I don't miss the guilt I always felt doing LC!

I love that JUDD is forgiving. I've been on enough vacations and business trips since starting this that I know I can really live! I can enjoy the social events, dinners, luncheons, get back home, get back to rotations and any vacation weight gained disappears quickly. Most of the gain turns out to be water weight and falls away. I don't get bloated. My clothes fit even after the occasional UUAAD.

There is no guilt w/ JUDD woe for me. Just get right back into rotations every time. It's easy.

Unreal. I'm so darn happy about this. Yay for JUDD!
Really good post. I'm with you - I love this WOE. Haven't eaten this much food since I was a teenager - guilt free and so relaxed on UD. Wake up just thinking - "so what do I WANT today?" No "shoulds" or "shouldn'ts." Forgot what that was like.

WOE: Atkins
Start Date: 6/4/11
I am a member of Weight Watchers doing low carb. I lost 63 pounds on Atkins last June-Dec.. Stalled for 5 months, added back in 9 pounds on ATKINS, so I began WW for accountability, to practice portion control, as well as adding some walking into my sedentary lifestyle. I had lost 13 with WW from May 2 until last Wed. (weigh in day).
This past week I decided to add some carbs, eat the way my leader at WW suggested-more vegetables, less fat, and some fruit. I even enjoyed two baked potatoes, fully loaded, but did not deviate too far from <20 carbs per day. Well, today I am 6 pounds heavier than a week ago. Thank goodness I have found this board, for it explains what has happened to me in regards to adding back those innocent carbs. I am thinking you all may have discovered/unlocked the weight loss secret with JUDD. I am going to find out all I can by reading these boards today and researching the plan. I think lc/JUDD will get me to my goal weight. I was at 263 May of 2011, was at 195 last week, am at 201 this morning. I am heading to Books A Million to see if there is a book to read about JUDD.

The book is called "The Alternate Day Diet" by Dr. Johnson. If you google JUDDD, his website will come up and it explains most of what's in the book.

50by60! Congratulations on losing 100 lbs. I'm sure JUDDD will help you get to goal. Be sure to read the thread "WHAT IS JUDDD? COME INSIDE & SEE!!" You will need to get your UD, DD calorie limits on johnsonupdaydowndaydiet.com and that's all you need to get started. Books A Million has the book online as does Amazon, etc. I could not find it in a store or library. The exact title is The Alternate-Day Diet by James B. Johnson, M.D.

I am a life member of WW, but since regaining I cannot lose on the points they gave me.......long story....and Atkins (lost 0)..... another long story......But, I'm losing on JUDDD and it. Feel strong and healthy and well fed and losing! Glad you're giving it a try. If you have problems search the boards like you're doing - I found every answer I needed on the threads. If you want to, post on the June weigh in and the June Newbie thread so others can get to know you. Good luck....but you won't need it.

I do not miss reading every obsessive book that came down the LC pike.

I decided last year to give it up and am proud to announce that I did not read Gary Tuabes last book or Wheat Belly.

I am better for it!! Really.

FWIWm even if you're not LC Taubes' book is great. Really interesting, actually-if you ever decide to read another book about food that is!

I do not recommend Wheat Belly regardless (lol)

Taubes books tend to be insightful and brilliant.

The idea I find fascinating, but have not yet had time to do is: since JUDDD is a ketogenic WOE and produces NSVs that are very similar (read 'pretty much identical') to LC' NSVs (improvement in asthma, reduced arthritis pain, weight loss, reduced inflammation....) I wonder if it is possible to read Taubes from a JUDDD point of view instead of an LC pov?

Yes, that's what I was saying....I didn't really feel it pushed a specific WOE, if that makes sense. And totally agree about the benefits of JUDDD looking (superficially) like a ketogenic diet. I dont' think the biologic processes are anywhere close, but you'd never know it!

I don't miss staring at a package of chocolate-covered pretzels, letting out a sigh, and frowning as I turn my back on it and trudge away...

Now I just open it up, grab a couple, savor each bite, and smile as I happily dance away.

I love being able to buy fruits and vegetables, and turn my back on bacon! I haven't had much bacon in the past 6 months, but I've eaten so.much.fruit!! Love it! I was looking through my bookshelf yesterday and found 3 more carb-counting books. Luckily they also have calorie counts. I don't miss "hold the bun". LC worked for me when I was a lot younger, but now? It was just another frustration. Enter JUDDD -- minimal guilt, rare frustration, and the scale keeps dropping! Gotta love a WOE that helps the body AND the mind!!

I don't miss anything but I love that I can eat now and not have one person comment on it. I still eat a ton of butter, CO, Cream Cheese, Cheese, Mayonnaise and HWC.

When everyone knew I was LC it was constant comments about death and clogged arteries. I still eat all those same things but I guess if you eat them on a hunk of bread or in the form of Cheesecake they don't clog your arteries anymore.

I don't miss any of it, especially meat and bacon. I've always thought I was a "closet" vegetarian. I still eat meat - -just really small portions.

Dragging out my stand mixer every Sunday to make two batches of Oopsie rolls for the week.

Being on deviled egg duty at every family gathering, just so I knew there would be SOMEthing there I could eat.

Missing out in s'mores every family camping trip.

All the "specialty" cooking I seemed to do, and then resenting when my family would eat "my" food.

Yeah. On LC I knew I wanted veggies. Now that I can eat whatever I want, I reach for veggies and fruit first.

I made Oopsie rolls last night. Haven't made them in a long time.

Trying to get DH off wheat for awhile to see if that is what is causing him some problems.

I love all the food on LC so still eat it but, I have to agree, that the guilt factor from having something as simple as fruit is gone.....AND if you eat cake and ice cream on your B'day (or any UD), it's no longer a cheat.

I will always appreciate what I learned from Dr A. and LC. It got me to 60 years.

Joedi,

I don't really miss LCing, but I do miss BETTY'S!!!!! OMG, I had a rare moment of homesickness. I lived in Guiseley for a while, and loved heading to Ilkey and spending a long time feeling pampered in Betty's. Yummmmmmmm......

Like tons of other people who JUDDD, I don't miss anything about LC because I'm still LCing! I love everything about low carb eating. It works lot better than starches or sugars for me. JUDDD is a nice addition, but not a substitution for lots and lots of us.
