New to Juddd

Hi!
I have been reading here all through the month of April and plan to join the MAY Newbie thread tomorrow.
This is my second down day. I love down days. 2 Atkins Shakes and 1 pack of instant cream of wheat. easy. no thinking or stressing.
My one upday was a complete disaster.
It was a binge day.
Binging is a new behavior to me since my husband died 6 years ago. I hate it but seem unable to control it.
Do you think I will be able to treat updays w/ respect as I move along?
I have vowed to give JUDDD 2 full weeks before jumping.
I would appreciate any comments or advice.
I will give more details on my history w/ food when I introduce myself tomorrow.
I guess I couldn't wait just one more day.................
Pat

Welcome to JUDDD and I am sorry about your husband. Yes, it is time to take stock and take care of yourself.
Well, I am one of those that went hog wild on UD's and I have still lost 20 pounds since Jan 8 and I am only one year younger than you. I am gradually getting the UD's under control but I LC'ed for MANY years and feeling free to eat anything is nice.

Hi Pat

Your dogs are adorable! I think many people go overboard on their first UD - don't worry though, JUDDD is very forgiving. If you haven't already done so, you may want to go to the website and calculate your UD and DD calories and try to stick as close to the UD numbers as possible. Good Luck!

Welcome - I am only two weeks ahead of you. I still can't control my up days, but I am getting there. Funny, but down days are easier.

I lost 3 pounds the first week - tomorrow is my weigh in for the second week - - keep your fingers crossed for me.

I like your meal plan for down days - easy peasy! I am getting to the point that I only have a hard boiled egg and a fiber bar on down days - - trying to FAST as much as possible.

And don't worry about one Up Up and Away Day (UUAD as we call them)

You will fend that they are easier in time, but so many of us find the DDs simpler. But I am hungry often, I can live with that. Hunger is not an emergency as one of our great JUDDD BUDDDs.

Welcome! So sorry abut your husband.

Many find they are bingey at the beginning, and control comes, along with healthier food choices.

I'm a recovering binger, and I've had just one binge while on JUDDD. I started at the end of March, and my binge was just last week. I attribute it to a trigger food rather than this WOE. Actually, I think JUDDD is helping my binging behaviors, but only time will tell.

Oh, and WELCOME!

Hi Pat and Welcome.

I'm pretty new here myself and will be on the May Newbie boards with you.

You know, being a widow is hard stuff...and you've made it...coped with it...two steps forward, one step back...and this is no different. You can do this. You are worth it...you are strong and smart. Because you "mess up" sometimes or learn as you go..it just means you're in the right company with all of us.

I started today great as a DD. Last week...I was so proud thinking...ok...I can plan and I'll be fine. Then today comes and I'm all prepared with my Light Progresso Soup and hubby wants to go out for burgers. I knew to get it OFF the bun and brought my own salad (weird, I know but I'm allergic to romaine and iceberg lettuce, go figure) and I know it was more than 500 calories...but tomorrow is another day. Days like this are going to happen.

I've been on some of the other boards and the people on this thread I wish I could meet them all. So you have support here for sure.

See you in Newbie land.

Hugs,
Nancy

Hi Pat, welcome and good luck with the plan!

I think most people here will empathise with the instinct to eat our emotions and nobody would judge you for binging, particularly after the kind of loss and grief that you've experienced. If my advice is any good to you, I would say concentrate on your DDs for the moment and let your UDs improve as you're ready. But don't over stress yourself - binging is a coping mechanism that's become a habit and that's going to take some time to undo.

So just be gentle and kind to yourself and do what you can.

In time, you'll be ready and you'll already have the DDs down. It'll come together.

Hi Pat, welcome! I lost my husband 8 years ago and I know it takes time. It's natural to look to food for comfort - I did. The difference with JUDD and other WOEs is that if it happens it doesn't really mess things up very much, you just start again the next day. Logging what you eat helps. I ate whatever rubbish I hadn't been "allowed" to eat at first, but now I find I'm not so interested in comfort food anymore, although occasionally I do go a bit mad!

This helped me so much, so I'm going to share it with you. A wonderful way to let go of the stuff you have inside you that food helps you avoid:

Hi, Bev!
Thanks for the video.
I have quite a few EFT sites bookmarked. I wanted to learn about it when I first ran across the information.
I think I will go back now and read at those sites that are bookmarked.
I am more open to change now.
Hugs

Welcome Pat. Sending and good thoughts that your binging behaviors are soon a memory. JUDDD has a way of healing so many things, and disordered eating behaviors can be one of them.
