's office.

I just looked at the copyright and it's 2005 in the book. That must have been around the time I went to a WW meeting and the leader weighing me in asked how tall I was. She was tall too. When I told her how tall I thought I was she said, "We better measure your height. You look taller than that."

That's the first time, after she measured, that I found out I'm actually 5'9" and not 5'8"!!

I have had the 178 number in my head and I'm glad I got the book out today because I have a 5 pound allowance on top of that for my extra inch. (well, and the fact that I'm over 35!) I'm claiming it! Heck, if it was good enough for a guru like Cruise and also for U.S. HHS to post on a chart, my new "first" goal is going to be 183 which is soooooooo close!

Now I feel better. I feel like someone just gave me permission to say "I feel good! I'm almost there!" Wooooo-Hooooo!!!
