Does cooking fat counts as calories?
Sorry, if this sounds like a silly question but since I don't have the book in my hands yet and I am doind DD tomorrow, do I need to count fat (olive oil, butter) I cook in and add this to calories. I am afraid it is YES. I just checked 1 tbs olive oil has 120 cal
(that would be 1/5 of the daily calories). TIA |

Yes, it counts. Sorry.
A lot of us use a spray of Pam on DDs, it's much fewer calories. Don't worry about it, chalk it up to experience and keep on going! |

Blabbermouth!!!

When I have an egg for B I use a dab of coconut oil and wipe the skillet with it and I count that as 30 calories. So 105 for breakfast. Or I eat a HB egg and count it as 75. Depends on my mood I guess.
But I count everything. |

I use the liquid spray butter (ICBINB), which is mostly water and soy (and a few other things I don't remember), but there are "0" calories. Gets a bit costly if you use it a lot, which I don't, but I hate using all those calories just to cook something in!

I have I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray (and yes I certainly can believe it is not butter). Here's what it has:
soybean oil and soy lecithin Who'd have thunk it? |

If you are just cooking an egg or something, 1 tbsp is SO MUCH olive oil or butter!!! I often just use 1/2 tsp (20 calories) and it is plenty.
Or, use a small piece of paper towel to just wipe a few drops of oil onto a skillet...saves a lot of money compared to sprays! On DDs I mostly cook with water or broth, and save the fat for UDs. There are some foods that in my opinion have a better texture when browned or caramelized with fat, so I save them for UDs too. |

Actually, there's a lot of evidence to dispute this claim, and point the finger at carbs due to their insulin effect. I think JUDDD lets us get by with more carbs because of it's healing effect, making us more insulin sensitive, so we need less insulin to process the carbs we eat. And, by the very nature of 500 calorie dd's, you have a lower carb day every other day, so overall carb intake is reduced. With the reading I've done over the past year, I now think it is insulin that makes you fat. And too many calories of even the right kinds of foods makes you fat. But you still have to count fat calories on DD's. Sorry.

I eat soy. No problems. I will die though.![]() ![]() ![]() (Sorry)Oh and yes you have to count the fat calories. But I don't mind, I make room for fat where it counts, i.e. if I can taste it. Last edited by Kissa; 05-09-2012 at 07:31 AM.. |

Cooking sprays do really have calories. One servings can be counted as zero, but who sprays for 1 second? I think most people spray to coat the pan which probably adds up closer to 20 calories. Why not just use a little bit of good oil?
Best suggestions are to use a little bit of oil or wipe the pan with a paper towel. |
