Starting Today!

I did JUDDD for a week last August and then life got in the way. One thing after another and its now 10 months later and I'm the same weight. At Christmas I had eaten myself back to 210lbs, then I got back on low carb again and I got down to 196.4lbs.

I've been doing a lot of reading and thinking about food/diet lately and I realize that low carb works great for me if I want to stay in maintenance. I've got to cut calories to lose, but I've had problems with that as well. When I first tried to lose weight I was at 229lbs, lost 25lbs doing Somersizing then it slowed. So I decided to count calories and exercise. It took a year of 1400 calories a day, a 30min exercise tape and walking 4 hours every day to get down to my lowest 189lbs. We went on a 3 week trip and I never got back into the walking and calorie counting. I was just too tired. So I've pretty much maintained a 30lb loss for the last 6 years. Pretty good I think since I'm also hypothyroid and before that I was gaining every year.

Anyway, JUDDD has been in the back of my mind for the last few months. I'm hoping it will work for me. I see some that are hypothyroid and they seem to be having great success. I hope I'm one of them.

I'll be doing DD on M,W,F and UD on S,T,TH with a medium day on Saturday. I find the weekends too hard to do DD's. I'm going to keep the carbs at 75g or less. I just find my health better when I don't over do the carbs.

So I'm starting today and its a DD, I think it'll take some time to figure out whats best to eat on the DD's, but I've spent some time today looking at the DD low carb food ideas. It's really helped.

Jodi

Thanks for the welcome everyone! So far the Dd is going fine. I am hungry, but I'm holding out for dinner. I didn't really plan this ahead and I've got a higher calorie dinner planned. I've only got 5 hours to wait.

Arlene, I can only hope I'll have as much success in my first month as you have. I can't imagine being able to lose 11lbs in a month.

Hey Goose! I was just thinking that if you do get hungry before dinner, have an egg white. I always keep large hard boiled eggs in the fridge for emergency stomach growling. I buy organic brown eggs, so lots of times I eat the whole thing and it keeps me happy for hours.

Really a good buy protein wise. Egg whites are really the only 100% pure protein food on the planet. Good to ward off the hungry monsters.

Hi Dee, I'm on the Wet Coast! Where are you? I'm not sure if I'll weigh every day. I don't know if I could take the daily bounces.

I agree with Yam Yam. Those 18 calorie egg whites tide me over quite well and since I have my own hens that seem to be laying overtime, I use all the eggs I can.

Today I am on my second DD. So far so good. I'm down 3 lbs already. Egg whites have been pretty good to me as well. I made a pretty filling breaky from scrambled egg whites and veggies.

Oh.. I know! Doesn't it just stink?!!!

I remember the days of my earlier decades when I could just eat anything, whenever, whatever, however much... and remain slim. A diet was the farthest thing from my thoughts.

But now, I must. At least with JUDDD, I only have to be on a diet half of my days. And I get to eat whatever I want. I can do that.

I've done a DD today. I'll be doing a medium day on Saturdays. I just can't do a DD on a weekend. I know it won't work for me, so the best thing to do is plan a medium day and an up day. Dr J, does say in the book that it is fine to do that.

You have a plan, I know you'll do great. And there are so many good pointers and success stories here it really is a huge help. I did it awhile back, got sloppy, suffered the consequences and came back here to stay on track.

What the doctor does say is how important it is to stick to your rotations especially during the first two weeks. Some of us believe that it should be done for four weeks. I really don't mean to sound harsh but Juddd is like every other diet in one way. That is you will get out of it exactly what you put in to it. IMHO medium days are meant for the rare occasion not weekly. Those that do the rotations as close as possible " by the book" are generally more successful than those that " tweak" this woe a lot. And a MD every weekend is a lot. Once again just my opinion but doing MD right out of the gate seems like shooting yourself in the foot. As I've said before, I had one UUAD and it took me two weeks to recover from that one indiscretion. This is a woe that is centered on calories and the balance is more delicate than you realize. Unfortunately weight loss is not always convenient and we must learn how to work it into our lives. But we adjust our lives for the woe, we don't adjust the woe to suit our life. That is part of how obesity became apart of life to begin with. juddd is Juddd it is perfect as it is designed. It's not broken there is no need to fix it or change it. We are the ones who need to be fixed, we are the ones who need to change. It's a bummer, I know this But it is so worth it when you start seeing the results.

Made it through my first DD. It wasn't all that hard except I only had one cup of coffee. I had the worst headache by the evening. I'll make sure I drink a couple more cups on Friday. I'm glad I've been eating low carb for the last month. I think it helped.

Congratulations on making it through the first DD. Sorry about your headache. Did you remember to drink lots and lots of water? Maybe taking a multi-vitamin would be a good idea if you are going right into a total fast.

Since you are a veteran low-carber, I would recommend that, at least in the beginning, you eat some lean protein.

Many JUDDers start out at a higher calorie allowance on DDs. Some start as high as 35% or 45% and then ease into lower calorie days.

I'm worried about the headache! I just don't want you to get sick or feel bad. I feel fabulous on my DDs but I think I've only done a total 100% no calorie DD two times.

Just popped in to offer support and encouragement!

Thanks Yam, I'm positive the headache was not enough coffee. I usually have 4-6 cups. I needed to save the calories for dinner so I didn't want to use the cream. I had a deep fried Chicken breast with green goddess salad. So pretty fat heavy dinner. I'm made the dinner last night because my husband hates it and he's out of town. So the kids and I enjoyed it without him. Next dd I'll eat some eggs or tuna through the day and drink a little more coffee.

I plan on staying low carb. When I eat wheat I get a lot of joint pain and I just feel better all around. Also my husband has high blood sugar so I keep him away from most carbs. He doesn't need to drop any weight, but he is a sugar addict.
