How I broke my 4 month stall

This was a reply to my REALLY STUCK thread but I thought I would repost it here so more of you can read it!

As you know I've been incredibly patient and have for four months resisted starting a thread to complain and ask for advice. So I finally posted. The same night (last night) I got so fed up that I blew a down day by eating about 850 cals and then treated myself to three glasses of white wine. I figured - to heck with it! I'm not losing anyway. I was 148.5 yesterday (and have been for months and months!).

I step on the scale this morning fully expecting to be punished for my transgressions and the scale read 146.5!!!!

How did I break my 4 month stall? I blew a down day and got tipsy!!! That doesn't even make sense!

It's probably just dehydration but still, I'm to see that number MOVE!!!!

Congratulations! I hope the rest of your journey is short and all downhill!

Sigh, and all this time I have been drinking red........

LOL. I've seen the scale move after a blown day too. I wonder if it just sends the metabolism into hyperdrive to deal with the unexpected calories? Even with UD/DD rotation, maybe the body gets a little used to it.

So glad you saw a new number though!

That is awesome. I was reading about carb refeeding and how it can kick start the engine, but you already were eating carbs before, right?

The guy who discussed this said the refeeds restore leptin levels which can get low on calorie restriction. Less leptin means a bunch of hormones come out that impact and lower metabolism and energy . The muscles even use less energy. Feeding with carbs restores the leptin.

I really have no idea if that applies in this case, but I think shaking things up can be effective with stalls.

Now... what's the name of that wine! Tons of inquiring minds just need to know...

There was a male poster who started a thread a while back about using alcohol as part of his weight loss strategy. He said he was always done after he drank and it stayed down. I thought it was just the extra calories - I am always down the next day and up the day after...so it doesn't work for me!!! But a larger DD can work for me

Actually Skinjob, what inquiring minds really want to know is, what happens over the next few UD/DD rotations?

Did you shock your body so much that it is now ready to let go of even more weight? My subconscious thinks that may be what happens. And, golly, I would be both utterly happy for you and fascinated to understand the physical mechanism you triggered.

Please keep us informed!

Hi guys! You crack me up. It was a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile. But I'm back up to 148.5 after my UD so it was fleeting. I knew it would be, which is why I didn't update my stats. Going to have a good clean DD today with lots of water and forge ahead. You guys gave me so much advice in my other thread but the one I should really give a go is adding some exercise. And I'm going back to avoiding the delicious white wine for a while!

Hey SJ, so glad to see you posting more. I am a red wine lover, but now and then a white wine is just what the doc ordered, lol. For some reason, I enjoy sipping it chilled when I'm preparing food in the kitchen. Especially when it's a sunny day. And it can't be sweet wine, so I also enjoy the Sauvingon blanc. Wine has never hurt my losses or maintenance either, so yayyy.
