Here's What I Wish Today

I have this cabin on an island. No electricity, no running water, no people. Also no scales, no mirrors, no tight clothes. Just water, birds, books, and quiet. My sister visited for the week and we juddded together. She's just starting and I wanted to make her start easy and fun. I shopped for it and cooked for her. I brought her sparkling lemon-lime drinks on the deck. We talked about the challenges and about how unbelievably good juddd has been to me. We had a blast.
What I wish is that I could offer that to anyone who is struggling at any point with JUDDD: those early, tough DDs, the crazy binge UDs (even the struggle to eat up to UD cals, although I don't identify with that AT ALL), and the days/weeks when the scale will not move.
I think the island gets me through a lot of that.
I understand this can only be a virtual fantasy, but for whatever it's worth, if anybody's having a tough time today, you're welcome to sit on the deck at the cabin while your tough day passes. I'll pour you a sparkly drink.
Happy day everyone. :heart::)

:hugs: Awww... thanks!

You are such a sweet sister! I love the idea of your cabin, well except for the no running water and no electricity part ;) Do you live here all the time or is this your getaway place?

Joyjoy 07-09-2012 05:38 AM

Star, I spend about half the summer there. Heaven on earth. :)

I see you are in Canada. What type of weather do you have there? I could probably do without electricity if it wasn't extremely hot weather like it is here. It's been in the low 100s here for a while now with some occasional high 90s thrown in here and there. The humdity here is awful too. It's way too hot not to have AC. Yesterday, it got down to 80 cause we had some rain :)

What do you do for water? Do you have a pump well?

I'm sure it's a great place to be and to be able to get away from everything must be wonderful. I would probably write a book :)

I am so in with this virtual fantasy, EXCEPT I need flushing toilets and electricity! I enjoy blow drying my hair daily! ;) The rest, I am so there with you!

Magic post, sounds like a magic place.

Whitlin' 07-09-2012 07:08 AM

I'm sure the best part for your sister was you caring about her.

Kristen -

Wow! That sounds just wonderful! There is a place on the Tennessee side of the Smoky Mountains (it's one of the "Quiet Walkways") with some huge flat rocks out in the middle of a river. I love this place because if you time it right you can see no other people and hear nothing except the river rushing past. No cars, no planes, no anything. DH and I have gone there several times and had picnics in the river (on these huge rocks) and even (before we had kids) took a nap on the rocks once. It is the most peaceful place I've ever been. I love your idea and may have to conjure up that Quiet Walkway more often when I'm having a tough day. Sometimes we have to create our own peace. :)

Thanks for sharing your virtual cabin with us!
-Pookie

How amazing JoyJoy. I have come to a revelation about my relationship with food lately and it is eyeopening and not at all what I want to face but today is a DD and its going to be one of the best yet. What better place to work through all the mental issues that on a quiet cabin in the middle on an island. Even if I can't be there in person, its great mental relaxation just to know it exists

I'm at your cabin now, relaxing into my DD - thank you for the getaway! You are one awesome sister, everyone should be so lucky.

 :jumpjoy: on my way~ lol.. Well in my mind ill be there with ya.. it truly sounds like heaven to me too:heart:

FairyWren 07-09-2012 08:40 AM

Well, thank you so much for the invite! i'm not having a hard DD but i'm loving the idea of your cabin and i'm drinking my afternoon coffee with my eyes closed, imagining i'm sitting on your island :) Mmm i think i can hear the beautiful song of a Baltimore Oriole!

No electricity or running water - no problem! I spent 2 months in Ontario working at a bird observatory in similar conditions and loved it! - did have electricity though :) Just me and the birds for 18 hours a day - some days i had volunteers for 6 hours a day, but once they'd left that was it. Bliss!

Yam-Yam 07-09-2012 09:22 AM

That's awesome! What a great start for your sister.

Your cabin reminds me of several places we used to take our kids for week long family vacations years ago. My favorite was a cabin like that on Trinity Lake in northern CA. If you Google Trinity Lake, CA there is a beautiful picture of it.

Now for the rest of the story. Did you bring a scale? Did your sister love JUDDing? (How could she not with you being such a wonderful hostess!) Did she drop a few pounds yet and is she excited about continuing this WOE? Inquiring minds want to know more.

sunday 07-09-2012 09:38 AM

What wonderful treat for your sis! I wish I could run away to this play myself! :hugs:

Joyjoy 07-09-2012 09:38 AM

A few answers: we chop wood, carry water. It's stinking hot but we fall in and out of the lake all day so you forget it's hot. No scale, but she'd lost two pounds by the time she got home (yeah!). No hair dryers there, which is a departure, because she's a fashion queen: hardly knows how to walk when not wearing heels. And I think she went home feeling encouraged and confident about JUDDD.

Don't you think we all deserve to be taken care of when we're starting here?:)

Kissa 07-09-2012 09:45 AM

I so agree, that is why I love all of you supporting the Newbies the way you do.

You are a special person Kristin. Your Posting name suits you to a T.

Yes, yes, yes! :hugs: When I first came to the JUDD forum I felt like the JUDD BUDDs were taking care of me. There was always someone with a kind word and advice when I messed up. Then when I would beat myself up and wonder what was wrong with me, these great people would not let me do it! Again with all the  and :hugs: and kind words.

Now I feel like we all deserve to be taken care of all the time. That's why I recommend that we pamper ourselves on DDs. It's become one of the things that makes me look forward to a DD. As much as I can, I indulge myself in "me" time. Sometimes I go to the pool, sit under an umbrella and read a book or hang out with a friend. Sometimes I read entire books or watch a romantic movie. If the energy kicks in and I can't sit still, I organize something like a closet or some drawers.

But I definitely do things I like to do with absolutely no guilt because I deserve it and it makes my DDs so special.

Yay for your sis losing 2 pounds! Woo-hoo!:sing:

JHoberer 07-09-2012 10:02 AM

I'll bring a book and a hammock and some little toothpick umbrellas... :high5:

Kissa 07-09-2012 10:53 AM

I'll bring the ice and some vodka!

Sheridan 07-09-2012 10:59 AM

Kristin is a true gem.

And yes, her name here fits her perfectly!

CaTriGirl 07-09-2012 11:09 AM

I'm not having a rough day, but I SO want to be there! But with water and electricity! LOL

Yes & Thanks! :) I'm very comfortable with where I am at, but would like to lose 5 more if I can. I just can't do hcg anymore. (I also did it 2 yrs ago) I love how well it works but I am so over it! LOL So if I can lose it on JUDDD I will be super happy. But if I just maintain that will be ok too. I am excited to start, but want to do a few weeks of P3 first.

I just live the friendliness & support on this board!

I know, the support here is great, isn't it? Unlike any other board I've ever been a part of.

You should probably just start out at maintenance level. Several people here kept losing on maintenance and had to tweak to not lose any more. I hope I have that "problem" some day soon! When I get to 180 (I'm tall, muscular, broad shoulders, big bones, big feet and carry weight evenly) I'm going to eat at maintenance or just below for a month and see what happens. Then I'm thinking my ultimate goal will be 169. That's right at the top of my healthy weight range according to the BMI chart in my doctor's office. Right now I'm classified as "overweight". Blah.:p I hate BMI charts.
