DD Mini-Mart Snack Finds

I love the DD staples thread and the 'finds' thread as my life can be all about convenience at times. I'm starting an Eating-out Finds thread and a Mini-Mart Snack thread. I hope that is ok with everyone. I'd love options other than "SIDE SALAD" but don't have time to search for calorie values for everything at a drive through or popping into a gas station and walking out empty handed...and empty bellied.

Thanks in advance!

Jule

A lot of mini marts now have a deli section where you can get hard boiled eggs.

When travelling, I bring bullion cubes and purchase a coffee cup full of hot water at convenience stores.

WaWa sells small pickles that are 5 cals each and VERY yummy! These help to take the "edge" off if I'm running around and get hungry but just need a little something to hold me over until I get home! The cashiers always laughs when I bring my coffee and a pickle up to check out! Thinks the combo is just but I love it!!

Sunflower seeds (in the shell) are a good way to keep myself busy crunching & "eating" without too many calories. A good option for the movies or long drives, esp if my son & his friends are along eating popcorn, pretzels, potato chips, etc!

My other convenience store staple is beef jerky. My favorite is Jack Link Beef Steak (yummy, cheap, low sugar, rather moist & tender, for jerky). There are 1oz & 2oz pkgs.
If I drink a hot coffee along with it, it seems to keep me full longer than eating it with a cold drink. A 2oz serving only has 120 calories--but 23g protein! And usually I cannot chew my way through a whole 2oz package at once--especially the cracked pepper flavor...too hot!

My go-to meal is the Jack Link's Beef Jerky nuggets. They only have 70 calories per ounce and really seem to keep me full. I actually use these on my DD since a 3oz package only has 210 calories...it's one thing I don't have to feel guilty about eating the whole bag!

They charge you for hot water? When I go there I always rince my cup first with their hot water, empty it and then add the coffee ( stays hotter that way), I never get charge for doing this, but then I never have mentioned it either!

They don't charge for the water so much as for the cup...I don't think they'd like it if people just walked in and filled up cups & left!

Some places are nice and have let me take cups of water or ice. Others charge.

I don't even tell them it's water. I figure it costs them nearly as much to provide me the cup and water as it would for the cup and coffee or tea, so I pay that price. Never occurred to me not to.

I always bring in my own cup - you know one of those travel mugs!
