My First DD...Wow. This is going to be HARD.

I am already hungry, and I've already had a cup of coffee, 16 oz of water, 1/2 c. LF greek yogurt, and a cup of tea. (over the span of 4 hrs LOL). It's 10 AM here...

Plugging along but wow

Hard boiled eggs are 75 calories and they fill me up bigtime. Just a thought.

I love eggs, but unfortunately I can't eat them on an empty stomach (and maybe not even on their own). Just one of my many intolerances, unfortunately.

I may try them on my next down day for lunch though (don't want to get discouraged today if I get sick from them).

Thank you for the suggestion though!

Well a tuna pouch is 80 calories and lowfat mayo is 15 calories per T. SO for 95 calories youi get a very filling protein food. Thinking of what works for me. I have even used a fatfree Kraft Italian dressing with the tuna which is tolerable.

I went shopping for some LC tortillas at the grocers, and was surprised to find they are only 120 calories each - get some chicken slices, lettuce, slice of tomato with a bit of di'jon mustard, and that's a very filling DD meal. Another winner for me is an instant packet of cream of wheat; mixed with hot water, you've got a warm delicious meal at only 100 calories! I believe there is a thread of DD recipes with lots of other ideas, and also, the more DDs you do, the easier it gets; good luck to you!

Just a few thoughts that I use for my DD go-to's:

Weight Watchers has string cheese for 50 cals. Babyel light also has 50 cal cheese rounds. Frigo light string cheese - 60 cals

Sugar free sweet pickles 0 cals

veggies - raw or in a stir fry can be pretty low

Egg whites - 2/3 cup for 75 cals - high protein scrambled eggs

flavored rice cakes - around 50 cals each

Laughing cow light cheese triangles - around 35 cals each

Weight Watchers cheese triangles - 30 cals each

Miracle noodles/Shiratake noodles - 0 cals

Turkey bacon - 3 slices for 105 calories

Imitation crab leg sticks - 45 cals

Boca Vegan burgers - 70 cals

Romaine lettuce - 2 cups, 16 cals (Have a BIG salad) use pico di gallo for dressing at minimal calories (6 oz = 30 cals)

98% Fat Free hot dogs - 40 cals

Progresso Light Soup - whole can 140-160 calories (on average)

I just bought 50 cal. String cheese, I think it was Sargento.

The Oscar Meyer already cooked (throw it in the microwave) bacon is 70 cals for 4 pieces

My favorite bread Sara Lee Delightful 100% whole wheat is 45 per slice

Progresso Light Homestyle Vagetable and Rice soup 120 for the whole can

Bagel Thins (I've tried blueberry and cinnamon rasin and both are great!) 110 cals. Add a T of whipped cream cheese for another 30 cals.

Herb Ox Chicken instant bouillon (powdered stuff not cubes) 5 cals per t. 1 t makes a nice coffee cup serving

Oscar Meyer Delifresh smoked Turkey Breast (this stuff has saved my sanity!!) 45 cals per 6 slices.

Baby carrots I count 5 cals per two

Baby pickles 5 each

Tomatoes 35 per tomato

Etc...etc....

And a big fat for you!!! It really does get easier, planning the heck out of DDs helps a LOT! I upped my DD from 500 to 600 and that helped a lot too.

None of those foods are SOLID foods that you need to chew. Even the yogurt is more of the liquid variety. Solid foods will fill you up more.

It may take a few DDs to figure out what foods are the most satiating for you. Check out the DD recipes and LC DD staples threads for some ideas, or you could take a look at the daily menu threads to see what everyone's eating. For me, I need a good amount of protein and fat to get me through my DDs, and I don't eat at all until 7-8pm because as soon as I start eating, it cranks my appetite into high gear and I end up overeating and still feeling hungry. I know this doesn't work for everyone though, so you'll have to try things out and see what works for you. The DDs definitely do get easier as you continue.

I'll second the delay eating as long as possible, the second I put actual food into my body I want to eat everything in sight! On DDs I delay eating my first meal until 1:00-2:00 then I eat up to 200 calories, then don't eat till 5:00 (another 200 calories), last meal is at 7:00 (200 claories or less). It's working for me....rather nicely.

Eat some real food, something that is filling and will keep you going for awhile.

Some use protein dense foods, some (like me ) use carbs like oatmeal, veggies and salads to keep going.

It's only your first day, give it and yourself a break and try to figure out what will work well for you on your DDs. It takes many of us quite a few DDs to figure out how to get the most bang for our calorie buck. Give it some time and patience.

And here is a thread that may help also: Don't Let Those DD Calories Scare You Into NOT Trying JUDDD!

to our JUDDD BUDDD, too!!

You should try like boneless skinless chicken breast. I cut mine in stripes and put under the broiler to crisp it without adding oils. Sometimes I dip in hot sauce or add salsa for extra flavor.

The chicken was in the beginning. Then as the DD's got easier I was able to just munch on salad mix or dill pickles!

It will get easier!! The first few are hard, but once the magic kicks in you will go most of the day and think "oh yeah still not hungry yet!!"

In the begining also you can get like the lean cusine meals. Lots of different ones for low calories. I also like those Tia Pei (think thats what its called) from walmart. Those little chinese meals. I found a garlic shrimp one that is 80 calories a serving and the whole container is 2.5 servings. It feels me up and I come in way under the 500!

I did find, I need to eat something on DD's. When I eat around 350 calories on DD's I actually lose better than if I ate nothing at all. I now wait til 7pm or so to eat something. By the time I start to get hungry again, its bed time and I wont eat when its time to sleep! Oh I found low calorie english muffins that I started eating on DD's too. I have one of those with SF jelly I found, it has 10 calories a Tbsp! So I get a 110 "dessert" on DD's now!!!

Hang in there!!!! It will get easier!!! You will find what works for you! It is trial and error but do that til you find what works!!! Its easier that way!!

I'll second what was said above. I learned back in school in a biochem course that the minute you break the fast all the biological functions start moving along. You do better if you wait until lunch to eat than if you mess with insulin levels in the morning.

That said pure protein doesn't effect your body in the same way so if you were really starving and didn't want to send yourself over the edge that may be a better way to do-like some turkey slices, or tuna. They'll both keep your blood sugar stable and your body won't know you've broken the fast.

They'll get easier, and you may need to play with your calories as well as the actual foods. I can eat 500 calories and be fine if it's protein based. If it's carb based I'm a mess. Everyone is different in terms of what satisfies them. I also can't do eggs on an empty stomach so I totally get that.

on making it through your first DD. I've said it before. Oatmeal made with water instead of milk. Two packets, half a banana, vanilla extract, apple pie spice or pumpkin pie, sf sweetener. You get a big filling bowl for about 108 calories. Not much chewing going on but it's really hot so it takes a while to eat and is very filling. It is a DD must have for me.

I did about 570 on my first DD, and abit over on my second but stayed under 500 on my 3rd yesterday this is the first UD where I havent felt starving and gone crazy so am eating savvy today, properly and carefully but I get to have some chocolate, have a treat box full of 100cal bars, easier to tot up! plus my girls love em........ cheap too as get multipacks work out about 10/20pence each, I feel so much more in control of them knowing I can have a few with a cuppa every other day, was so much better than having none at all as felt so guilty afterwards. Also my diet is carb based, lots of meat makes me feel unwell, feels so good to eat carbs and fat freely, to be able to have cheese on my pasta for lunch today was so lovely yum, gonna have brown rice and chilli tonight with some more cheese on top yummmmmmmm
