Getting Frustrated :(
How does one gain weight after a down day?
I haven't lost after 2 rotations of DD/UD ![]() Just weighed, and I'm way up (247 vs the 244 in my sig) Someone talk me off the ledge please!!! Yes, I'm following my UD and DD calories. Could this be entirely carb related? About 130 last UD and about 30 yesterday DD (due to 1/2 oz popcorn). Thoughts??? Upon reflection, I'd tell me that its either carb water weight and I'll lose when it settles, or go lower carb and the water and fat will go again. Yes? Soren

I'm often up after a DD and down after an UD with no rhyme or reason. I was up a couple of pounds after my DD a few days ago. I had no idea why, and ended up having a kidney stone yesterday (still working on it today) and I'm sure that's what caused my gain.
Our bodies are so unique, it could be anything. Or nothing at all, but a blip. You could be fighting an infection and not know it. It could be water weight, hormones, whatever. If you're following your numbers, I'd give it a couple of weeks before worrying too much. I know that's easier said than done, but it's really the best advice I have. ![]()

it's so annoying when that happens!Could be from carbs? TOM? Knowing JUDDD you'll be back down in no time and probably more. Remember the scale bounces. |

Oh man, we love to see linear progress for our efforts, don't we? I understand your frustration. Could be carbs, hormones, salt, etc. ad infinitum. My two cents? Back SLOWLY away from that $&@& ing scale and just let Juddd "do you" for a few more rotations. Then you can teach the rest of us trust and patience. Hope your day is wonderful, Soren. Thanks for your excellent company on the Juddd path.

I don't have any personal experience to give you but before I joined this awesome bunch for real I scrutinized the patterns of many of the people who posted weights on their journey down. Often I saw a gain or stall for several cycles and then boom down 3-5 lbs, repeat ad nauseam. Probably nothing wrong with your numbers. Just remind yourself it works. I have done every ever diet known to man and this is the best I've found so far.
BTW are you just now adding carbs back in? I added some carbs back in and weighed the same after TOM as I did before so I'm guessing about a 5 lb gain from my previous weight if it had happened mid month. Certainly a possibility.

Water weight. Or needing to visit the loo successfully?
I can put on and take off 2 lbs overnight depending on weather I've drunk alcohol (drop in weight) eaten carbs (weight up) or something really salty or late at night. On Friday I had a super low carb day and did the sauna/steam room thing and dropped to a new low but it does go up again. I just think your body will always return to that new low if you stick to the rules for 4 or 5 days. VLCarb helps me keep the scale happy. It stops the body hanging onto the water.

Oh and another thought. I found that my old scales would "stick" at certain weights. The mechanism had a kink or something. I could get off and then on again and register 3 lbs lighter!
Accurate scales are essential. |

I'm in the same place- I have bounced between 171-173.3 since mid- May. I'm trying to hang in and look at the other benefits of the JUDDD magic. But, I can't lie... the whoosh fairy would be great right about now!!!

Deeeep Breath.....
Thank you folks, all of you! 1) I do find that my DD's cause a bit of semi-constipation, so on the morning of my UD when I want to weigh, I really wait till I "go" (and maybe go again... seems to be better after that first, um, time) So, that's good for .2 to .4 pounds ![]() 2) i've been experimenting with carbs starting after the 1st week actually... I'm mostly LC, but on my UD, and for the first time on a DD yesterday, I've been enjoying a bit of popcorn. I'll try to keep it lower carb. 3) weighing 1x a week-- yes, I was doing that at the begining, and then the allure of always losing after a DD was so tempting! :annoying: I'll wait another few days before weighing again.... 4) Dawn, you may be psychic-- I think I'm fighting a VERY LOW level UTI... I felt something the other day and JUMPED on my super-cran capsules, and I think I wasn't drinking enough fluids so I upped those (also, very very hot here, another reason to drink a lot). So it could be that, and also some yardwork over the weekend-- minorly sore muscles? I just feel badly b/c I went off track in mid-May, and worked to get back down to my lowest (and it was a lowest in 3yrs... so maybe a set point??? another factor???) and now I'm sort of bouncing around that number. Gee, the more I think about it, the more I think I'd be telling me all the stuff you guys are telling me ![]() Ok, I'll relax and just work the rotations, enjoy, keep to my numbers, drink fluids (having non-caffeine iced tea right now), avoid excessive carbs (hello pork rinds, goodbye popcorn). Thank you Dawn, Janette, Kristin, Monica, Elise, Stargazer, and Carly!!! ![]() HUGGGS to the JUDDD BUDDDs ![]() S. |

I'm another who sees no rhyme or reason. Although, being mostly low carb, when I do indulge in carbier foods, I see a gain like I have this last week - twice with almost a 4 lb. gain.
I know it's water because my clothes don't get any tighter, but it does freak me out to see those numbers.I've gained after a DD, lost after an UD and everywhere in between. Honestly, I feel like I'm treading mud or quicksand - sometimes both here lately! |

Ah, Vanilla-- I too was hoping to have a JUDDD journey with no bouncing... And I can hear the veterans laughing and laughing...
![]() (and I went ahead and had 100 cal of popcorn today... I'll have to figure out lower carb snacks for that cal value). |

Step away from the ledge! As a rule you are still on a downward trend. As said, our bodies are so complicated. It would be silly of us to believe we can figure out the cause of each and every swing. If you're now spooked by the popcorn, then don't snack on it again. I swear by my SF LC chocolate bars on UD. I don't eat a whole one mind you. But you would swear they are filled with both sugar and carbs lol? Don't forget as women even if it's not TOM we can still be affected by the dreaded hormones. Take a cleansing breath and just move forward. You will start losing again before you know it.

Thanks Vanessa! Can I ask, what SF LC chocolate do you like? I'm finding *everything* is causing, um, gastric upset lately, including erythritol.
sigh. No popcorn today-- lots of green tea (see-how-fast-I'm-typing?????) and I'm feeling SUPER EFFICIENT!!! I'd usually weigh tomorrow, as it's after an UD, but I will NOT, and I'll wait another revolution. S. |

Go get'em, Soren Braveheart!
I could use a little gastric upset. Perhaps I should cram a bit of fake sugar in to try and get things... moving. If I don't do something, I'm going to weigh in at double my original weight. |

Shirataki actually helps me to be regular. I have not heard that it could cause issues???
Are you drinking plenty of water? |

Tons of water, but thanks for asking! Possibly too much coffee, all kinds of fibre remedies. This started with Judding, and I associate it with eating about a tenth of what I used to. Hoping it'll sort itself out. Without giving up shirataki.

I have to say, I'm finding that things aren't going as easily as they used to on straight LC, not counting gastric upset situations caused by sugar alcohols.
I think it's a few things-- on the DD's, I'm eating fiber/veggies/shirataki, but very very little fat. And, um, well, that's it. I personally think it's the lack of fat. But I can't spare 100 cal for oil/butter/cheese on a DD, so I'm not really sure what to do? I do drink a good 2-3L of water/iced tea just about every day, certainly every DD. And things do move-- on UD there's no issue, and after the first go on a DD, the rest of the day is ok. Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong-- maybe the UD are affecting my DD? ![]() Maybe he salads I eat on the DD move through on the UD, but the meat/cheese/fat I eat on the UD don't get going quite as fast on the DD morning? Do we have a gastroenterologist in the house??? ![]() S. |

I definitely had a period of time where the scale seemed to be stuck . . . and then a three pound whoosh.
I'm also still having "going" issues. Wish I could figure that out. Also paging that gastroenterologist. |

Shirataki noodles do the opposite of what you would think they would do for me and I drink plenty of water so I am going to forgo them for awhile to see how I fare. I have read that they affect some folks like they seem to be affecting me. Sad since I bought a case and I am not near finished with it.
