Could I get your opinion on calling permanent goal?

Plugging in my numbers to a BMI calculator, I am told I'm at the very high end of normal BMI, and gaining a pound or two would put me over the top. However, my cheeks are getting really hollow and my bones are starting to stick out all over the place. If you were me, would you call goal and be done with it?

YOU get to decide what your goal appearance and weight is going to be. Don't put a whole lot of faith in a BMI calculator. That is only set up to give us the averages, but may or may not reflect you accurately. At the same height and weight, there can be an enormous variance among us all.

When you are happy with your size, you're at goal. For some of us that may be quite a few pounds above some figure a calculator gives us.

It sounds like you are done with the weight loss part of your *diet* and are ready to start your forever phase.. maintenance. Good for you! Congratulations!

And you can look at it from this point of view as well... it won't hurt you at all to just take awhile and bide at this weight. After you are accustomed to your look at this weight, you can always go down a bit more if you want to. Or not. But you get to be the one to decide that.

How exciting for you. Enjoy your maintenance! It's even more fun than the weight loss phase because, although you aren't seeing that downward movement on the scale, you are getting to increase your calories a bit to prevent further weight loss, and that's pretty fun.

A calculator has no vote. You have all the votes. Think about potential - do you see potential for a better appearance by losing more weight? Do you see potential for better health? If you don't, then it shouldn't be a priority because this is one of those decisions in life that is all about you.

I tend to think of body-confidence in terms of a back-and-forth relationship between weight loss and toning up through exercise, and when I'm happy with one I work on the other. In your position, I might concentrate on toning/firming now and consider weight a success. But that's just me - I always need the firming!

My goal weight is 149 and I'm like you in that I'm wondering about more loss. I chose that number a few years back because it was "under 150", and a weight that I've always considered healthy for me. When I reach it again, I'll need to consider whether there's potential for a better appearance to match health. I have some trusted voices that are suggesting a little more weight loss, so I'll think about it.

Hugs to you - I'm so impressed!

Thank you for thoughtful responses. I'm happy where I am, so yes, I'm calling goal. Yee Haw! I came to JUDDD at 161 in March - having been stalled at that number on lc for 3 months. I'm so thrilled I found a post in the main forum about JUDDD. I would encourage anyone lc or moderate lc, as I am, to keep posting in that forum so that others can come over and find the magic of JUDDD!

I kept changing my goal. LOL Originally had set it at 139 and now I'm down to 117 as of this a.m. I thought anything below 120 would be too thin but I'm liking it here. I'd suggest trying to maintain awhile where you're at and see how you feel about it in a few weeks. It may just take awhile to get used to your new look and it may be just the right weight for you. Only you can decide that....not some calculator.

Congratulations on calling "GOAL"!!

I have found several articles online (and seen comments in the maintenance thread) that say for about a year after most people stop trying to actively lose weight, their body fat/shape continues to change. I think going into maintenance mode, learning to live there, and waiting awhile to see what happens as those nomadic little fat cells set up housekeeping in new neighborhoods makes a lot of sense.

I am so happy for you!!

I'm so happy for you! And how wonderful that you've decided to call goal based on how you feel and look, rather than the old charts. You are a wise woman!

Congratulations on making it to goal! Be sure to post in our Maintenance Lane thread. Sometimes, it can be tough to wrap your head around finally be in maintenance, and talking it out sure does help.

Also, what Kathy said. I changed my goal after maintaining at my original goal for a while also. It helps to stop, regroup, and just BE that weight for a time. And yes, your body will continue to shift and change, even if you don't drop another pound.

So settle in, relax, and see how you need to adjust the calories to stop the weight loss.

WTG!

I agree that you can change your mind at any time. This doesn't have to be an all or nothing decision. Stay here for a bit and then re-evaluate when you feel like it.

I am smack dab in the middle of my BMI...and while I set that as my goal weight, I beginning to think I am still too big. My reasoning is that I do a lot of activities and I should be "leaner"...and I also remember an older woman posting here saying that she was really glad that she lost another 10 lbs as it makes a difference when you are older to your mobility...

Congrats on all your hard work!!!

Kissa, This is so easy and actually tastes so fresh and low cal. Plus you don't have all of the junk additives that are in jar dressings.

Ranch Dressing

1 clove garlic, very finely minced
1/2 Tsp salt
1 C Hellmans Light Mayo
1/3 C Buttermilk****
2 Tbsp fresh parsley, minced very fine
2 Tbsp fresh chives, minced very fine
1 tsp white wine vinegar (I tried another kind of vinegar, but didn't work as well as white wine vinegar).
Fresh ground pepper to taste.

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly with a whisk to make a creamy dressing.

**** I add a little extra buttermilk. I think that only using 1/3 cup makes the dressing too thick.
