Perspective

I've written a few long posts on this board about my history and about my experiences with JUDDD, the latter being almost entirely positive. When I gave my one week review of this eating plan, which I thought might be helpful to others similarly situated to myself, I tried to be as objective as possible while also giving my subjective experience.

I have described experiencing hunger as pain. I have also described a different hunger as not being painful. When I describe it in these terms, I am describing the experience as it happens to me and in no way intend to dismiss other people's perspectives.

In my life I've had major surgery. It hurt. Before and after. So when I talk about physical pain, I tend to use that as my measure for the upper range of pain. At no point do I ever forget that what I describe is not the kind of hunger pain experienced by, say, people who are starving in far away countries or even in our own. And I am always aware that I'm ridiculously fortunate and that there are other, worse pains than hunger.

In my life, I have been fortunate enough not to have lost a spouse or a parent or a child. Not yet, anyway. The scale of that kind of pain--that kind of grief--is unimaginable to me, but I am aware that there are people here who have suffered it or are suffering it.

Down Days are getting easier for me. Not because I'm getting used to them, but because the actual experience is changing for me. And that's a good thing.

I'm new to JUDDD and I'm working it the best way I know how. Communicating what I'm thinking and feeling along the way has been of great help to me and I hope, some help to others, but I never want to discourage anyone from finding their path to their best selves.

Peace and love, friends.

Hey Steph, we totally understand what you meant, as we all use this sort of common language of hunger pains and different kinds of hunger and whatnot on a weight-loss board, so no worries about offending us. And we are so glad to have you here with us, my bud!

I love you posts Steph, and your use of language is very clear. Of course, all of have different experiences of hunger, but that is what they are, our own real experiences.

I am glad that things are going well. Keep posting often, it helps everyone.

We all learn from each other's experiences, and I value yours. I just hit 7 months yesterday, and it's refreshing to see similar and yet very different experiences than I had with the perspective of time thrown in for good measure.

I love reading your posts as well. Reading your thoughts reminds me of how I was thinking back when I started and it is great to be reminded of what it is like to be in those first few weeks. I think it was Phyl on this site that said JUDDD changes you and it is great to experience your journey with you. Thinking about hunger and discomfort (my word for my pain) is definitely one of the things this WOEing makes you think about.

Totally understood. Myself, I'm a sugar addict who is a reformed Low Carber because I have a honest addiction to sugar and need to temper myself. Even when I have access to food, a lot of times when my sweet cravings kick in I'm in pain and "hungry" but not really since all I want is sugar. Its physical pain and its not but its real enough to me

Believe me, it does get easier. I have finally figured out that its really less about hunger and more about food reallocation. You will eventually make it through your DD's with very little hunger but you have to find the food that gives you the most bang for your buck.

I, for one, was in no way offend by your use of the word pain. It is something that we all experience differently anyway. I'm in physical pain the majority of time, but have also become accustom to my pain. I can handle a great deal of physical pain and keep it moving, but emotional pain is more painful for me. I don't experience hunger as pain, but I know many people do. Our bodies and minds, for that matter are amazing creations and do change over time. I have enjoyed reading your experience this last week and reflecting on my own JUDDD experience.

It really is an adorable corgi! Coming from me that is a compliment as I still bear the scar of a Corgi bite from when I was 2...

Oh my!! Yes, we waited until my daughter was 5 1/2 to get ours and we picked the most mellow pup of the litter. When she is pogo-jumping and barking at our cat we sometimes ask ourselves, "What are those OTHER pups from the litter like if this is mellow?" I wanted a corgi my whole life . . . her full name is HRH Princess Buttercup. LOL

I just have to add a few more to show my baby off.

and one more for Kissa ("flat Buttercup" in London)

Apologies for the thread jack.

Edited to get these pesky photos to show up.

Thanks, Cindy! We were there for three weeks and did a lot of silly "Buttercup and London" photos. We will do the same when we go to Tokyo next month but it won't be as fitting as the Queen's dog in London. LOL!

I was there for three weeks last August--stayed right near the Gloucester tube in Kensington. My husband and I love London and always say we wish we could get a one-way ticket there someday.
