What's the magic number?

Is there a "magic" number that is supposed to be the difference in your UDs and DDs calories?

I'm thinking I've read somewhere in a thread that it's either at least 700 or 1000 but for the life of me, I'm unable to search correctly to find the info. Any help would be appreciated!

IIRC, there's not exactly a magic number, but to maintain the sirtuin activation, your DD should be half (or less) of your UD calories. HTH!

HTH = here's to health or hope this helps? Both are appropriate and thank you very much for the answer, it makes total sense.

I will have to check my book again but I don't remember a specific number mentioned by Dr. J. I have seen 1000 difference mentioned on this forum but do not know where that number came from.

HTH = Hope that helps.

In the book, Dr. J talks about figuring out your RMR or BMR (resting metabolic rate/ Basal metabolic rate) and the UD number is appx 200 above that.

For DDs he says the best and fastest results come from the lowest number or even fasting from solid food and calories (but drink lots of water and non-caloric drinks).

Basically, if you go above 50% (half of your UD number) on a DD, then you are in maintenance and not in weight loss mode any more.

So, the magic number is the difference between 45% OR LESS of your UD number and the UD number itself. Does that make sense??

In other words, the calculator is going to give you your UD number which for you will be an estimate of your RMR plus about 200 calories.

If the UD number is, say, 2000, then the magic number would have to be more than 1000 calories.

OK, I'm going to stop because i'm not sure this will be clear!!

Thanks YamYam, makes perfect sense, even for this mathematically challenged gal! I knew I could count on y'all to help - whenever I go into research mode, I end up going on all kinds of rabbit trails, never ending up with an answer to my original reason for the research.
