You posted on my "sick day" thread about knowing how many calories in a 1/4 cup (or 2oz) of olive oil.

Please tell me and I pretty promise not to get mad. I've already drank one this morning and if I don't have any relief from this kidney stone, I'll be drinking another one tonight.

One site gave me 240/oz and another was 251/oz, so you're looking at around 500 calories for 2 oz.

I'm ducking so you don't throw your bottle of olive oil at me!

I asked so I can't be mad. That will be 1000 calories just drinking this stupid concoction.

It doesn't taste as bad as it sounds. The lemons were ice cold.
At this point, I'd drink gasoline if it got rid of the pain.

Let me know how it works for you. I usually just drink tons of water and wait it out. It would be nice to have a home remedy. I used to go to my nephrologist every time I had a stone and get Vicodin. Now I'm so used to them I don't even take Ibuprofen. Maybe my ureters and urethra are so scarred I just don't feel it as much.

So sorry you are going through this pain. Ive had many stones, some to big to pass and had to be removed. All I can say is drink tons of water and lemon juice to disolve the stone and help pass it. Child birth was not as painful as a kidney stone.
Good luck

I guess I'll try lemon juice mixed with my water the rest of the day and save the 500 dang calories by eliminating the olive oil.

I get them just about quarterly. I have hyperuricemia, which is what causes gout, but I have no gout symptoms. Basically my body produces too much uric acid, so I get the uric acid kidney stones. They are very pointy and painful, but so far I haven't needed any surgical intervention. I do notice they are much much worse if I allow myself to become dehydrated. They are also better if I'm not eating much red meat, so I try to limit it.

I can't take the main medication, Alopurinol, they prescribe for hyperuricemia. I nearly died when I took it a few years ago. There's now another medication, Uloric, but I'm honestly too afraid to try it after my experience with the first one, so I just grit my teeth and get through it.

My stones are caused by animal protein, cystine stones. Drinking tons of water helps to prevent them. If you are able to catch the stone, I would take it to the uerologist or your dr and have the stone analyzed to give you an idea of how to treat them. I always have motrin and percacet on hand.
Just keep drinking, (beer is helpful too)
