Resistance is not futile
ok...nowhere else to post this...I just refused a chocolate cupcake (the processed kind)....
New to JUDDD so I'm adjusting to my DD. Stress is my food trigger usually and this week has been very stressful at work. I went over my DD calories by a few today (502 vs. 464) but just now I almost succumbed to a Ding Dong (there's a reason they call them that). My husband was willing to give me the one he hid previously (because he wants to live..... ) and I grabbed it from him determined to eat it. Sat down and looked at the sad cellophane wrapping and the tired flat frosting...nope, not worth the 180 whopping calories...gave it back to the husband and grabbed a diet rootbeer. If it doesn't work I'm just going to go to bed. wandering off now singing Le Marsallaise under my breath...to arms citizens! |

LOLOLOL
Welcome! Glad you've joined us here. You are going to love it, well... at least after you get *into* this a bit. ![]() This is a pretty remarkable plan for managing your overall calorie intake, and I don't know what actual food plan you are following, or whether any at all, but if you do JUDDD correctly, it is only a few weeks before you find your appetite normalized, your response to previous trigger foods abated, your relationship with food modest... sometimes for the first time in your life. It's pretty remarkable. We find our health improved as well. Lowered blood sugar responses, better response to insulin, great lessening of metabolic resistance, better blood pressures, increases in metabolism so that we can run at a better burn rate, etc. The Down Days take a bit of initial work, finding out which foods and menus are the ones that fill you up comfortably and help you get through DDs in comfort, and after that.. it's all pretty easy and absolutely fabulous on Up Days, when you can eat any way you want to, of any foods you desire! Woo Hoo! Losing weight as you enjoy Up Days at full calorie levels.. not at a dieting level at all. Can't beat that. ![]() ![]()

Good for you!!!!
I was seriously contemplating having ice cream last night. Seriously really close and there was some good stuff definitely worth having in my freezer. It was an UD but no calories left. Finally, at 9:30 I just went to bed. LOL |

on not eating the cupcake. You're nicer than I am, I probably wouldn't have let my DH have the cupcake either. My goats would have shared it . Depending on where my hormones were at the time! You sound strong willed, I'm sure you will be very happy over here and and maybe you will get why I have a Locutus figurine with changing hands lol .Did I spell his name correctly.![]() Vanessa |

Learning to evaluate where our calories come from....an whether they are worth it....is really taking control of our own destiny! WHOOO HA and Congratulations!
I laughed at loud at the part about your DH being willing to give up the Ding Dong since he wanted to survive. Now, it is UD. I suggest you buy two really excellent cupcakes - one for you to savor and one to reward DH. |

Good for you and wtg on the 9.2 lb loss in one week!!!!!
I'm LOL at Jamie. I knew someone would suggest that. Funny thread. I love how JUDDD trains us to examine our calorie 'budget' and make decisions based on value, not just availability. Is that Ding Dong really worth the 180 calories, or could you spend that more wisely on something you might enjoy more? Rather than instant gratification (which is what got us into this mess in the first place), we THINK before we put food in our mouths--can I afford it, is it worth it, will I regret it if I eat it? And that, I think, is one of the many amazing aspects of JUDDD. Because it teaches us that the whole world of food is open to us (barring allergies/intolerances/etc) and how to navigate that world in a way that is beneficial to us, rather than harmful.

, Catherine. BTW Welcome to JUDDD. You sound like me on my difficult DOWN days. I usually just end up going to bed early, too. LOL and I used to teach French so I can sing that one in FRENCH! I'll have to remember that when I'm marchin' off to bed early on a DOWN day. We can sing it in harmony .......it's about 9:30 for me most DD's. LOLOLOLCongrats on passing on the temptation. KUTGW!! And KEEP SINGING, my friend. ♪♪♪♪Aux armes citoyens......Formez vos bataillons! Marchons....Marchons....!! ♪♪♪♪ I'll be singing it tomorrow night, most likely, on my next DD! LOL

I'm late to this thread, but wanted to add my congratulations on beating the ding-dong demon and winning!
And regarding the title of this thread, resistance is NOT futile!! Someone posted a thread not too long ago about how we create new habits with our daily activities. Resisting the ding-dong creates a circuit in your brain that is reinforced each time you choose to resist and makes that habit (choice) stronger. Conversely, each time you give in, you create and reinforce a "giving-in" circuit and then have a habit of giving in. So resistance is anything BUT futile! You are re-programming your brain to be stronger in the face of temptation. ![]()
