Some people swear by coconut oil, and others just think it is one of the very healthful oils and use it along with the other *healthy* oils they have on hand.
As far as what Mother Nature would have intended for us in our primative paleo/primal stage of being, obviously coconut palms don't grow many places on earth, so man didn't exist, needing coconut oil. ![]() I use it as one of the fats/oils I cook with, but I don't PUSH it. While experimenting and tracking, I have never found it increased my rate of weight loss. At all. In fact, relying too heavily on it tended to stall me out. Probably too many Coconut Oil calories heaped on top of days that were full enough just by themselves. LOL But it's high in medium-chain fatty acids, and somewhat higher than the medium-chain fatty acids in butter. Which is another source of these good fats. So mostly I use butter. A ton of butter! I love it a lot more than coconut oil.

I love coconut oil to cook (makes the fluffiest eggs ever) and it is all we use to season our cast iron. Need to start putting it on my face before bed.

coconut oil and use it all the time. As noted above, it makes the best tasting eggs in my opinion. As far as the brand, I don't think it makes a difference. I've been buying Puritan's Pride's coconut oil for years and I LOVE it! I love their sales, too, so I can stock up at a fabulous price. The oil has such a nice, coconutty flavor. I say, go for it!
BTW, I mostly use it in my protein shakes (it's not oily at all, just coconutty flavored), and it makes yummy coconut bark. I also use it in my baked sweets, and the flavor is nice. Last edited by theredhead; 05-16-2012 at 06:38 AM.. |

Coconut oil contains 67% MCTs. If I add coconut oil to my diet, I lose weight much more consistently, even when I'm adding them as additional calories. So, a 500 calorie down day with no coconut oil results in less weight loss, for me, than a 700 calorie down day if 200 of those calories are from coconut oil. Your mileage may vary! |

Thanks for the tip, I just ordered as per you suggestion! I use 1 tsp everyday to help with "bathroom issues" and it's doing the trick nicely!!!

Oh, sorry I didn't see your question about coconut bark, Stephanie! I can't remember who originally posted it, but here's one recipe I like to make with it:
Coconut Oil Bark Peanut Butter Cups 4 T. coconut oil, melted 1 ˝ T unsweetened cocoa powder ˝ tsp vanilla extract 3 ˝ T. Ideal sweetener (use what you like, but not ALL Splenda because it will be bitter with the chocolate) Peanut Butter or PB2 – 2 T Melt coconut oil and add other ingredients except peanut butter. Place a small amount in each of three regular-sized muffin papers, or 7 minis. Place in freezer for 5-10 minutes. Put a small dollop of peanut butter on each and top with remaining cocoa mixture. Place in freezer again for at least 10 minutes, then they’re ready to eat! Keep in the freezer.

Every day, however do not take before bed. It can keep you awake, as some find it gives them energy. Spreading out the 3.5 TBL into at least 3 servings is ideal. You don't want a big metabolism boost only in the morning, right? You want to spread out the fat burning capabilities. Take it with food or about 20 mins before. I find that I remember to take it after my meals and it doesn't upset my stomach that way. Mary Enig suggests 20 mins before a meal so you can have that appetite suppresant. I say do what works for you! What "issue" are you referring to? The bathroom issue? I take psyllium every night and have no issues. I find a bottle at Walmart for $4! It works for me! If I need extra help (with hcg I was needing a bit of help) I took Natural Calm which is a magnesium supplement. But with the coconut oil and psyllium---nothing else needed! HTH!! PS I buy Tropical Traditions and they have a great FAQ section on their website. You can learn all about coconut oil--just click on the oil tab and the FAQs will pop up.

Just wish I could get past the smell. I love the water, milk, cream, flesh but not the oil.
I hate cosmetics scented with coconut too. |

I wanted to add I bought the Puritan Pride deal and I'm SO happy with this product! It has a wonderful coconut taste and smell, which I
.I know there are products on the market, as was suggested, to help with "bathroom issues" but the benefits and natural remedy of coconut oil outweighs taking any other product, for me. |
