Not that I have one of those things anymore!!! But back in my canning days...lol...

I bought pickling lime & have tried different ratios of gluc/water to make the "slurry"; but then when I tried to boil the noodles, they just dissolved...repeatedly. Maybe I got a bum batch of pickling lime?
I have to let mine set up enough so that it doesn't dissolve. Almost to the point of having problems injecting the mixture into the boiling water. Then it worked perfectly. There is kind of a fine line there.

Ah...so you let it sit for a while after you mix it? You don't just inject it into the boiling water right away?

just a note re gluc: It makes things moist if used correctly--

I have been using it to make sauces for lean meat. Mostly I use ground 99% ff turkey. I brown the turkey in chicken broth and spices and then sprinkle a tsp of gluc on the top and stir like mad.

As usual, gluc seems to "blandify" any flavours, so I am aggressive with the spices and I stir in some acid at the end to brighten things up (e.g., ACV, ginger juice, lemon, etc). I made curried turkey today using a handmaid curry mix and topped it with that awesome curry salsa found at Whole Foods (The Brooklyn Salsa Co).

I encourage you all to experiment--it is a nice use for the gluc

I like Jay Robb. You can get whey or egg white protein. No weird ingredients and it is sweetened with stevia. I think it is 110 or 120 cals per scoop, but it is a pretty big scoop and I don't often use the whole thing.

I like to mix it in things more than make shakes. One of my faves is cottage cheese, vanilla PP and strawberries. Add pecans on an UD. If you put the strawberries in frozen it travels pretty well for a couple of hours.

I also like cottage cheese, chocolate pp, a little extra dark cocoa and sweetener whipped up with a hand mixer. Mmmmm. A dash of cinnamon is good in it too.

No, I found out by trial and error that I had to let it sit for a bit or it just vanished in the boiling water. The time or two that I made the noodles, I really preferred them over the bought ones. Mine were thicker and had a nicer texture in my opinion. Of course, DH came in and asked if I was cooking fish although I could not detect any fish aroma.

Oh Yeah, I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that. It's now such a part of my routine that I forget to say it. After I mix the gell and put it into the noodler, I then start to boil the water. the time it takes to boil the water, the gel is setting up in the tube, getting firmer and firmer. that's about6-10 min. Yeah so I do let the gel sit before injecting it into the water, Sooner and it's too soft, later and it's too hard to press.

I just use 1/2 teaspoon of glue powder in a pumpkin/almond milk shake. Knowing that it's now thinking in my stomach, I fear that was way too much?

Unfortunately the directions are very unclear.

Should I be concerned? And lots of water or I'll get stopped up?

Is Netrition the best place to by gluc? Is it available anywhere else?

I still have low carb things I bought but never used...I tend to be a purist...

I can buy Shirataki at Whole Foods, but rather expensive and 40 cals for the small pouch it comes in. I think it has tofu in it. Anywhere else to find it? I like it, but not being a big pasta person, don't use it a lot. I am just experimenting to see if it helps hunger on DDs.

I get Miracle Noodles (no tofu) through Amazon. I'm also an Amazon prime member, so free shipping and they come quickly. Got my gluc powder there, too.

Still wondering the right amount of gluc powder for a shake. Anyone?

#1 My bottle is from NOW Foods.
It's available at most sites/stores that sell vitamins.
(However, some places don't carry that brand.)

#2 Approx $1.99-$2.79 per package seems to be the going rate.
I've seen the noodles at health food stores & I've started seeing them at local grocery stores, refrigerated in the produce section (by the tofu). Some/most of these brands have tofu in them.

I usually get mine at an Asian market; they don't have tofu in them, and are lower/zero calorie. Also, they have an interesting variety of shapes. But they're still $2/pkg.

Sounds like a reasonable amount. I've heard of people having a reaction when they first start & use a whole teaspoon, so 1/2tsp seems like a good place to start. Did it bother you in any way?

Any Asian grocers will have it. I get them for very inexpensive, and zero calories.

ETA: PJ beat me to it.

PJ, I thought it might bother me for a few minutes, but I was fine. Sill did my pysllium husk as well. (Dang, can never spell that word.) And how funny that I wrote the powder was "thinking" in my stomach. At least there's some thinking going on in one of my organs.

Amazing stuff, gluc. Where has it been all my life?
