I got a new scale, and

I hate it. It weighs 2 pounds heavier than the old.

Not sure how to make that work with my stats. Do I adjust my starting weight up 2 pounds so the loss stays the same? Subtract 2 pounds from each daily weight?

(dh will be using the old scale to weigh calves, so needed a new one for the house).

I do not like seeing those numbers again, even though I know it's not "real". It's what I have to get used to again.

I guess I should measure a known weight to make sure it's actually accurate.

edit: just weighed my dd's, and they both weigh the same on both scales. I step on, exactly 2 pound difference. Way too weird.

Hey Tina, I know you have already thought of all of this, but.....

Did you eat anything in the last day or so that might have resulted in a water weight gain? Or are you comparing the two scales at the same time and getting different results? Also, since your daughters do not show similar gains, maybe the new scale has a smaller 'sweet spot'?

I am all . Keep imaging your DH storming into the bathroom, grabbing the scale out from under your feet, and shouting as he stomps out with the scale, "Sorry woman, but I gotta measure me some cattle!!!!"

I did not "lose" weight. I evicted it. It is gone and it ain't coming back!

JUDDD cares about calories. JUDDD does not care what you eat. Your body probably does.

That's totally weird. My new scale also weighs two pounds heavier than my old scale, but I still have more to lose, so I just took the hit and considered myself two pounds heavier. That doesn't apply in your case.

Can you give DH the new scale for the calves, and you can keep the trusty, kinder one?

Comparing the 2 at the same time, stepping right from one to the other. Same as I did with the girls.

LOL gotsomeold. When he used the old one, at least he put it in a big heavy duty ziplock so it wasn't all nasty when he brought it back in. But I just decided it needed to live outside (and it was my excuse to buy a fancy new digital). I don't think the digital would do as well being drug out in a pasture as the old dial scale did.

I got the Healthometer from WM--not the cheapest but one step up--keeps track of 2 people.

So if I take this one back, what scale do you recommend? I won't spend more than $30.

I love my digital but it wasn't low cost.
OhioGuy posted about hating the HealthoMeter he bought.
I did notice my son has one (healthometer) in his mound of stuff he brought home from college. Might get it out and compare it to mine.

OhioGuy recommended getting the WeightWatchers one; same price at WalMart as HealthoMeter.

Cruelty to animals is right! A calf can't even arrive in the world without some guy wanting to know what she weighs? I suppose that begins a lifetime of weight accountability or obsession? What kind of life for a calf is that?

Wait a minute, are these like future BBQ material? Never mind....

If you don't love that scale, return it and find one that you do!

I know how you feel - I got a new scale about 2 months ago & it gave me a 3 pound increase, both weighing in the same spot at the same time! I added 3 pounds to my starting weight and went on from there....

LOL NoWeigh! Their future depends on what breed they are and if they are male or female. But all need to have birth weights documented anyway. But yep, def some future bbq out there. The 2 little girls he weighed yesterday though will spend their lives here on the farm, in the company of a gentlemanly herd bull, producing more little calves to be weighed on their first day.

Will look at the WW scale today at WM.

i took a big stick and beat the holy crap out of my healthometer from wm. it will drive ya bonkers.
it weights me:
1) inconsistently i would weight, get off and get back on and i would be one pound heavier, i would get off and back on and it would be 2 pounds heavier. THATS NOT RIGHT
2) it was 2 pounds different than the WW scale. the WW scale weight the exact same every time
3) it was slow and a pain on top of not weighing worth a pooh.

get your money back if its the healthometer!! =D
specially if you are a daily weigher. OR get off and back on until you get the weight you want lol

Healthometer is back at WM and money is back in my pocket. My WM did not have the WW brand (just the HOM). So when I am in a bigger city, I will check the WM there for the WW one.

What model did you get Jamie?

Yes, please recommend which one, someone? Jamie? When I check at Amazon, there are 5 or 6 WW scales to choose from and my brain is too small for that!

If I go by recommendations there, it would be the round one for about $35, which has been reviewed about 125 times.

Shipping on several of those is free, btw, which makes me think I could just as well do that as go to a store. (with eldercare you have to ration out your shopping time - it's a puzzle)

Tina, I wanted you to know that a health-o-meter scale here weighs me 3 pounds heavier than our older scale, a Taylor. When my daughter has weighed on it throughout her preteen years, the 2 scales will be the same for her. I just thought you would like to know you are not crazy, as documented by another not-crazy household! We, however, did not have enough sense to take the scale back. It's only use is that it lets you track small losses better.

I am fortunate enough to have 2 homes, so 2 sets of scales.

The one in London weighs at least a pound less than the Devon one.

It is quite clear to me that the London one is correct.....................

who ever is ur local wm competition, try there. ( if there is any)
i went to meijers to get the new one.

i thought maybe if you have a 350 scale and you weigh in that area, i could see the issue of max'ing but it was a 420 scale
