Week 2 Newbie here! Yesterday was a complete bust but today is UD for me, so it will soften the cushion of yesterday's fall.

I think my biggest problem is eating with my DH because he is fructose intolerant. He is also a very picky eater and we eat out nearly every meal because he doesn't like food smells in the house. In a nutshell, we eat at McD's at least once a day. I was just on their website and found a couple of things I can eat on DD, which are 4 McNuggets and apple slices. I would have not been able to eat these on low carb!

Hello everyone...I started on June 25...so I am new here, and have been reading all the excellent information. I have been a member of LCF since 2000 ( I know...my profile says 2002, but some weirdness happened and it reset it to 2002.)
I lost 110 lbs on Atkins...kept it off for 3 years and then slowly the carb creep set in and I am back to 60+ lbs gained. I have tried over and over again to get back on the proverbial wagon, but just have never been able to do it.
So...I figured I would give this a try. I am really enjoying the great comraderie of this group (it reminds me of the earlier days of LCF). Thanks for letting me join you.
So far not a lot of difficulty in following the plan and I am losing weight so I am a happy camper.

Start weight-254.5
Todays weight-247

7.5 in 6 days.

We don't eat at home much either. If your DH likes Wendy's or Subway, there are decent DD options there. Subway is great. You can turn any sandwich into a salad (avoiding the bread calories) and I just have them put vinegar on for dressing. Or I bring my own low cal dressing. At Wendy's a small chili is 210 calories and surprisingly filling.

Hi all, First UD on JUDDD and first time poster. I'm not much of forum poster, but I've been lurking the past few weeks reading up on the posts. Congrats on the weight losses Vikki & Linda I also love the motivational posts & the wealth of info on here so i decided to jump on board.
Since may I've been doing a moderate carb (cant live without bread) 80-150g/1300 ish cals. I've already started to stall & my cals have dropped under 1000 so i usually give up @ this point & reach for the blueberry muffins. I want to give Juddd a try to keep up my cals as I cant exercise much & allow those extra treats on ud's to stave off the boredom.

Gonna give it a good try.

Welcome, y'all!

Sheridan's Helpful Hint For New JUDDD BUDDS:

Dig out a pair of pants that you can't fit into that you've hidden in the back of your closet; jeans or something similar is preferable. If that's not possible, go to a thrift/charity shop and buy a pair of pants that are somewhat too small to get into. Try those pants on frequently, especially if you show no downward movement on the scale. You will almost certainly be amazed at the changes your body is making even though you may not always see it documented on the scale. Pants are a much better tool to show progress than is the scale. As you are able to fit comfortably into the tight pants, go get another pair to use as a gauge.

Another thing is to go out and get a measuring tape and measure yourself right at the beginning and periodically retake those measurements. Very often you will find you're shrinking even though the scale doesn't show it.

I prefer using clothes as a progress gauge for a couple of reasons. First, we all wear clothes and we know when they're too tight, when they fit just right, and when they're too big. It's one thing to see a number (on the tape measure or on the scale), and another thing to 'feel' how our clothes fit. I don't know about you, but I get much more of a thrill when I can finally zip up a pair of pants and be able to breathe normally than I ever do over a number. I can't 'feel' the number but I can sure feel how my clothes fit.

Secondly, it's hard to take all the measurements one would need to take to show all the progress we've made. Sometimes we lose in the areas we haven't measured and wouldn't have ever thought to measure. The clothes show it, though.

Wishing you all every success for this wonderful, life-changing way of life! You can do this!

Hi Sheridan

Thank for the tips.. no significant movement on the tape measure front, yet my skirts feels a tad looser... strange that, well hopefully the losses so far will be some of that nasty visceral fat along with the water.

Welcome to all you Newbies, I was a Newbie just two months ago, and making pretty good progress. Scale stuck however at 6-8 pounds lost right now, same for the past two weeks, up and down, up and down...I say that to agree wholeheartedly with Sheridan about having smaller clothes to try on. I had barely lost 5 pounds and needed to one day run out for errands. I was just about to put on my usual stretchy denim capris when I thought **SIGH** maybe I'l TRY to put on my white capris to see if I can get them over my thighs. WHOA!!! They fit COMFORTABLY after zipping them, with no muffin top, AND I could sit down and breathe at the same time!! That was quite a lesson learned about putting too much faith in the scale number.

Best to all of you. Looking forward to each and every success!!

First off to all the newbies - Vikki80, Bronwyn, LindaD, DeeOne!!! One of my favorite thrills is seeing newbies join JUDDD and watching their progress!!! If you want, start posting on the July Weigh in Thread.

Loved Sheridan's, Dawn's and CactusRose's hints. Here's a few things I wish I knew when I started. Bronwyn - My DH and I eat out lots at fast foods. Most display calories now - so no problem counting. We'll often drive through say Taco Bell to get my favorite 350 calorie burrito, then go to McD and he'll eat his choice there, and I eat mine.

DDs were hard, till I settled on eating quarts of soup - veggies/ck broth/shirataki noodles. Search the DD recipe threads and find what works for you.

This is so important IMHO: DDs may be the big problem people don't start JUDDD and don't continue. If diet fatigue sets in, people blow the DD's - they think!!!! Go to the calculator and write out what your DD calories are at all the levels - 20%, 45%, 60%, etc. You'll see that if the HUNGER MONSTER attacks on a DD, you can eat A LOT and still be in WLM or Maintenance level. Ex: My DD 20% is 350 calories; 60% is 1018. Worst senario, just eat Maintenance level DD calories. Don't say you blew it, as if you are going "on and off" JUDDD. This will help you to eat "guilt free" and train you for JUDDD being a Way of Life not a diet you go "off and on". And hopefully you'll just Maintain a few days and not gain. Enjoying JUDDD is extremely important to make it your lifetime WOE. No more searching for new diets all the time. Hope something I said helps.

P.S. One more thing - I use to track cal online. If counting calories gets you weary, just estimate - I use a pad and pencil and scribble: fruit - 50 cal; bread 100; fat - 100. I don't quibble over different cal in fruit for example. Point being - WHATEVER makes JUDDD enjoyable and work for you, do it!

Hi! Since Bronwyn mentioned that sometimes we find ourselves needing to eat while out and Dawn had some thoughts, I thought I'd post the link to Subway's Nutritional table. Nutrition Information List | SUBWAY.com

I use Subway in two ways on DDs. I can choose the 6-inch Veggie Delight sandwich and enjoy the entire sandwich there for 230 calories - a do-able meal option. Or, I can carry my handy-dandy insulated purse (love it, looks like an ordinary black purse) with a freeze-pack inside and just bring half of a more caloric 6-inch sandwich home for the next day. When I do that, the tuna suits my purposes best at 235 calories per half, since it is lower in sodium than the cold-cut choices.

I have also attempted Taco Bell in a pinch. Most of the single tacos won't ruin a DD of course (watch out for the "double" ones!). But the Chicken Gordita, which to me is more like a meal and satisfies, is 270 calories and lower sodium than most of their menu.

(Subway almost always wins with lowest sodium if that affects you as much as it does me.)

Thanks for the everyone and for all the great tips!

I am going to keep it as simple as possible the first couple of weeks, but after that I will need more variety.

I do have a few of the older (smaller) clothes in my closet, but had given a lot of them to a friend. (hey, that way I can buy new when I need them!)
I will try my skinny jeans in a week or so.

Kissa - Oh, thanks for noticing! Those are the world famous Carlsbad, California Flower Fields - 50 acres of Ranunculus flowers. They're planted in large ribbons of color, purple, red, yellow, orange. Pretty spectacular to see in person! Very popular tourist site.

Well, how dumb am I? I lived in Orange County back in the late 60s and knew nothing about that. The things we miss when we are young and have a grumpy DH (since ditched for a lovely new version) and 2 small children.

Hi! I started in May but went on a week long vacation, gained 5-6 pounds and have been sort of maintaining those gained pounds since! Maintaining while eating what I've wanted isn't bad at all! Summers are very hard for me to lose weight b/c I like to partake in the endless events, festivities, bbqs, vacations, drinking, etc.

I've been on strict rotation since last Monday hoping to lose a few pounds before going on a 7-10 day road trip w/ DH. The scale is bouncing! UGH! Anyway, will def try to be as good as I can on my trip. We'll be doing lots of walking in DC & NY so hoping that will help. Will be drinking lots of water also due to hot weather and don't plan on endulging in too many empty calories drink wise while on the trip either. I may just try to eat LC as much of the trip that I can. However, I do want to try NY pizza and a true Philly Cheesesteak and such.

Once back from the trip I plan on trying to lose any gained on the trip and then hope to get into full weight loss mode in August or September once things calm down. Just knowing I can eat what I want on UD and DD aren't hard at all makes me think I can do JUDDD for life!! Love it!

Welcome to all the newbies! Wish you great success. I may try to check in while gone, if not, I'll check in when I get back on the 15th.

Natasha, you can make this work. I am in France and I am managing pretty well. I do know that I am producing the Sirtuin as I've been at this for almost 9 months now and that helps a lot.

Don't let the bounces bother you. Stick to your calories for the next few days and I am sure you will see a loss before you go.

Thanks Kissa! You're a great motivator! I went to the UK back in 2009 for a business trip. Visited South Shields & Bradford. I loved it although it was cold and snowing the entire time and it got dark at 330 evening! I endulged in the fish and chips served at the Hilton whilst there. The food was great!

P.S. It was funny b/c being from the South we LOVE SWEET ICED TEA. So my Boss ordered it at TGIF and they had no idea what we were talking about. So I told her to just get some hot tea, ask for a glass of ice and use the sugar on the table. They brought out this little tea pot, etc...It was so cute yet funny!

WOE: LC for life!
Hi Everyone!

I am a JUDDD newbie, but a long-time LCer. I find I have to be very on-plan or the weight creeps back on, like it did this past year. I whole-heartedly agree about using clothes as a measure not the %&* scale! Way more accurate and less likely to mess with my head!

I have been reading the boards for a couple months trying to incorporate JUDDD philosophy into my eating. I did an online calculator for awhile until I got the hang of amounts of calories in things. Now I kind of have my go-to meals set, thanks in part to the many GREAT suggestions for low cal DD stuff.

I have been on zero cal DD's for the last two weeks (black coffee, tea, water only). I find them easier to do than trying to stay at the DD limit. However, with TOM approaching, I am trying to cut myself some slack this week.

UD are ok, but I had to fight the urge to eat anything, just because I could! I now try to stay more LC, with permission to have some carbs, healthy or not!

I am so appreciative of all you here! It's nice to have someone who speaks my language of LC, you know? Great ideas and thanks for all the ideas and suggestions you've given me without even knowing it!

Yes, the differences are amazing sometimes. I lived in the Sates for a couple of years and could never grow to like iced tea. I was first introduced to avacados over there, I'd never seen one back then, mind you, this was in 1969.

Sometimes the language is a laugh too. I struggled for ages to buy a zipper once because I simply asked for a zip.
