Blender Bottle or Shaker Cup?

I've been playing with my new protein shake mix. I've used it in the Magic Bullet with just water, and then another time with water, yogurt, and a banana. Both times it came out gritty.

This morning, I tried it in my Shaker Cup, you know the kind with the plastic mesh insert. You put the powder and liquid in, then just shake, shake, shake. It came out, by far, much less gritty and yummy. I think though it might not work as well if I add greek yogurt.

Has anyone tried using greek yogurt with a shaker cup? I'm also looking at the Blender Bottle, which seems like it should do well. Has anyone used one, and what do you think?

Thanks!!

I love my blender bottle, but I haven't done more than straight liquid with protein powder or supplement powder. I think you would end up with little clumps of yogurt, which I would like my family mocks me for chewing liquids. I think that is partly why I love chia milk so much.

My favorite one has a little wire ball that goes inside and agitates. I've never had lumps with it.

I have a BB & I love it, but it doesn't entirely blend yogurt. It's not lumpy, exactly, but I can see confetti- and smaller-sized "flecks".

The thing you have, with a mesh screen, prob works better.

I bought a BB on the way home, so I'll try them both with the yogurt over the next few days. I thought maybe the greek yogurt would be too thick for the mesh.

I recently got one with the wire ball. Haven't tried it with greek yogurt but I think I will tomorrow as I know I'm having that with just water and if I can get by with not having to use the blender all the better. And I wouldn't mind if it's a little 'lumpy'.

I've noticed it a little gritty with the bullet too (is this the SW brand?). But I don't really mind it.

I think on my UD tomorrow, I'm going to add some of the almond milk yogurt I just got. MMMM.

Today's experiment: Blender Bottle

Sun Warrior - Warrior Blend, Vanilla (1 scoop) (I brought the powder to work in tupperware, and I estimated 1 scoop = just less than 1/4 C, so that's how I measured)
10 oz. water
1/2 C plain greek yogurt

This mixed the yogurt very well. No lumps. It was still very gritty, not like yesterday's shake.

Yesterday's shake was just 8 oz. water and 1 scoop powder in the shaker cup with the mesh mixing element. This eliminated almost ALL of the grit factor.

Tomorrow I'll try the yogurt, powder, and water in the shaker cup and see if it's: a) gritty, and b) lumpy or smooth.

I used mine today with 1/2 cup yogurt and my regular protein powder (Designer Whey) with 8 oz water and it blended perfectly.

When I use my Warrior brand it is a bit gritty and I need to mix more water/liquid with it. I reserve it for when I am blending fruit and other things in. It really enhances the flavor as well as adds protein. But by itself or with just yogurt I can't get the texture I like. I haven't tried the Garden of Life brand yet.

I'm also getting a new whey powder to try....it is organic whey from grass fed cows and no soy (Well Wisdom). I like using whey best for my weight training days and use the other protein powders for other days.

Kathy, let me know how you like the Well Wisdom when you get it. I'm finding it difficult to find very many protein powders without soy.
Thx!

I just bought NOW brand Chocolate flavored Egg White Protein. I love it, good chocolate taste and not too eggy.

I just checked that one out. The chocolate and vanilla both have soy, but the plain egg white doesn't. It might be worth checking out.

Today's experiment: Shaker Cup

I put 1/2 C greek yogurt with 10 oz water into the shaker cup and shook it up. It blended beautifully. I could see adding a little flavoring and having this on its own.

I then added the SW protein powder scoop and shook, shook, shook.

Gritty!

I then added 1 tsp gluc powder to make it thicker (and I was hoping it would help with the grit).

My shake is now still gritty, but not terrible, and super thick. Almost too thick to drink. If I do this again, I'll use 1/2 teaspoon of gluc instead. It also took away a little of the sweetness, so I'd probably add a tiny bit of syrup or Mio.

I'm 2/3 of the way through my shake and getting quite full. Not bad for 144 calories and 27 grams of protein total. I could see doing this with just the water, powder, and maybe a tiny amount of gluc for a total of 84 calories and 16 grams of protein.

I love the mesh ball but I think the protein powder does not mix all that well with cold water. Comes out lumpy even when I shake until my wrist feels like it will fall off.

I did mine in the bullet this morning--1 container of Amande blueberry almond yogurt, 1 cup almond milk, 1 scoop SW protein powder, and about 6 raspberries.

The best yet. So thick and creamy, no grit. Def not DD worthy, but oh so good for an UD.

Today, I did 1 scoop SW vanilla, 1/2 C fat free greek yogurt, 10 oz. water, and a little Mio berry pomegranate.
