PJ,
I have been hoping that JUDDD would start rewarding you! I second what everyone else has said so far! You have been such a delight to learn from and I hope that your wisdom will keep popping in when you get a chance or see somewhere that it is needed!

I know nothing about anti-depressants, except that they wreak havoc on our metabolism. I will continue to for something to come along that will help you. Thanks for being such a wonderful JUDDD budd!

I ordered the book "The Diabetes Miracle" by Diane Kress.
I want to try her plan; "Step 1" lasts 8 weeks, so that could be over before Thanksgiving.
And/or I'll incorporate the alkaline plan that Yam-Yam says her sister is on
(we're still waiting for the food lists! That sister is a very busy lady! ).

I haven't really done JUDDD strictly for a few months, so I'm not blaming JUDDD in any way, and I'm not complaining that it doesn't work...but I guess that's why I'm bummed out with myself, because it does work for so many of you; so I must not have tried hard enough or stuck with it long enough. (Although, until mid-August, I'd been JUDDDing or IFing in some way since October of last year.) Still, I made a LOT of changes, skipped a LOT of meals, and a lot of my other meals were only 70-100 calories; so even if I only had 1/10th the success of Dawn or NoWeigh, I'd be getting SOMEwhere!!!

PS--I have been sleeping better, though!!! Instead of 4-5am, I started falling asleep before 2am a couple weeks ago.
And the last few nights, I've been in bed by 11:15 and fallen asleep around 12 or 12:30. Goal is to get in bed around 10:30 and be asleep by 11.

PJ, I love your sense of humor! You make me smile all of the time and even when I don't comment, I get a big ol kick out of your quips here and there.

One reason that I continue to come to this thread, is that I am one heck of a slow loser! Even when JUDDD works well for me, I feel like it should be much quicker for all of my effort. My main dilemma is that I have tried about everything out there and I feel like JUDDD & Paleo combined is working for me in much more areas than weight loss. I am starting to see the benefits and enjoying the way that I feel health wise.

Okay, I just read something encouraging from one of Diane Kress' websites:

She says: "For every point your A1C drops, you initially gain 5 pounds of weight."

When I started the alkaline water, my blood glucose went down dramatically, but I gained a few pounds.

So, hoping that this is true...sounds like it's a 2-steps-forward, 1-step-back situation...but after that, it looks like her "followers" are off & running!!!

I joined her site, hoping to get enough info to get started (or at least psyched up to start) before I get the book.

The plan for diabetics...from what I can see so far...has you eating frequently, including a snack 1 hour before bed and another if you wake up in the middle of the night...but from the "carb" list, only one serving with 5 net carbs in a 5-hour period (it doesn't look like veggies & dairy are on the carb list).

I've avoided the "eat frequently" plans for many years, and I honestly LOVED Fast5, and only eating once or twice a day; but the more I read about adrenal & liver issues, the more it seems that *some* people can benefit from eating this way. I hope I am one of them!

She has an earlier book called "The Metabolism Miracle", if diabetes is not a concern.

She also has a wordpress site with what I think are some very good articles.

Oh--another of her tips: exercise for 10-15 minutes between dinner & bedtime.
That seems like a good idea to burn off any excess glucose in the blood,
but not anything that will keep me awake all night.

One more thing and then I'm off to bed! Seriously!!!

Here, I found her program in a nutshell and you don't even have to buy the book!
(Click on her name in the byline for Parts 2 & 3.)

The metabolism miracle: The revolutionary diet that can help you stay slim forever | Mail Online

(Yes, some of it is re-hashed info you can find a hundred other places,
but she seems very knowledgeable and VERY supportive on her "miracle-ville" site.
I'm understanding metabolism & diabetes better than I did a year or two ago
and much of what she says makes a lot of sense to me...so far. )

Wonderful, I am off to read her site.

You know, Dr. Kruse and the Leptin Reset Rx states that we should exercise after dinner as well. It has something to do with resetting leptin.

Well, I did the before-bed snack (coconut waffle with cream cheese) and middle-of-the-night snack (1tbsp peanut butter),
and my BG was 15 points lower than usual this morning!

I had kind of figured this out for myself a while ago...needed a snack to help me fall asleep,
eating walnuts in the middle of the night gave me a better BG reading...but always worried about the calories!

Also, down 1lb from yesterday!

Weights last week: 276.6, 276.2, 275.4, 275.2, 276.0, 275.4; and 274.4 today.

Today is DS's 18th birthday, so I'm planning to have a little bit of cake later.
Will officially start the plan either Wednesday (don't want 9/11 as my anniversary )
or when I get the book, if I can't figure out the food lists before then.

PJ, so glad to know this might be working for you! When I read your original post, I was nodding in agreement at what you wrote. I don't have any issues that should keep my from losing. But losing I ain't. Despite the surgery, 2 lbs. since March sucks. I'm thrilled for the losers, yet can't help beating my head up against the wall wondering what am I doing that's so different from everyone else?

I've had lots of support and encouragement, so like you, I'm not asking for more! Maybe my body is still using food to heal, so it's not letting go of the fat yet - I have no idea.

I agree with the other ladies that you're input is always valued. Heck, I'm drinking dirt because of you!! Hope this new trend works for you and the pounds start falling off!

Carrying this over from the Daily Weigh In thread ...

I'm sad, angry, mad, and beyond frustrated. I'm gaining weight. I weigh more than I did when I came back to JUDDD in March. I do NOT know what to do anymore. When I finally began losing weight originally on JUDDD (2007) I just knew I'd found the answer. Had I gotten back with it after that vacation, I might have made my goal. After trying everything else in the interim (even a few more stabs at JUDDD), I came back here in March to give it my all. Finally started losing, hitting my May low at 208. Had the surgery and now am 11 lbs. over that low.

I'm a couple of weeks away from going on vacation. Do I buckle down and do my utmost best until then? Give up dieting completely since it sure ain't working anyway?

I expect no answers and honestly, need no suggestions. I don't intend that to sound mean - I think "mean" isn't how anyone here would describe me! I'm doing what I'm doing when I'd finally started losing before my surgery. It. Ain't. Working. But, I have nowhere else to go. WW doesn't work. Atkins doesn't work. IF nor Fast 5 works. Protein Power doesn't. EFGS didn't.

Aside from the occasionaly tough DD, JUDDD is the only thing that feels good to me. Maybe I should just resign myself to being fat and happy. ::dripping sarcasm::

Thanks, as always, for listening. It helps to know I can come vent here without anything but lots of hugs and encouragement.

Oh Nilla!!!

Please don't be mad...I know you said no suggestions, but I am really excited about this "Diabetes Miracle". I'm starting today. The author, Diane Kress, also has a book called "The Metabolism Miracle" for non-diabetics.

You eat at least every 5 hours to prevent your liver from dumping glucose. This also prevents cortisol from being released--and cortisol makes us stay fat. I imagine your cortisol levels could be a little wonky from the surgery and stressing out over your weight.

The "trick" is, you only eat 5g (net) carb in a 5-hour period.
Yes, it's a low-carb plan, but only for Step 1 (8 weeks), which is designed to "rest" the pancreas.
And IMO, it's a lot more flexible than any other low-carb plan I've seen.
There's a big list of veggies and many dairy products that don't "count" against your 5g.

I talked about it more up-thread but I'm giving a quick explanation in case you didn't read the last couple pages.

So sorry you're feeling this way...I hope you REALLY enjoy your vacation, no matter what you decide to do!!!

Hello! peeping quietly around the corner because I followed vanilla's tracks from the tracker thread , where she explained she would be here.

Just had a half-formed thought - not a suggestion, really, and zero need to respond. Hoping you will make some dr aware that you assumed you would continue losing after surgery but instead have actually gained, which is a surprise to you. I would think either surgeon or general practitioner would be interested to learn that, and might come up with an opinion of some value.

Hugs!

I'm joining the club, too! I keep gaining and losing the same 2-3 pounds since July 17th and I don't really know what to do.

If I don't have a plan, I will surely fail.

So, I guess my plan is the weigh tomorrow morning, start very strict Atkins induction (again) and not weigh again until the end of the month. Will reassess then, and go from there.

Vanilla, have you
a) written Dr J to ask if he can point you in a direction?
b) talked to your doctor (as above). Since JUDDD was working, it really seems like something is still seriously out of kilter. It may be important to figure this out for reasons beyond weight loss.

Can you give us an example of normal DD and UD eating (including what times you eat it?) Maybe seeing your pattern will trigger ideas.

If y'all only knew how much I all of you. Y'all are amazing. I appreciate the suggestions, I really do.

I edited this (before posting) several times as I wanted to address you all since you took the time to respond. It boils down to this: I need to just do my best until vacation, enjoy vacation, come back and buckle down and count the calories on both days or at least keep an eye on them as I abhor counting (like most of us here, right?). When I was losing, I kept my DD cals in check, and didn't count the UD. As you know, I wasn't eating enough on my UD once some of you encouraged to me to track. That may be the reason I'm not losing again now and with my body still healing, may need more than I'm giving it.

I'm pretty routined in my eating and (usually) list my DD menu in the threads unless I forget. And, sometimes when I post something it can change, especially on an UD, and I don't get back in here to change it.

I thought the Sirt gene had stayed kicked in after my surgery, but the last few DD have been very difficult, so apparently it went bye bye. So, maybe once that kicks in again, I'll be good to go.

I appreciate your comments and suggestions more than you'll ever know, even if I didn't address them individually. Since I had begun losing before my surgery, I'm really thinking once it's healed more, I'll begin losing again. I did come back down 3.4 lbs. today, so that's good.

Thanks, ladies, I each of you dearly. Since JUDDD is what I wanna do, looks like you're stuck with me. (And I'll try to quit whining so much!)

Vanilla latte, I can only imagine what you must have gone through not losing any weight all that time and following the diet. I am not losing any weight but it is my own fault for going over on UD's. It would be interesting to know if your problem is in fact as you said not eating enough on UD's.

In any case CONGRATULATIONS on your loss, that is a big one! Perhaps things are starting to turn around, I will keep my fingers crossed for you.
