given that these are not really realistic expectations, I've stopped asking. They do recommend those newer toothpastes that are supposed to help prevent erosion and I think some claim to put calcium back, but once it's gone, it's pretty much gone.

sigh.

Maybe drinking through a straw?
Hello all. New to this site. I plan to start JUDDD next week.
I'm curious about the straw thing too. It seems like that might make a big difference.

to JUDDD! Make sure to pop in on the Newbie thread if you haven't already. This is such a great place to be! You will love it here and you will love JUDDD.

Just read, read, read when you have time and post on any threads that suit your fancy.

BTW: The only things I could drink from a straw are soft drinks, milkshakes and maybe iced tea! Couldn't imagine doing it with coffee or wine, but I know some people do it to keep their teeth white or protect enamel.

I hope the lemon I have at home is still good. My hands are so swollen- not sure why, but maybe some lemon water over the next day or 2 will help.

I have had some success with lemonade fasts in the past so was happy to see this thread. Made 3 quarts using 1 lemon, 1T maple syrup to sip today.

Regarding the straw, can't comment on whether it would protect against erosion. But as a former smoker, I do find it satisfying onthe emotional level. Sucking on a straw is how I finally quit smoking. Seems like it might help with the mental pitfalls of fasting as well.

In spas they frequently have a large glass dispenser with lemon slices floating in it with the ice. It is delish and I brought the habit home.

Thanks for the info on lemon water - does anyone know the carbs in the juice of 1/2 a lemon. I am trying to stay fairly low carb.

Thanks!

I have been drinking lemon water this week and enjoying it very much. I sometimes add splenda too, and float the lemon chunks in my water.

Here is a quote from a nutrition site:

"
Lemon Juice

Two tbsp. of freshly squeezed or bottled lemon juice provides 2.1 g of carbohydrates and 0.1 g of fiber. A whole lemon usually yields about 3 tbsp. worth of juice. This makes it a very low carbohydrate food choice. You can use a few tbsp. of lemon juice on most low-carb diet plans, although these programs often exclude other fruits."

I remember that Dr. Dukan recommended having lemon juice, unlimited, although his diet first phase is NO carb.

Besides my lemon slushies I have been putting an individual serving packet of crystal lite (their orange flavored energy drink) in 8 oz of club soda. I get the little cans at Trader Joe's. Its the only club soda I like. Weird.
Anyway, mixed with club soda, the crystal lite, and crushed ice it reminds me of a margarita. Told you I'm weird.

You could even get the margarita crystal lite flavor.

Apparently, they make Crystal Lite mocktails. I've never seen them, but some others here have tried them.

Very helpful post. After a week of binge eating, I essentially set myself back a month of weight loss. Yesterday was my first DD in a week. I came across this post and used my lemons that had been sitting in the fridge and will be sipping lemon water, along with strict DD's.
