Normal in the windows

This might sound silly. It was not that many months ago when I was walking past shop windows in Santa Monica and caught sight of my reflection. O.M.G. that couldn't be me. Am I really that huge? Have any of you ever experienced that?

Well, late last night after a tiring day and delayed flights we arrived at the Sacramento airport in the new terminal. I was walking along pulling my wheelie suitcase and hurrying to take the tram. There is a wall of windows and for a minute I thought someone was walking beside me. A tall, slenderish woman in capris. O.M.G. I realized it is me.

Wow. I intentionally looked. What a difference a few months make! And JUDD! I'm getting "slender".

We spent a long weekend with my son and his family. Loved being with our little 2 and 4 year old grandsons and my awesome DIL. Here is a picture of me with DH, DIL and the boys. (DS was the camera man). I'm in the middle in the brown t-shirt. I actually like seeing myself in photos now!!! Who knew that would ever happen??? For the last several years I've been deleting or cropping myself out of a lot of photos!!!

It is strange how we can often really "see" our progress when we look at photos. Great picture of you with your family! Also fantastic that you noticed that nice tall slenderish lady at the airport!

Delightful children, looking so happy. Little one looks like you.

I always approach a windowed entrance to a large building in such a way that I can "see myself from a distance", which of course is so hard for us to do. (It's not that we don't have mirrors, but we can't see what family and friends see when we walk along or are across a lawn or large room.) I'm so happy for you that you got to see a "side of yourself" you don't often see, and that you looked so sharp!

Whitlin: Awwwwwww....thanks!! We have 5 grandchildren and they are all so gosh darn beautiful. It's such a miracle to be able to see a little bit of ourselves in them.

I loved "seeing a side of yourself you don't often see." So true! I remember Oprah talking about that once. She thought a fat woman was following her. then she realized it was a reflection of her own self in the store front windows. Always makes me giggle when I think of it.

Thanks, Vanilla!!! Just as important, I feeeeeeeeel great! I was on the floor playing with the 4 year old grandson. DIL wanted me to pop up so she could show me a sun dress she just bought. Couldn't believe the ease when I "popped up" from the floor. I mentioned to her how much easier it is to get up from playing with the grandies now that I'm lighter and it was such a great NSV to realize that. My knees used to kill me, especially on hard woods like they have. There are so many benefits to getting lighter.

I have very, very few pics of me from the last several years. I've been the photographer, on purpose. The rare occasion I did have my pic taken I've cropped myself out, too. I'm not very photogenic to begin with and being so fat on top of it, the pics would send me into a deep funk.

So glad to hear you had a nice visit with your family!

Yam - isn't it a wonderful feeling. I once was in a store and in the corner of my eye thought I was about to bump into someone so I said OUT LOUD, excuse me. It was my own reflection in the mirror...I didn't recognize myself!

Love this, Yam Yam. You ARE slender - and I can see it in that pic of you with your lovely family.

I also have strategically cropped or deleted myself out of pics too, so I know what you mean. You won't be doing that anymore!

My 35 y.o. Son shaved his gray.

I was kind of shocked to notice my "baby" (age 32) have one gray hair in her eyebrow. Just wait until she wakes up and I tell her! (She's been in the hospital under heavy sedation since Friday... They stopped the meds this afternoon. She be waking up soon.)

Best wishes for your baby!

My baby, who happens to be 7 (yes 7!) has 3 gray hairs.

I started going gray in my late teens/early twenties (I'm about 60% gray and not yet 40), so I guess I know where she got it. I tell her she's so smart that her brain works extra hard on her thoughts and just can't be bothered with such trivial things as keeping her hair pigmented!
